  1. I am having the worst experience with Shad. I ordered my E-48s a week and a half ago, and they still haven't shipped. My card has been charged, though. Repeated emails and calls went unanswered all last week until Friday afternoon, when a man told me that UPS 'doesn't come to pick up their packages as often anymore' (even though the package has a tracking number? Hard to believe) but he'd check with the warehouse and get back to me by COB. That didn't happen either. It's been sitting in 'Ready for UPS' since last Tuesday. I asked if he even had them in stock, he said yes, plenty, but it's UPS' fault and UPS is making Shad look bad. They even sent me an email saying my order has shipped, but UPS is saying that only a label has been printed.

So hey, just called UPS while writing this, and they told me that ShadUSA's UPS account has been suspended, and that's why no drivers have been stopping by to pick up packages. I could pay an additional $15 to get a driver to go over there and get it (no WAY am I paying more, and because the account is suspended, UPS won't just charge it to Shad) or just hope they happen to see a driver passing by and ask them to pick up their outgoing stuff. Or, you know... cancel the order and try to find them elsewhere.

    9/6 *UPDATE*

Shad emailed me just now to say the reason they haven't sent them yet is because they just got a big shipment in from manufacturing, and they spent all last week unpacking that shipment and hope to ship my bags today. I let him know that UPS is telling a different story (see above), but I would give them the benefit of the doubt and expect a shipping notification today.
    We shall see.

  2. While waiting for my super cheap shorty to arrive, I'm still playing with my current set up (Puig deflector + stock screen) and I realized that the screen has a lot of play in it before it hits the stopper support brackets.... I bent them forward about ½" or so, and now they're just touching the screen. I went for a 100+ mile run today, and noticed less buffeting since the screen isn't bouncing as much (doubly so with the added weight of the not-light Puig) at higher speeds. I did notice a bit more wind roar, but less buffeting.
Give some, take some, I guess.
  3. trambo, totally off subject - what bag is that on the back? Will it hold a full face helmet?
That's the old (discontinued) Cortech Sport tailbag. It will not hold a helmet, but great for raingear, gloves, bottled water, snacks and almost anything else.
That was very weird for a minute - I have the same bag (and bike, obviously), and I did a momentary double-take. That's one of the best tailbags there ever was - not huge, but expandable out to the sides, secures to the bike well, carries more than you'd think. My go-to when my saddlebags don't have enough space.
  4. Depends on my mood... in no particular order:
Shoei X-12 Martyr (for when I want lightest and (usually) quietest helmet with best ventilation - doesn't work well with my intercom speakers, though, so it's worn a lot less often now.
Icon Alliance (one of 3 different designs - Shakki, Nikova, Dia de Los Muertos - decent cheap helmet with fun new graphics all the time) - my usual go-to when I want visibility and attention drawn to my head
HJC AC-12 Carbon - was my wife's helmet for about 5 minutes, now my 'stealth mode' dark helmet
Scorpion open face with dark shield - for when I'm going for the 'riot police/Cobra Commander' look
Bilt helicopter helmet - hey, it was $69 with a drop-down visor and I look like a fighter pilot :)
Unknown brand carbon fiber half helmet - for when I'm on my M109R and am feeling less than smart, and wanting painful bug welts on my face by the end of the ride.
  5. I received and installed the Puig windscreen extender today (on the stock screen), and it's definitely an improvement. There is a lot of tweaking you can do to change the height and angle of the screen, so it'll just take some time to dial it in a bit further. I can't say it's quiet behind the screen(s), but it's way less buffeting than before. And I can REALLY hear the bike now - it was kind of shocking how loud the bike became under me. I like it :)
  6. Yes, since fitting a Puig deflector I can now hear the induction roar and engine noises. Nothing to worry about but it does make some odd noises at times and drastic differences in the whine from the transmission in different gears.
Still using earplugs as even the lower noise levels will cause damage as the effect accumulates over time.
You're using it with the stock windscreen?
  7. I thought it was my windscreen buzzing, too... but upon (slightly less-than-safe investigation while riding) I discovered it was actually where the outer hand guard rests on the bracket at the very inside of the guard. A tiny piece of foam completely silenced a nasty buzz.
  8. That's something that was brought up awhile back... that perhaps screen flex was contributing to the buffeting we're experiencing. Maybe I'll see about fabricating an 'extension' of sorts with rubber ends to stabilize the screen a bit better.
  9. I put 1/2 inch spacers under my screen in all four positions to allow more air up underneath it, using M5x0.8 30mm long screws.  It does seem to be somewhat better, especially when there's not too much traffic ahead.
I had a Givi Airflow on my '12 VStrom and loved it--it wasn't the best looking screen, but it was really effective and quiet.  Hopefully Givi will offer something in that line that somewhat integrates with the bike.

I think this could potentially be a great idea... off to Lowe's I go. Cheap and possible effective solution!
So I tried this.... and I can kinda tell the difference. There's slightly less buffeting - it's not a complete solution, but there is definitely a difference when you let more air come in from under the screen. Worth the few bucks invested, but I'm still going to be replacing this stock screen.
  10. Interesting design... the touring version appears to drop down towards the headlights quite a bit. I'm curious how they handle the low pressure area without any kind of a venting or cutout on a shield that size. Great deal if you buy both models, though.

  12. Agreed... can't do the barn door look. I need something that looks like it was made for the bike, not a slab with the right holes drilled in it.
Function over fashion for me, I don't really care what it looks like as long as it works.
Sorry, but I'm not willing to make an amazing looking bike ugly to accommodate this design flaw. There are solutions out there that don't look like I velcroed a flat piece of plexiglass onto my bike. To each their own.
  13. I do see the difference in different helmets (I have a collection), but they all buffet badly right around eye level. If I stand up, I get clean air and much less noise, regardless of the helmet. I love my bike, and resolving this issue will make me significantly happier.
