The problem is the rod is too short on that tool. I posted this in another thread, but for less than $10 you can get a 12 inch long drill bit that works much better.  an 1/8" bit is slightly smaller diameter than the rod that comes with the motion pro tool, but it gets pushed hard against the side wall when you tighten the screw. So it doesn't matter what size bit as long as it fits in the hole. This one is a 7/64.

These long bits are very accurate, you can put them in a drill and confirm they aren't bent.

Their rod is 4mm / .1575" (5/32") round, and even with shipping for 3-feet it'll be less than a good drill bit, AND I'll cut it down to reach and align with the front sprocket!😵

Good tip, got this for checking the alignment on my YZ 250 after swingarm and linkage bearings replacement. Used it on the FJ also. FJ seemed to check ok, but I'm going to get the long bit like you suggested.

Has anybody ever used the chain monkey  tru tension device for getting the correct tension.

It's too susceptible to adjustment variations

I use this how I now do it and while it can take a couple tries it works well.

Along with the MP alignment rod sprocket clamp tool, led  pencil flashlight I lay on the chain pointing down to the front sprocket, my Litetech clone chain adjusters, a good click type  torque wrench (I use 94 vs spec 108 '#), Dupont ceramic dry lube with a toothbrush and Kerosene, maintaining the chain is as hassle free as it gets.

Did  an oil and filter change too just the day before and happened to take these pics

I've never seen people spend so much time, effort, and money into chains as people on this forum.

It boggles the mind.

Yeah there are more than a few here who are no doubt OCD with every fabric of their being, maintaining a motorcycle safely and effectively isn't rocket science, nor is it remotely difficult.

Hey! I am a retired rocket scientist!

And we must be OCD, ADD and Dyslexic.

You only get one shot at a launch.

Ask Space -X and the Russians...

The moto of Convair, as I quoted above, was "Only right us Right!"

We used to work out to 4 decimal places, before laser measurement was a thing.

Repeatability is evidence of precision, and precision breeds longevity and success.

Make all the fun you want but after the braking system, the final drive on a motorcycle is the second most critical system to properly maintain. 😎

Uh-oh,  After all this precision talk and then this - "Only right us Right!"

Sorry 2&3 but I just couldn't help myself.  It sat up at the perfect hitting height and I just had to tonk it out of the park - I'm sure you've got a sense of humour - I hope? 🙏

P.S. I should cut you some slack I guess considering it's around 1:15AM where you are?!

Maybe pay the odd bit of attention to tires as well?  😉

There is never enough time or money to do it right the first time.
