Hi,
TL;DR: QS might have been disabled because of CEL, I didn't notice it if it was the case and still used the QS to shift 2-5. Bike worked like always am I in trouble?
Today I lubed the chains like any other time. Put the bike on the main stand put it in first gear, pull the clutch, start the bike, slowly release the clutch and lube the chain. I have done this multiple times with no issues.
After I was done I killed the engine and checked the chain. I wasn't entirely happy with the results, so I repeated the precious steps. From the peripheral vision I saw the traction control light blink but it was done as soon as I looked at it, so I thought, because of the main stand the ECU might thought, that the bike is slipping. Anyways I lubed the chains killed the engine and I noticed the CEL was on. I tried to access the menu, but for my surprise it didn't work. Later I found on this forum, that it is normal behavior with newer bikes. In the same topic the guy said, that he removed the battery and after putting it back the CEL was on. I have kinda the same situation. Although I drove like 200km since I put back the battery after the winter.
Nevertheless someone suggested, that it might be some low voltage stuff and the CEL should clear itself after riding. So that is what I did. I rode like 8-10km throughout the city I'm located, but the CEL was not clearing at one point I also used the QS for shifting through 2-5. After I came home I tried to research some more and I stumbled upon a video showing the engine light and the missing QS indicator. I have to say that I have never noticed the QS indicator until now btw. I went out to the bike and checked (turning the key but not starting the bike) and QS is missing on the display.
Now the question how much did I f**k up my bike using the QS with potentially having the QS off? I don't know however if during the ride QS was on or off but I didn't notice anything weird like loud noise or locking the rear wheel or anything like that. It worked like any other time I used it.
Now I also ordered an OBD reader and adapter cable to check the CEL. As this will be my first time doing this, can every OBD Scanner show the actual fault codes or am I going to be confronted with random bits which I somehow should convert to readable stuff? I mean I have seen can traffic but does the Yamaha ECU prints the fault codes as strings or is it just their binary format which only their diagnostic tool can interpret?
Thanks for your answers in advance!
