  1. Also, the lower tank trim was tricky. The maint manual didn't help with this. There are metal L-tabs that hook the trim. You can see the tabs on the side of the tanks. The front of the trim is attached with a rubber grommet. The back with a 4mm bolt. Annnd, there's Velcro in the middle! 
     
    Unbolt the back, pop out the front, pop the upper middle 'velcro', then you have to slide the piece down to disengage the tab. I bent one side trying to figure it out, but was able to bend the tab back.

  2. What a pain! Finished synching the throttle bodies. Took at least 4 hours and this 'ain't my 1sr boondoggle' ;-)
      per the picture, you can definitely scratch the frame if you're not careful. The tank is meant to pivot on these two front mounts. I used a block of wood to brace the rear of the tank in order to remove the fuel and vent lines. 
      Once the lines are disconnected, lower the tank and remove the two front bolts (4mm hex). There's enough foam under the tank that it won't come crashing down on the frame. Just lift it straight out.

  3.   I'm removing the fuel tank to synch the throttle bodies. From what I can find in the service manual, there is no fuel shutoff valve and you have to pump the tank out 1st!?
      Any easier way of doing it? Plugging the fuel pump outlet?

  4.   Stephen, you might be out of luck. I think triples are a little buzzier than most. Triumph and Yamaha alike. Most of my Kawasaki inline 4s buzzed at some RPM as well. 
      Bar end weights and gel grips might help, but this will never be a buzz-free platform...
     
    Now, my old ST1300... That was the smoothest engine I've ever experienced!
  5. I think we got caught in the same storm system ;-) Maybe it's your boots Fred?  I got hammered today as well in one of the worst thunderstorms I've ever ridden through. It's been 5yrs since my last bike... I had forgotten that lovely sensation of cold water hitting your crotch unexpectedly  ???
    - I digress; my boots had great traction! And glad they did! 1st time I've had a bike w/ ABS and traction control; loved knowing they were there if needed.  I've always had the opposite problem and my rubber pegs get slippery in the rain ;-) I like the aggressive cut of the stock pegs. 
     
     
  6. Different video perspective! Has anyone experienced the wobbles without tank bags? From previous posts, I imagined more of a tank-slapper scenario. Just from my impression of the video, it almost looked like the tail-wagging-the-dog. Dirty air from the fairing hitting the top bag at high speed and light load on the front???
      Man, if I could only park a blue Vette next to my FJ in the garage...
  7. Just drove my new FJ home from Atlanta yesterday. I haven't tweaked the suspension yet, looks like everything is set to 'medium'. However, I'm highly impressed at how stable this lightweight bike is! Riding 1-handed on the interstate at 80mph, roll-ons  to 100mph in 6th gear were confidence inspiring. I can't believe how fast it accelerates w/out down shifting. I expected 'loosesness' and was very surprised at its high-speed performance. So far so good!
