Looks like Nick Ienatsch traded his FJ

Looks like Nick Ienatsch traded his FJ for an FJR. The trade sounds a little generous for the other guy.

I get why he did it. If I had multiple bikes the FJ might be too compromised to fill a role. If I had a bigger budget I might be looking at a bike with more features. But the FJ reminds me of the original Nissan Xterra commercials - everything you need and nothing you don't.

Having ridden an FJR I can understand why someone who travels often on two wheels would want one.  It's a brilliant sport tourer.  But for me the weight is a deal breaker.  Even though it handled surprisingly well for it's size, my preference is for something that can get the job done while being a light as possible.

There is nothing like spending a day riding with friends in the grip of a shared obsession.

My thoughts exactly. Fantastic bike but quite heavy. However if I had the budget for multiple bikes, I would probably own one.

I am waiting for KTM to debut a touring version of the new 890 Duke R.

Add a pair of hard bags to those Brembos and a slightly bigger gas tank ---- and I'm IN!!

I could see myself trading my FJ-09 for a BMW R1250RT in the near future. I love the light weight of the FJ, but the reality is I prefer longer distance touring and the RT is probably more suitable. And if I feel the need to ride something lighter and sportier, I have a YZF750 that I'm restoring.

The FJR is tempting too; it's a lot cheaper than the BMW and they have a fantastic reliability reputation. But the riding position on the RT is more similar to the FJ-09, and some of the tech is appealing. I put almost 6000 miles on a loaner R1100RT back in 1997 and it was a phenomenal tourer but a bit vibey. I'd need to test ride a R1250RT before I buy one.

Much as I enjoy my FJ, I think it would just gather dust if I owned an R1250RT or FJR1300.
