  1. Now that my big ugly bike is performing just as I like it (with the Givi screen, Givi extension and puppy grips) I tend not to come round here so often any more.
If I get the chance I will do some measuring and post the results with pictures.
  2. @redfjniner Thanks. For me it comes down to noise and can't ruin the look of the bike. That's a pretty low "perfect" bar :). I like your DIY model.
BTW. I am 5'10' with 31" inseam. For me. The stock windscreen's problem seems to be turbulent air around the vertical edges. I simply think the vertical edge shape needs to be different. I'm going to start working on options.
I noticed a huge difference in noise with the Givi. I no longer get wind noise, I now get gearbox whine and engine noise :) Good earplugs are a must, you will be much less tired after a ride with plugs in.

  3. All my troubles have been cured, my hurts healed, my buffities calmed.

I expected the screen to be good; it is excellent. I now sit in a bubble of calm. The screen without the extension was almost tall enough for my big frame, the extension made it perfect. Visor open to 90mph, no issues.

Turns out the bike is quite noisy now that I can hear it. Deliberately didn't wear plugs, was interesting to hear all the mechanicals.

Anyway, more to come, for now share my happiness with me :)
  4. From the front:

How's the screen on highway... Would be great if u sitting on it with helmet on and provide I side photo...

No idea! It was pouring down last night and 50mph winds today ie Scottish summertime! Once I get a better spell of weather I will take it out for a run and get some snaps.  I might shift all this to a post of its own also, saves one massive thread on all things windscreen.

  5. Feckin ipad. Can someone please stick all this together:

First impressions, very rigid, beautifully made - typical Givi quality.

Took about 15 minutes or so to fit.  The original screen would almost flex back on itself if pushed, this one tends to move the shoddy adjustable mounting bracket. Time will tell how it performs on the road!
  6. Function over fashion for me, I don't really care what it looks like as long as it works.
Sorry, but I'm not willing to make an amazing looking bike ugly to accommodate this design flaw. There are solutions out there that don't look like I velcroed a flat piece of plexiglass onto my bike. To each their own.
Well my friends, you will be able to tell me tonight if it looks ugly or not, parcel has been delivered! It will be a few days before a road test if the forecast is anything to go by!
  7. Tinted shorty looks good, I am trying to like the larger touring screen it just doesn't look right on the FJ.
Agreed... can't do the barn door look. I need something that looks like it was made for the bike, not a slab with the right holes drilled in it.
Function over fashion for me, I don't really care what it looks like as long as it works.
  8. To make my findings a little more objective (even more so than Bubba's balls), I have ordered a cheap anemometer to measure wind speed.
The screen has made it to the UK already, so will be with me by Monday. The anemometer by Tuesday. The results... August? :)
  9. I think it would support it fine Dave, ie it wouldn't break. I have a feeling part of the buffeting problem is from the flex in the screen, so this may remain if you simply extend the screen.
Who knows! My screen should arrive on Friday, I will try lots of combos to find out the differences that are made.
  10. Thanks Wessie, I will bear that in mind. Hopefully I will end up having several hundreds of pounds of screen under your bed before I can trade up for a GS :)
Jordo27, legend is a little much. Maybe just totally awesome, brilliant at a push...
  11. I went for the Givi for ease of transaction as it will be coming from the same place as the screen. From experience so far it's a bit trial and error.
However, if I find myself in a nice calm cocoon then it will probably be overkill for yourself, as I stand a good 13" taller!
  12. I want that one! Another good day on the bike yesterday hampered by the noise and the wind blast. Happy to be the Givi-pig, not sure if it is available on that site that Wessie posted? My Italian is sketchy...
