1. So I got my first ticket on my fj? A friend and I was riding on the dragon and what do you know it a cop was waiting for me on the other side of the curve. He said he got me at 64 in a 30. Hopefully the judge will work with me on dropping it down or letting me take a driving class
64 in a 30 zone ???  wouldnt that be the same % over as doing 128 in a 60 zone
It's incredibly easy to do those speeds on an FJ on the dragon. It's very difficult to keep the speeds under the ever lowering speed limit on the dragon. I find myself looking through the corners and throttle on to weight the back wheel for more traction and stability. If you aren't staring at your speedo, the FJ will get you up over 60 before you realize it, especially coming out of a turn onto a short straight. The dragon is still worth doing once but it's fame has ruined it IMHO.
2. If you have an online connection with your bank, check if they have a temporary limited amount card feature.  I use B of A ShopCard for online purchases if I can't use paypal.  It creates a new CC and security code number, allows me to set a maximum amount and an expiration date.  So if it does get hacked into my liability and hassle is real limited.
While that is a nice feature bank cards almost always draw funds from your balance and it takes some period of time for the funds to be restored to the balance after fraud is detected. Whereas with a credit card I've never been out a penny for even a day the four or five times fraudulent charges have showed up on them.

I've been out a card, while on vacation, that had automatic payments for services like netflix set up on it, and used for booking the hotel, the rental car.  Had to go back and change all those services, the hotel booking down at the desk, the rental car on return.  Even though I wasn't out any money, I was out my main card and had to deal with a bunch of crap while on vacation.  At the time, I only had the main one with a high credit limit and a secondary with a very low limit.  That being said, I never use a debit card because they have all the same risks of being stolen but don't have the same consumer protection laws.  I don't even carry it with me.  Plus, why would I when the credit card companies practically pay me to use their card with cash back?
3. Here is what your bike will look like when finished installing the '14 FJR bags...
http://fj-09.org/thread/2537/clean-bikes-camera

Thanks for posting that picture.  I love the way the bike looks with the FJR bags.  I was at the dealer today for my breakin maintenance and priced out the 2014 FJR bags.  I must admit I was a bit shocked at the price but yutahey, you only life once.  Now I just have to wait for this years tax refund.  Thanks again everyone.
Keep an eye on eBay. You may be surprised one day by a good deal.
4. (Shad bags hold full faces. Givis might too, not sure. FWIW.)
true. I just prefer the mounting hardware and ability to key all the bags to the ignition. I'm willing to pay a premium for that. If I remember, there wasn't too much of a price difference anyway. Even if there was, I'm happy with my choice.
5. A couple things. You need the FJ-09 lower mounts, just as you would for the city bags. The only difference between the bags are the lids. They mount the exact same way as the city bags that are marketed for the FJ-09. Yamaha only discontinued the unpainted FJR bags. The painted ones can still be purchased new. You will also need a lock set. They make a kit that allows you to rekey the locks to the ignition as well if you would like to. Everything is sold separately.
6.

You have also a good day... 8-)
....just sharing knowledge and experience...try it...it's so much fun... ;)

Don't worry, I don't think he was referring to you. I think he was referring to this post:

nice work highplains...but...I need to inform you that you just installed the Yamaha Musical Instruments logo on your FJ. The Yamaha Motors logo has the points of the tuning fork crossing the boundary of the circle. The Musical Instruments logo is the one you chose, the tuning fork completely contained inside the circle. Also, the letter M in the word YAMAHA has the center point stopping short of the two legs. The Motor logo font uses a symmetrical font and the center point touches down even with the legs.
;)  (rofl)

Quite interesting. As a musician, it makes me want to do this mod as a subtle wink to music. Just a tiny bit. It still goes against my policy of advertising for free though. And, I'd have to explain it to everyone except for you.
7. @root Looks like the paint came out good, digging the back rest for your passenger.
Thank you.  I had to get the top box and back rest from Canada.  I went to yamahagenuineparts.com .  The top box and the back rest are both Yamaha parts, I just couldn't find them from a dealer in the US.  The top case mounts directly to the yamaha rear rack.  All 3 bags have been keyed to the ignition as well.  All the bags quick release from the bike. I'm pretty happy with the setup.
8. It has been well established that Yamaha has accessory delivery issues. I found some used FJR bags on eBay. I plan to repaint them matte to match the bike. I could probably get them professionally painted at a body shop and still be money ahead.
So, you're saying you can no longer order the yamaha FJR sidebags? If so, that sucks.  After a week or so of research I just decided to go with that option for the FJ9.  I'll try to order through a few dealers this week and see what they say.
To clarify, you can no longer order the "unpainted" FJR bags.  The unpainted match the Matte Grey color really well as it is black plastic.  All the painted ones are gloss coat so they do not go well with the matte paint.  As far as I know, you can still order the painted ones that match the red bike.  Yamaha's only out to screw the Matte Grey FJ-09 riders.  Lol.
9. So I finally got a call back from Corporate. He said (oddly enough) that the FJR bags are manufactured in Europe and that they have definitely been disco'd. I told him how popular these are and he warned me about loading weight, blah, blah, and I said something along the lines of, "maybe they'll be popular for the FJR if they were available again." Anyways, no more. I'm kinda deflated; I've been looking for them for months. Now to shop for some Shad or Givi.
What pisses me off is that the wife's Versys 650 was almost $4k cheaper and came with matched bags that hold my large HJC with a Sena 20S no prob.  Yamaha has a serious accessories problem.

10. I was really looking forward to having everything keyed to the ignition and being able to fit helmets in the side case
Hello, are you sure that a helmet can fit in fjr bags? From what I have read, they are not big enough
xcsp beat me to it. I can't confirm yet from experience but I will be able to soon. I just bought some FJR bags off eBay. Everything I've read says the FJR bags will fit a helmet. The FJ-09 city bags will not.
11. My bag plan has now blown up in my face and I'm not sure what I plan to do. None of the painted bags look right with the matte grey and I was really looking forward to having everything keyed to the ignition and being able to fit helmets in the side case. I also don't like the plumbing required for the aftermarket bags... Grr... >:( I should have just spent the money up front instead of waiting. This is what I get for being "responsible".
12. Oh, I attempted to even the heat left to right by putting some shrinkwrap tubing over the bar and under the grip for extra insulation. I had no luck trying to get the grip over the tubing without it coming unglued and bunching up, even using (much stronger) spray glue rather than hairspray. After a couple of tries I gave up on that and just glued the grip on the naked bar, but thinking about it afterward I should have cut a double-length portion of the shrinkwrap, glued and shrunk it to the bar, with a floppy end sticking out over the end of the bar long enough that I can pull it completely through the grip and hold it while I pushed the grip on. Then I could have cut the tubing to the right length after it was all together.
In quick testing last night the heat doesn't seem to be as uneven as some have suggested, but it's not really cold yet; if I get annoyed by unevenness later in the season I will try the shrinkwrap again.

I used 2 layers of electrical tape for insulation being very careful to make it even. I didn't bother with glue. It's on there very solid without it. I used alcohol to help get the grip on. If it loosens up, I'll glue it. It's still a little uneven heat. The colder it is outside the more uneven it is.
13. Hwy speeds in B mode gets me OVER 50mpg ;  210m B4 resv.    In standard mode 160-170 resv 45mpg ;Good wear on my Angel GT tires
That's quite interesting. In another thread, many people were complaining they got worse gas mileage in B mode, which I know is counter intuitive. I've personally not stuck with a single mode through a full tank yet so I can't say one way or another.
14. Both good suggestions.
Another to add: has the shift shaft been replaced under warranty? Did the bike seem to "loose track" of gear selection before the replacement? Or only afterwords?

If so, the dealer who performed the recall work may need to double check the job.

My bike does this occasionally if I forget to downshift when slowing to a stop. If I stop and realize I'm in 4th gear for example, simply down shifting at that point is difficult and my indicator on the instrument cluster will indicate the -- that you mentioned seeing. I have to manipulate the clutch out slightly while downshifting to get the gears to select down to N or 1st, if that makes any sense.

Skip
I've had the downshifting issue on just about every bike I've ridden. Quite scary when the light turns green just as you come to a stop and cars are barreling up behind you. You have to lightly feather the clutch just enough to get the transmission turning but not enough to drive the wheel.

Ok, back to the original topic. I would definitely try what wessie suggested first. It's a simple fix that has worked for others in the past. Theoretically it could be the shift shaft but I think the chances are much slimmer than the pedal.
