petshark
Can anyone confirm if this is normal? I tried to tighten it but it won’t go any further.
Premium Member DavidS Posted February 27, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted February 27, 2021 Not normal, it looks like the screw holding yours in is loose, or stripped.

I just went out to the garage and checked my '15 FJ and it is exactly the same. 🤷♀️ 1 ***2015 Candy Red FJ-09***

HGP61
+1 for me I have a small bit of free play as well thought it was normal, and a +1 for my mate's GT as well, his moves a wee bit too (that's why I thought mine was normal.
Premium Member micah2074 Posted February 27, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted February 27, 2021 It’s normal. Mine has been like that since day one. That rubber thing on the spring moves up and about once a year I take the springs off and move it down. 1 Let’s go Brandon

I saw Scotland and immediately caught myself scanning for the word wee and was actually disappointed to read "a small bit of free play". But... there was a wee in the end after all. 🥳 I don't know why but I just love that word. Thank you everyone, it looks like it's a none-issue. Premium Member DavidS Posted February 28, 2021 Premium Member Share Posted February 28, 2021 So is mine the only one that doesn't have this free play? Seems weird that some would have free play and others not.......

Put the bike on the center stand, extend kick stand, pull the end (that contacts the ground) toward you then push it away from you (toward the underside of the bike). movement is normal. New bike? Less movement probably. If your bike has been down or had any work done in that area then it might be a good idea to double check assembly if you don’t have movement. Supporting Member piotrek Posted February 28, 2021 Supporting Member Share Posted February 28, 2021 I too have the slop in the stand, and it's been there since new. This non-issue appears on various motorcycle forums. One has to think there must be an Engineering explanation to this. Photo below (stand extended and pushed inward) shows that there are a couple of very thin washers in there, so methinks the small amount of slop is by design (safety perhaps).
Hogie
As Piotrek says it is likely engineered in. Every one of my bikes (6) does exactly the same
johnmark101
That movement is designed in. Both my Kawasaki and my Yamaha have this free play. 1 There is nothing like spending a day riding with friends in the grip of a shared obsession. Garybinnyc
Just checked mine.. it has a bit of wiggle as well.. not sure if it's as much as the video but it def has some movement.. I'm not concerned as it doesn't seem excessive.
