northsouth
Has anyone mounted highway pegs to the front motor mounts? I am not wanting to install any crash bars. I was thinking about getting the T-Rex highway pegs, losing the tube clamps, enlarging one of the holes in the adjustable brackets depending on how far down I think would be most comfortable and mounting them with a steel spacer that would not allow contact with the frame. The only thing I am concerned about is that they could possibly rotate on the mount. Not sure if the torque value on the bolt is enough to hold it and not loosen from use. Don't really want to use a rotation stop that could damage the frame or drill anything for a set screw/pin. Any other ideas?
Supporting Member dazzler24 Posted August 18, 2020 Supporting Member Share Posted August 18, 2020 Have a look here for some ideas. This is what I have BTW. They're not pegs but do the job.

That picture is what got the wheels turning. I like the idea but need them to be a little lower.
Supporting Member dazzler24 Posted August 18, 2020 Supporting Member Share Posted August 18, 2020 OK. These pegs made/adapted by @angusmcoz sound something like what you are chasing... "The pegs I used are MFW from Germany that I had laying around but you could probably use just about any type. The 1 inch round is just a 1 inch bolt I cut to length and faced off on the lathe. Please forgive the drawing as I'm not an artist. Maintenance Electrician yes, artist NO! I don't have the radius of the curves, I just ground them till the looked right to me. The factory bolts are 50 mm in length and were replaced with 55 mm bolts. I first tried 60 mm but found them 2 to 3 mm too long."
northsouth
Absolutely! That's kind of what the T-Rex pegs are like. They have a longer drop but I see they may have to be shimmed out a little more on the right side to clear the radiator hose.
northsouth
Also looks like an excuse to buy a lathe and a welder.... 1
northsouth
Had to enlarge the holes in the spacers and the brackets to 7/16" and buy 90mm bolts but it is very comfortable and rock solid. 2

Supporting Member dazzler24 Posted August 25, 2020 Supporting Member Share Posted August 25, 2020 They look great! Well done. And just to be clear... they are the T-Rex pegs that you mentioned?

Thank you sir! Yes they are the T-Rex generic highway pegs. Doesn't matter which size clamps as they are not used. They come with 2 different bracket lengths- I used the shorter ones.
JP3RKS
I think the T-Rex is one of the cleanest installations and looks. I'm a fan!

If so, is there risk of rotation of the bracket at all?
cjh66
Got my bike secondhand in Oct lat year and it came with GIVI engine bars on it so I did this...... It took ages to find a location where they are both the same height and reach as the engine bars are not the same left and right.
