I've been noticing that the gear display flashes and sometimes disappears when shifting into 5th gear and doesn't return to normal until shifted into another gear. It doesn't happen all the time and only in 5th gear. It doesn't drive any different so I'm thinking its an issue with display. Anyone have this issue or know why? Thanks.
Mine was doing this the last few months last year and still doing it early this year. I did an oil change yesterday and it has been perfect. Maybe some debris removed in an oil change? I have no other explanation, but mine was doing this 100% of the time and was out in 5th most of the time. I rode 60 or 70 miles yesterday and when I noticed no problems with 5th I spent as much time in 5th as possible to be sure.

Hi,It is a 2020 model and i got an amazing deal because it was the last one for this year, they were £17,199 in the summer,i got mine for £13,495.
I'm not quite sure how that translates to here, but my leftover 2017 was msrp of $20,999 I believe and got it for $12,999
I still have the FJ, but confess that after a half of a season, I am still smitten with the KTM!

Congrats on the new bike, what year model did you get? I did the same thing pulling the trigger on a leftover '17 back in June. I got a killer deal on it and am loving this thing. I was expecting it to not be as comfy as the FJ, but have been shocked at how good it felt putting in 300 mile days. That sportier seating position somehow works for me! The power is addictive and I love the sound!

One thing with adding to this is how tight the chain comes on this bike. It can't be good for it being that tight. What I find odd is at my local dealer you can check the 900's and they're tight as hell and then check the 700's and they are more normal.

I used to use that Dupont chain saver back when i had my Triumph Tiger 1050 because that bike had such a short chain guard and threw regular lube everywhere. I never thought it lubed all that well to me so i stopped using it. Seems like you had great luck with it though!
I ran my stock FZ1 chain up to a little over 30,000 miles using that lube and it could've went further, but I replaced for peace of mind.

I use Dupont Chain Saver, it cleans and lubes great. I got 22,000 miles out of my OEM chain and it was still going great, I just changed it for peace of mind while changing a rear tire.

Are the stock plugs NGK's, just not the Iridium's?
-
I got 22,000 on my OEM chain and it would've kept going fine, but I changed it for peace of mind since I'd seen others on here claiming theirs went prematurely.

I had a 2006 Speed Triple, it was quite a fun bike, but let it go after having the FJ for a while. I had the playfulness and comfort both wrapped into one.
-
My stock Dunlop rear tire was gone at 4,000 miles. I wore out the sides in just a few days in the TN/NC area. Living in Indiana that was the first time I've ever wore out the sides first.

Wow, I just got home from that area. I spent a week in Tellico Plains and rode through Coker Creek quite a few times.

Nice write up, thanks. I hope that I never need this. I find the situation interesting, I've never bottomed a bike until this one, but I got lucky. Mine was an unusual situation, I hit a huge pothole in a set of railroad tracks that I wasn't able to see soon enough to avoid. I got lucky. This bike is tall enough it really surprises me there's this many problems.

I would be curious if pm got it started and found out what the problem was?

Thanks for the kind comments.

I've only recently become forum friends with rockinsv but we live within a half hour or so near each other. I sure hope we get to ride together and soon. I am emotionally drained after reading this. Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
I'm looking forward to that ride Ray.

My 2015 got new plugs, air filter, harness for battery tender along with a 2 Wheel Dynoworks reflash and Yoshimura R-77 pipe. Whew, that was a big boost for Red Rowdy!

Yep, I used the suggested part on my 2015 and it went in just fine.

Just ordered the new clutch cable assembly to be fitted at the bike's first 1000km service in a week or two's time - cost is AUD $37.96. Better safe than sorry!
Great idea, better safe than sorry. I was sure glad I was in my garage fiddling with it when it snapped. That could be really dangerous if it let go at the wrong time. Mine gave me a hint it had problems, but I now wish I'd just changed it sooner. I didn't realize I'd gotten the old cable initially as a replacement, but this forum helped me to figure it out and that thing is history.

Does anyone know how to be sure I'm getting the updated cable? I ordered a spare when I read about the failures, now when I go out and look at my spare, it's identical to the original in the bike. It seems like it'd be a good idea to use the updated version while taking the time to replace it.
-
Unfortunately mine snapped afternoon at 17,312 miles. Been lubing it and carried a spare because of reading the issue on here. Yesterday I noticed having problems getting it into neutral and made a clutch adjustment. Then need another clutch adjustment today and felt a click that was very suspicious in a shift so headed home and it snapped while fiddling with it. I have a 2015 model.

My son is who you seen riding with me, his first bike was an SV. He still comments that he misses that bike.
My move from the SV was to the FZ1, and there were several that went that direction too. All great bikes!

No, I've never really posted enough on any forum to get to really know people, but I know the screen names. My name on the SV forum was the same, Rockin SV. I never made any of the rallies, but coincidentally ended up down there when one was going on. I had already moved on to my FZ1 at that point.

Well I was premature, today it was back to the usual going out in 5th. I guess I should've waited to post. Maybe I'll need to open it up and clean the sensor.
