Do you name your Bikes?

Recommended Posts

I was always told “Take care of what you love, and they will take care of you” so I’ve always given a name to every bike I ride.

Just curious if I’m crazy or if others are just as crazy as me? Haha.

My first Bike was a 1989 Yamaha Radian 600 I named “belle” My grandpa and I built her in our spare time together.3FEE699B-245D-4133-A19D-4FD7EBE532E1.jpeg.8d8fae8dec6f7b2cce7f6bc402fb69fe.jpeg

then when I moved to California for school I bought a 1998 Yamaha FZR-600 I named “Amy”FA35DA8B-3A4D-4B71-9477-5F100D9632A0.jpeg.ab04ab1c4dbb862def223141c161b5f2.jpeg

After I graduated I moved up to a 2001 Suzuki GSXR-750 I called “Samantha”D53B3F6E-6735-4F12-817D-3046B8EF0D24.jpeg.efd5246ca4966d481bd8a7b471ee0bde.jpeg

And now I ride a 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 I call “Scarlet”C28E28F8-39A6-4496-A1CA-5130E34B90CF.jpeg.ad7fc82b9c469a629b960acda6aa2fe5.jpeg

My ‘15 FJ is named Cheri. “Cherry Cheri”.

My CB500X was Freddie.

My XT250 was Pacman (pacman decals all over it)

I never did name my two ‘79 KZ650SR’s. Not sure why.

No names.  The only time I talk to vehicles is when I curse at them.  🙂

Nope, always felt that the manufacturer had already given it a name.

When I was in high school I had an old Mercury Lynx I named Liz, and the name stuck when I left it with my brother. Liz was an important vehicle to me. First taste of freedom.

In college, I had an old silver Datsun 210 station wagon I called the Fish, for reasons I don't exactly recall except the color reminded me a fish scales. It had a Humboldt State University sticker from a prior owner. Some of my college friends called it "the HSU". Maybe it had a fishing related sticker as well.

We named my dad's Nissan Stanza Stan, because, well, Stanza.

My mom's car had a name I don't recall.

At this point it started to feel forced. Liz holds a special place in my heart, but I've not named a vehicle since college.

I feel this on a deeply personal level...

I give them nicknames. I used to name them, but I'm not very creative with names, so it kind of fizzled out.

Funny, but of all the bikes I've owned I've only named two. My 1984 Goldwing was called Black Betty and my 2019 Tracer GT I call Neo as in the "one". Seems appropriate.

Only once.  My Mom came up with ‘Reynolds’ for my CB900F, since she said it looked like a roll of aluminum foil.  It was so perfect that the name stuck throughout the time I owned the bike.

The real irony is that she was driving a silver Volvo 245 station wagon at the time, which literally did look just like a roll of Reynolds Wrap...  :)
