  1. I'm also having the same problem with my RPHA 70 visor. Still usable but sooner than later I have to replace it because of chips and scratches in the visor itself and also the Pinlock.

  2. Either two would give you more than enough cranking power so I rather choose the NLP 9 and save some bucks.

For those who love lithium batteries I advice you to pick one that has over-charge and over-current protection. My old Kawasaki 650R almost catches fire because a combination of lithium battery and a bad regulator-rectifier.

    Cheers!

  3. Got new exhaust for my Tracer!

A friend of mine is selling his 900 GT and we had a deal on his Arrow exhaust, including the slip-on and the exhaust headers.

I really like the new exhaust notes, with much more deeper and louder sound while idling, a nice and loud scream in high revs and some pops when you chop off the throttle, even with the catalytic converter and the db-killer installed.

    Cheers!

Just a reminder, NEVER rely in the the service manuals recommended interval for your air filter, always use real world conditions.  I believe Yamaha recommends every 24,000 miles, I clean the filters on both bikes about every 5,000 miles and they are always dirty and full of bugs.

Indeed. Giving the condition of the air filter I'll shorten the service. In my previous bikes and cars I was perfectly fine by replacing the air filter every 2 years or 20,000 Km (6,000 miles)

Is that an OEM or garbage K&N filter?

It's the OEM factory one, I've replaced with a Hiflofiltro.  This brand worked very well for me in my old Ninja 650R and it's price is a third of the Yamaha OEM filter.

I'm thinking about going OEM oil and filter the next time but not sure if they are worth the money.

And as I mentioned before as long as you're in there playing with the throttle bodies and what not

Check D'valve lash, twenty four thousand miles on them is also too much

At least for the first check and the second

I would have liked to do the valve clearance check but I was unable to get the valve cover gasket on time.

I've bought the gasket alongside feeler gauges and I'm planning to get or build myself the throttle body sync tool.

    Than you all!!

When is the last time you inspected the spark plugs it sounds electrical?

I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I never got my spark plugs inspected...

Bought the bike with 21000 Km and allegedly the (second hand) dealership did the 20000 Km service, which includes spark plugs change. Bought air filter and spark plugs to change them at the 30000 Km service but I was to lazy and decided to pospone it until the next service.

Blame myself for trusting the dealer and my laziness... What do you bet that I'll find the original spark plugs installed in my Tracer?

Tainted fuel also does strange things as well. ;)

Definitely is worth to check, thanks!

  6. Hey folks!

Took my 2018 GT for commuting last saturday and notice some engine stuttering while accelerating when merging into the highway, even feel the engine completely dead for half a second.

I pulled over to the side of the road and powered off the bike to take a minute to evaluate my options, so I decided to start the engine and I was able to do my commuting with some engine stuttering under acceleration but the bike was driveable, I was even able to use the QS and the cruise control.

No CEL light, and after coming home I did connect my old ELM327 OBD2 adapter and reported me no pending error codes.

Bike has gas, oil at the proper level, battery is OK and charging properly. This Sunday I'll take some time to find out the problem checking the usual suspects (Air filter, sparks plugs, coils, fuel and TPS)

    Any advice will be appreciated!

  7. After wearing out my set of Michelin Road 5 after 7500 Km (4600 miles), I have ordered a pair of Bridgestone T32.

They were 325 € including taxes and labour. The Road 6 were 350 €

I'm eager to check how they work. I liked so much the Michelin at the beggining but now that they are worn out near the indicator I have the feeling that they are made of wood! specially when leaning.

Also I have quite uneven wear, more in the left side (as I made left turns more aggressively), and also completely lost the round profile in the rear towards a more V-shaped profile except at the very end of the tire, which gives me a really disgusting feeling when I want to lean the Tracer so much.

  8. Just replaced my factory chain and sprockets with 30.000 Km (~18.000 mi.)

Didn't realized until today how much deteriorated my chain was, almost half of the links were seized. It took me a long time because I wanted to clean up the swingarm and all the greasy gunk in the areas around the chain and the front sprocket.

It was my first time doing this kind of job and I'm really pleased, just get some quality tools and don't rush.

BTW: I also bought a set of Yamaha comfort seats for my GT, from a clearance sale of a Yamaha dealership in other town, for half their price! I hope they arrive tomorrow

Thanks for sharing this information. I have a couple of questions.

When the indicator is installed in the fender, what is the connection to the fender like? I guess it must be a hard connection for the prying force to break the fender and not the indicator itself. Is there some sort of rubber grommet there? If not then that is not a good design. The stock pumpkins are designed to flex and while they would get damaged in contact with the ground, the fairing would likely be spared.

The connection to the fender is soft rubber and has a grommet inside to prevent the indicator to slide to the outside, and the body of the indicator is hard plastic.

But if I try to flex them feels very very rigid compared to the original ones, them barely flexes and when you try it more hard you feel them wanting to snap

What I think that may have happened is that te body of the indicator is wider than the hole in the fender so it snapped to the inside and push it very hard against the fender and cracked.

  10. Notice for whom have changed the turn signals for the OE Yamaha LED from modern MT-07's and so on.

Those blinkers are hard plastic and even though my Tracer has Givi crash bars the blinkers protrude about an inch.

This morning I have had my first tip-over and the right turn signal instead of bending or broking it snapped inside, cracking the external side of the fairing and broking several points where the two piece plastic sandwich fairing fits together.

Luckily It seems that I was able to fix it with with epoxi resin and the crack is barely noticeable even if you get closer to the bike, but I'm afraid that maybe the next time I don't be so lucky.

  11. Just replaced my stock brake pads by an EBC HH sintered, front and rear.

I was very surprised about how many material was left after 30.000 Km, but decided to change them anyways as pads are fairly cheap (cost me about 80 € inc. taxes for the full set) and I've read a lot about how much better the braking feels with this upgrade.

I'm looking forward to do more DIYs, I've ordered chain, sprockets and some tooling.

  12. Hello guys! I'm Miguel, from Valencia, Spain.

Just bought my '18 Tracer 900 GT in February with 21.000 Km on the clock. I've done a few trips since then and it now has 29.000 Km on it.

I'm super excited about the bike and I did some mods like Givi engine guards and MT07 OEM LED turn signals. I have on the way Wilbers shock absorber and K-Tech springs because I feel the stock suspension is so soft for me.

    Here you have a pic:

    Cheers!
