  1. The Beak showed up today.... one of the more frivolous motorcycle purchases I've ever made,  but it just seemed so fitting to this build.  It's a nice piece,  so well done it looks 100% OE when fitted.
Higdonian cage also supposed to be showing up today!

  2. Installed an Evotech Performance http://www.evotech-performance.com/mt-09-tracer-abs/yamaha-mt-09-tracer-abs-radiator-guard-2015-onwards  radiator guard. It is a very nice, well made product and what I like is that it covers the side tanks as well as the core. It is a bit time consuming to install in that one must remove the side fairings to install. It attaches to the sides of the radiator side tanks. The website has an installation link that shows it pretty well. I purchased it from http://www.motostarz.ca/

  3. Be careful when installing the Cal Science windscreen. You can definitely over tighten it even with those aluminum bushings. Also make sure they send you all the hardware, screws, bushings, clear plastic washer type things that the black caps snap on.
They didn't send me all the right hardware the first time and the wind screen blew off - yes just as I was accelerating at about 45 mph & then was shortly run over by the back wheels of a semi-truck.

Cal Science never admitted they screwed up on the hardware but when they send me the 2nd screen (which I had to pay 1/2 price for) it was obvious pieces had been left out.

I've installed the 2nd one with all the hardware and have put plenty of miles (and bugs & speed) on it and it works great. Just don't think you don't have to be careful installing it. Definitely be easy on how hard you tighten the screws though, it will stay on.
I ordered a large Cali Sci and it arrived without any attachment hardware. I had to wait for a while to receive the hardware kit. A couple of e-mails to Cali Sci got the kit coming. Put about 200km behind it so far and am happy with the coverage. It has stayed solid at >160kph.
  4. Melted dash. 28-30 Celsius, probably happened at work is my guess. Outside for 8 hour shift. Ermax Touring clear screen:

    >:D :'(

Ahh.  That must have been caused by lensing of sunlight through the windshield.  It may be that the Ermax's shape and the refraction rate of the material was enough, with the sun at just the right angle, to create a good focus.
I've never seen anything like that, crazy.
I think you are right jimf about the "lensing" through the windshield... some of the Super Tenere owners had a similar heating and deforming of plastics in a focus area behind the windshield. Solved this by draping some type of cover over the windshield. One could also change the orientation of the bike to the mid day high radiation of the sun.
  5. I don't know much about Lithium batteries in auto-electrical systems, apart from they are significantly more costly.
    <googles>

The SPS LIPO10A seems to be an alternative to the standard YTZ10S - it has a whopping 210 CCA i.e. 20 more than the Yuasa YZ10s and 10 less than the larger Yuasa. It weighs in at 870g against 3.2kg for the Yuasa, so saves 2.3kg. In the UK it costs £130, so about twice the cost of the Yuasa.

That 2kg might be useful to a racer but on a sports touring bike? Same with the fast charge ability: on a total loss system like on an enduro racing bike then yes, that is a useful feature but on a high mileage touring bike? I think not but YMMV.

I have met a number of UK based MT09 Tracer owners and all of them, including me, could enhance the performance of their bikes more by a personal weight loss programme, rather than trying to shave a bit off the bike.

As I said above, the OE Yuasa is still going strong in my old Super Tenere 5.5 years after leaving the factory. There's nothing about the Li-on technology that convinces me it is worth the additional cost over a quality AGM battery in a road bike application.
But losing 2.3kg would require at least three weeks of discipline and no wine or beer...
And sustaining the weight reduction... well I'm just sayin....
  6. Boy, this modern scooter ownership is sure demanding! First you have to read everybody else's ideas, opinions and interesting purchases. Then one has to find all these cool things in the country of ownership or pay through the nose... Then you have to put all this cool stuff on your scooter... whew... I'm toooo tired to ride.
Installed Yamaha lowering links and lowered the fork tubes in the triple clamps, Kouba mirror extenders, and fabed up a side stand foot.

I got to know the bike a bit... first day with it at the house. I am really short - 28 5/8" pants inseam and could not tip toe both sides of the bike with the low seat in the low position... My Super Tenere was the same... so I pulled the adjusting tray out from under the seat and cut the seat bumpers down to lower the seat as much as possible. The bumpers sit directly on the frame now. I have also ordered the Yamaha lowering links that drop the rear suspension 15mm.
Then I installed the D&G hugger which ought to help keep things a bit cleaner. Also installed a Fenda Extenda on the front fender.
Tommorow the OEM heated grips will go on... If I don't go skiing... it is still early spring here.
