Wow, thank you MaxinNiken for an incredibly informative and helpful post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What kind of aux lights did you mount?

Are you happy with them?

Are you making them moduate?

Happy riding,

Pablo Miller

Greetings Pablo, I had problems with mounting my auxiliary lights on my crash bars. I started an entire thread on just the auxiliary light  mounting and am trying to get a front bracket made to mount the lights closer to the front.

Maxim Niken & Bruno,

Do you remember the torque settings you used on the crash bar mounting bolts?

Regards, Greg

Thanks Maxim, my instructions for the M10 bolts quotes for the left side 46Nm & for the right side 67Nm as long as it is within Yamaha's specifications.

I've been unable to to find Yamaha's engine bolt torque settings on line.

Hi MaximNikenGT,

I don't want to be a pain however, I bought a 2019-2020 Niken GT Service manual on-line (could not find the Standard model service manual).

Page 5-13 of the manual, engine mounting bolts labelled 1 thru 4, 45Nm.

Son of a gun - my bad mate. I didn't realize my hardcopy only printed up to Chapter 4. I was missing chapters 5-9 in my hard copy binder. 😳

Thanks for pointing that out.

Not a problem, 15Nm seemed a tad low for engine mounting bolts.

I've just finished putting my crash bars on. Now waiting for OEM heated grips to arrive and getting that recall done.

Did you end up torqueing to the 45 Nm and 67 Nm? Any noticeable issues?

Hi MaximNikenGT,

I used Yamaha's torque specification of 45Nm, no issues to speak of. I did put a small jack under the sump to support the engine in case it moved (as recommended by SW-Motech). I loosened each bolt and then removed and installed one bolt at a time, so the engine was always supported by three bolts.

Just installed mine.

The existing engine bolts were torqued at 11nM.

Per recommendations on this topic, I torqued them to 45nM.  Woweezowee did that feel tight compared to how much pressure it took to remove the original engine bolts!

Now realize that was probably a huge mistake!  Duh! Why would they not be torqued to the original engine bolts?

So now, have I over-stressed the threads or the fittings or the bolts themselves?

Should I remove the bolts, put on some new blue locktite and retorque them to 11nM? Or......what??

Well informed answers gratefully welcomed!!!

Happy treads and trails,

Pablo Miller

I stuck with the original SW Motech recommendation of 11nM only because I didn't know about the 45nM spec until GregNiken pointed it out to me. So far so good at 11nM.

Saw this video for a Niken for sale in Japan with what looks to be a custom built crash guard unlike any other I've seen.

Looks like they also have a special front and rear view camera too.
