  1. Alright alright I've been riding for several months with the system installed. Still sounds great, I have (knock on wood) yet to have any problems with anything. Flashing the ECU took away any problems I initially had with hard starting, it fires right up every single time- hot or cold.

Power delivery feels more linear, there were some rough spots in the power curve with the stock exhaust that the pipe and flashing seemed to have cured (not sure if this is because of the flash or not). I have not had the bike wide open in 6th gear yet, but I did notice nearing the top end of 4th the bike seems to feel like it's starting to struggle. Not sure if this is just due to my hilly terrain I frequent, I have only ever powered up the hills and never down. Overall, I give the system a solid 9/10.
  2. I've got about 10,400 miles on mine and the only major problem I've had was the clutch cable breaking at about 7k miles. Replaced it with a new one and I've been riding ever since. Tires had to be replaced at about 5000 miles. Otherwise it gets ridden daily, so long as the ground isn't wet.
I absolutely love this bike, it's the best motorcycle I have ever owned or ridden. The power is just phenomenal and it handles very well. Things I will be tweaking in the future is getting the ECU reflashed in the next couple of months as well as working on getting the suspension setup for me. I mostly commute on it but it was painfully obvious how sensitive the throttle is and how soft the suspension is when entering and exiting corners.

Just shy of 30K now. Still using the same OEM replacement clutch cable I installed at 7K, knock on wood no issues to speak of.
  3. For the record, up until this point, I have been using the factory flash.
    xpress:
I am slightly confused by your phrase "I have been using the factory flash".  Does this mean Yamaha has a re-flash of their stock ECM?  My dealer hasn't mentioned squat to me about one and when I called another dealer ... they had never heard of one.

So, needless to say, I am a bit perplexed.  I have a 2015 leftover.

Thanks for any light you can shine on this.

It's the same flash that the factory installed onto the ECU when they first programmed the ECU.... Meaning, it's how the bike came from the factory. I have not had the ECU reflashed.
  4. There is still gobs of torque down low and at WOT the pull is much harder than before.
Do you feel that there was any sacrifice of mid-range power to get the increased top end boost? Most of my riding is above 4500rpm but I rarely ride above 9k. I don’t want to lose any mid-range if I finally decide to get an exhaust.
In the 2 months I've been riding the system, I can firmly say that if there was any loss in performance at any point in the RPM range, my precision calibrated ass-dyno could not note the difference.

Speaking of ass, a wild hair up it tonight prompted me to yank out the ecu for a reflash. It'll be off to FTECU tomorrow morning for flashing. This is just to smooth out the throttle map which did not change at all with the new exhaust. I figured it's outside of both the factory 1 year warranty and the extended 2 year warranty so why not...
  5. It is a heavenly sound, the 850 triple singing at full gallop without a cork in its throat. Even with the DB killer in place though it still has a nasty growl that videos just can show off accurately. Nearly 2 months in to having mine and I have zero complaints, other than the front tire has dulled the finish on the center header after riding in the rain once. I can't wait to get my ECU flashed to let all of the horses out of the stable, I'm curious to see what kind of gains a system like this will give.

For a comparison, me and my buddy on his Daytona 650R went head to head in a straight line. He normally outpulled me every time with the stock FJ exhaust in place, but now I'm hot on his heels with the front end of the FJ fighting to get skyward- TCS light blinking the whole time. A quickshifter it what I imagine it'll take to stay with the Daytona as he jumps slightly when shifting. I bet if we swapped bikes his smaller presence may entertain a more even prance on the two bikes, if not the FJ slightly ahead (I'm twice his size lol8.gif ).

As for rideability, I have seen ZERO drawbacks to the system in place on my stock, non flashed FJ-09. There is still gobs of torque down low and at WOT the pull is much harder than before.
  6. Received mine this morning as a gift, much to my surprise. Install was probably a 5/10 regarding difficulty but there wasn't anything that was really difficult, just awkward in some places. Took it for a 15-20 min spin to heat cycle everything, what a big difference. Power I couldn't tell a difference, felt like the same ridiculously awesome bike as before- the sound quality was obviously improved vastly. I have not flashed the ECU for it so there is popping on deceleration from being on the lean side. I did reinstall the O2 sensor for now.

I'll be sending the ECU off to FlashTune pretty soon here, just have to work my schedule around taking the 3/4ton Van to work for a number of days as the bike is my commuter.

  7. BOOM!!!!!!

My bike had issues starting when warm etc. It was really weird but when my bike sat outside the other day uncovered when I was in school and it was 90 ish degrees outside it took me three times and some throttle to get it to stay idling. Going to remove the airbox again and see what it looks like in there. Maybe there is still some residual.
My bike is difficult to start when it sits in the hot sun for many hours, the oil levels are filled to exactly the top line on the sight glass so I know it is not overfilled, and I never use a full 3 quarts of oil. I had discussed this with the dealer a few times and after they contacted Yamaha about it, their proclamation was that this was normal. I forget the exact explanation but the heat was causing something to happen with the fuel line, probably forcing the fuel back out of the line into the tank.

My air filter at 25,000km. There was some oil in the airbox, but intake ports and butterflies looked clean. Nothing unexpected.

I just did my filter at 25K miles (Yamaha GYTR filter) and mine didn't look as bad as this. There was a super light film of oil inside of the airbox on the throttle body side, and the original filter was a few shades darker. A light coating of oil inside of the airbox is normal over time.
  8. Bought this rear cylinder reservoir cap off Amazon, they have a bunch of different colors. The only downside is they all say FZ-09 but the small bracket that keeps the cap from loosening covers it up nicely.

I also bought this front cylinder reservoir cap too:

It has yet to arrive, shipping from China of course takes forever.

  9. Shipping was fair. Also very quick. I chose the SS can in black with the carbon cap over the carbon can because of price and perceived greater durability. It’s been rainy lately and I don’t think anybody wants to see how filthy my scooter is. sad.png Their website photos show each style on the bike.
I was able to contact them and get a quote for the 300mm SS system with carbon end cap. I think $417 to my door in SoCal is too good a price to pass up, even if the system only holds up for a few years.

Just blew my FJ cash on winter gear today, the exhaust will have to wait a bit.. lol8.gif
  10. I have had one for about a month now. I got it directly from Black Widow. It’s the low mount with a 300 mm SS can with a carbon tip. It seems to be of high quality and went on easily. When I had enquired as to whether the high mount version would interfere with the
factory bags they said they weren’t sure, but that they would send both versions for the same price. It arrived in less than a week.
It is louder of course, but I like it. I did not take them up on their offer of the high mount after more closely studying pics on their website.
I will be getting the eco reflashed shortly to complete the package. I think it ended up around $470.00 total.

Did they bend you over on shipping? Doesn't sound like they did...
Do you have a picture of the exhaust? I'm going back and forth between the SS, black, and carbon- all with carbon tip.

  12. Cleaned it up and hit the mountains yesterday. I haven't taken it out on such a long ride, let alone into unfamiliar territory, in quite a while so it was painfully obvious the soft suspension and sensitive throttle. I'm so used to the roads I commute on that I hardly notice it, but when you gotta vary your throttle and braking from all of the twisties you really notice it.

Will try to firm the suspension up first. Coming up on 1 year since I bought it so the extended warranty is about to take place, may send the ECU in for a flash at that point.
