FJ -09 levers

Recommended Posts

hello, I am looking to change the stock brake/clutch on my 2016 FJ-09. I was looking at some CRG RC2 but they say it is not a guaranteed fit therefore i can not buy it for my FJ. Just for fun i had a look for some for a FZ-09 and there was a match. Anyone know if the lever for the FZ-09 would fit on the FJ?

thank you

From what I have seen, Yamaha levers usually fit many different bikes.

Yes on the brake side, but not on the clutch side as it requires too much effort to pull. Mine’s the 2015 so later clutch actions may be lighter.

I like the shorty levers on both. I have small hands and shorter fingers so they work great for me.

short vs. standard length on clutch (for me) has zero difference on one being more/less easier to pull. But the short lever allows 2-3 finger pull to the bar without crushing the remaining fingers.

I have always done the same, shorty on the brake and standard length on clutch for both my street and dirt bikes.

From what I've read, the clutch lever is NOT interchangeable with the FZ/XSR for those years due to the different left switch pod, and there is lever impingement on the pod before full travel.  I found some on eBay years ago with quick-adjust reach and lever length that are OK quality wise and have held up well.  Installing an XSR slipper clutch kit available as a package from Partshark.com will significantly ease the clutch pull effort.

I had the eBay brake lever when I used the OEM front master cylinder but went to a matching eBay R1 lever when I changed to a R1 Brembo radial master cylinder.  Hand guards are from a KTM adventurer.  Those are silicone rubber lever sleeves which hide the fact that the levers are adjustable in length.

Did they change on all the bikes at 2019, or was this comparison just made in 2018?  I'd assume the later; as a rule of thumb levers aren't something that changes often, but was just struck by the line of 2018's there :)

What I'll do is check the OEM part, then cross reference it across all models.

Here's a link to the OEM clutch lever on a 2020 tracer, on the bottom right you can see all the models that call for that lever.

Ooooh interesting!  I've never really played around with partzilla, given I'm not American, so shipping is obscenely expensive through them - had no idea they had that feature.  Even if it's not useful for buying stuff, that's definitely worth a bookmark.

That said, I see they did indeed change things; or at least the 2019+ Tracers use different levers than the -2018 models, as it's just newer Tracers and MT10's on that list.  Good to know for my lever shopping needs as I want to get some shorty levers.
