I have the Cal Sci shorty as low as it will go.

Angels Camp, California.  In the Sierra foothills, Gold Country.  Absolutely magnificent place to ride motorcycles.

Funny thing about lack of evap can making it not legal in Cali for those of us that have to get inspections at the DMV: it's more important to have the Cali emissions sticker than any of the actual equipment

Some of the stuff (like the air injection and evap canister system) would be pretty difficult to show them there at the DMV, since you'd have to remove most of the bodywork and the seats and gas tank to expose the stuff. 
Where do you live in California where you have to get inspections on motorcycles?  Heck, where I live out in the boonies, we don't even do smog inspections on our cars and trucks.

The reseller has advised me that NO SPECIAL TOOLS are required??? ... But as a precaution, I've ordered a fork oil level tool and a spring compressor.

Depends on your definition of "special tools" I guess. You'll also need a 14mm allen wrench to remove the front axle.  Most people don't have one, since most allen sets only go up to 10mm.
 
Some folks have gotten by with taking a bolt with a 14mm head and screwing a 14mm nut all the way up to the head in a jam nut config and using that.  
 
It's preferable to have the right tool though.  I bought a set of 3 (12mm, 14mm and 17mm) for less than ten bucks from Amazon.

Kinda hard to blame HD for an aftermarket exhaust failure.

I hard wired my gps into the secondary aux fuse.

I ran mine back to the battery with its own fuse as supplied by Garmin.  I wanted to save the Garmin harness' original length for when I install it on another bike in the future.  This is the third bike it has been on.

It is my understanding that Traxxion supplies CNC machined caps with compression adjuster on the top of one leg and rebound adjuster on the top of the other leg.

Forks on their way to Traxxion Dynamics. Shock is still in there, but I have a Penske on order from Traxxion. When it arrives, the stocker will go in the trash bin where it belongs.

Well written.  All for naught though, as if Yamaha would so much as acknowledge reading it they would open themselves for lawsuits and recalls.  I predict they will continue to quietly ignore the issue, and I will order the new oil pan and gasket and change it myself.

Your bike looks positively *evil*!! Michael, the handguards and screen really complement each other. And I, too, will change out the battery for a Lithium unit, but I'll probably give it 2 years before doing so. Any time you can shave 8-12 lbs. off a bike with no bad side effects, you should do so...

Thank you.  I like the way the bike looks too.  The screen is perfect for me, I hate looking through screens and I hate the buffeting I always get from them.  This shorty looks good and does what I need from a screen... nothing. ;-)

For me the preference for the KTM handguards is not just about the looks, but I like that they are several inches narrower than the stockers and provide much better wind protection and no interference with windscreens.  They are the same ones that came on my KTM 690 Enduro originally, although on that bike I replaced them with Cycra ProBends for better crash protection.  More likely to dump that bike than this one.

Actually, I did a lot. At 525 miles, changed oil & filter, installed Shorai LiFe battery, OEM heated grips, KTM handguards (I hated the Darth Vader stockers), California Scientific "shorty" dark tinted screen.

I don't recognize any of those highway numbers, and the only Cambria I know is over on the coast near San Luis Obispo. You sure about being in "my area"? I live in Angels Camp in the Sierra foothills where Highways 49 and 4 cross... south of Lake Tahoe and north of Yosemite.
