Memorable rides from the past?

Since the global health crisis has many of us in Limited Ride Mode right now, I thought it might be fun to dig out stories and photos of rides from the past...  doesn’t have to be FJ/Tracer related, just something that brings back fond memories.

I’ll start with one that’s kind of FJ related... if you go all the way back to the Gen 1 FJ1100.   :)   This was taken in northwest Arkansas, somewhere in the mid-1990s, on a road trip that I made with a couple of friends out of Houston.  I’ve always been very particular about who I’ll ride with, but Chris and Kelly have proven to be outstanding ride partners over the years:  Fast, smooth, consistent, and always in control...

That’s me on the far right, with my FJ over to the left.  Chris is in the helmet on the Concours, and the Bandit belonged to Kelly (who must have been taking the photo).   Good times.

2 years ago my brother, along with a childhood friend and myself got together for a week-long roadtrip from Washington through Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.

We all live apart now, so getting our schedules to sync up and be able to spend a week together riding was quite memorable.

We rode through SE Washington, NE Oregon, Rattlesnake Grade, Lolo Pass, Beartooth Pass, Cody/Bighorn Mountains, Tensleep Canyon, Teton Mountains, Stanley/Sawtooth Idaho.  Good Times. Awesome riding.

That’s awesome!

before the Virus me and my Mate Galen would take monthly trips to Neptune’s net, a popular biker spot off the Pacific Coast Highway, it’s a short 2 hour ride but just cruising with the ocean to your side is magic. Can’t wait to take the FJ.

My first Yamaha an XS250 in 1982. I was studying at Jordanhill College in Glasgow in the days when they gave you a grant to go to further education. The college was a short walk to a motorbike auction place nearby and when the second installment of the grant payment had cleared into my account it was time to go shopping. I would wander up to the Auction on a Thursday lunchtime to see what was in and if their was something I fancied having a bid on would hang on to do some work and  in the evening head back up to the auction. I had passed my bike test the year before when I had bought a Honda H100 two stroke at the auction for £150 and sold it 6 months later for £175 The picture below was the first big run I had on the immensely powerful XS250. (well after the H100 it felt powerful)

PS This big run was the week after I had bought the bike and I had gone 30 miles to visit a friend.

Thanks Scotty You have made me recall some happy memories.

Nice. I was in the Navy stationed at Point Mugu in 1988-92, so I used to ride past Neptune's Net all the time. I stopped a few times, but back then it was more of a surfer hangout.

I was a regular up at the Rock Store during that time. The Malibu mountains are still one of my all-time favorite riding areas.

So many great rides over the years.

In 1991 my new wife and I rode with a buddy from NAS Point Mugu (SoCal) up PCH to Laguna Seca for the USGP. Darrel was on a Harley FLHS and hauled most of our gear. Christa and I rode my VF700F Interceptor. That bike was a real piece of shit but it didn't matter, it was an incredible trip. We camped two nights at the track and partied our asses off. We watched the race from the Corkscrew, Wayne Rainey won.

I've had many other great trips. None like that one though.
