  1. Can you share some details on the drain plug mod - how, what, etc? It looks interesting. TIA
Sure- do some searching and you'll find a lot about the oil pans on the early FJ-09. The "fin" is a low-point and has punctured more than a few oil pans. Using an angle grinder, you can buzz that fin off and replace the drain plug with a flush one, preventing punctures.
In 2016, Yamaha redesigned the oil pan on mid year FJ-09's to prevent further issues.
Question?  Why is this modification being done?  Do you go off road?  Are you jumping the bike?  I have the Gen 1 oil pan, but it seems that unless I take it off road or run over something large in the road this is a non-issue.  Please advise.
  2. Took the FJ in for the first service, install of the factory side bags and a bath. Wish I could download the picture, but yesterday after only 3 hours of being parked outside of work I had 2 robins building a phucking nest over the key hole just below the dash, dirt, mud and phucking sticks all over the dam thing. I swear if I worked outside of the city limits I would have pulled my piece and smoked me a couple little birdies.
  3. ...Those things that people talk about, whining noise, howling air intake, clanky transmission, sure, but I love it all. I like to hear my bike doing its thing and this bike does it thing very well.
I too love this bike for all the rough edges, and a mischievous temperament. Keeps me alert  8-| . Congrats! Dump the oil will ya.
and replace it with what?  Also, mischievous temperament, great word choices because it is definitely that.
  4. Rode the shit out of it, picked it up at noon, got home about 8 pm. Various errands ran and 125 miles of break in done. I have to say that I am in love with this bike. I have noticed some things that everyone on here has talked about, but really it is a blast, has character and is very quick and fun to ride. Those things that people talk about, whining noise, howling air intake, clanky transmission, sure, but I love it all. I like to hear my bike doing its thing and this bike does it thing very well.
