  1. I'm glad that you posted about this. After I added an extension to my mirrors, my left one started giving me this issue. I hadn't noticed the 10mm bolt before. I will try attacking from that angle. It is pretty aggravating because bumpy roads exacerbate the situation and that is all that Louisiana has to offer.

I just replaced the photochromatic shield on my RF1200.  My old one still transitioned perfectly after 19k miles of commuting, but was scratched up from user idiocy.  I was lucky to get it just before the price jumped, so I won't be getting another one.  At 200 for the visor, I just can't justify it for convenience.

Yeah, I just saw the new prices. That's ridiculous. I'm doing my best to make this one last. I'm not sure if I will buy another either if they keep them at such a price.

Maybe you would enjoy a Hondamatic. LOL.  No pesky clutch at all.

The African Twin has an automatic transmission option.

It actually looks really neat but I think I enjoy the clutch work and would miss it too much.

To clutch or not to clutch... You always have the option on the GT. It isn't an either/or situation. But under steady hard acceleration, the QS does make a difference.

The issue of buffeting was another reason I started down this road.  I used to ride with the shield cracked open to get some extra air.  If I have the shield closed it fogs up every time I stop at a stop light.  Anyway, on the FJ the bike's windshield isn't high enough to get the airflow over the top of my head.  And when the helmet shield is cracked open I get buffeted like crazy.  I close the shield and the buffeting is 90% gone, but then I have to deal with fogging.  So I drilled enough vent holes to let me ride with the shield down all the time.  And that seems to be working great.  My first idea was a little too much; all I really need is a few holes.

I wish some of the helmet shield mfrs would sell vented versions of some of the shields....

If you don't want to drill in your next face shield, get a visor with a pin lock insert. I''m on my first helmet with one and love it. Absolutely fog free year round!

And an option  on the drop down tinted lens has worked great for me. I bought the photochromic shield for my Shoei RF1200 and it's all I need. It is nice to not have to worry about that anymore.

  5. I'm only a few hundred miles into this bike. But for me, one thing that helps with easing the kickstand down is to (I hope I describe this correctly) as the foot goes down and back to get to the kickstand, I bump the footpeg up and out of the way, then catch the kickstand put it down. With a little practice, it really eliminated that kickstand struggle.

Posted this topic by mistake in FJ Tracer forum, here is where I wanted it...

I am wondering how do you guys like the quick shifter on the Tracer GT and how do you operate it. I am finding out that its function is rather rough and needs some practice to make it work smooth. The idea of shifting with it under full gas is, in my opinion, out of question, unless you want to ruin your gearbox in short time. In my experience, the only way to make it work smoothly is to kind of level out the RPMs so that you are not accelerating much, before shifting to higher gear. I still use clutch when shifting into 2nd and often when going to 6th.  I am wondering as well if there is any adjustment on the QS rod, I do not see any moving part on it, so I am curious what kind of sensor is there...

As stated above, these systems are designed for exactly what makes you nervous. This isn't a new system, just new to this type of bike. I am having to re-educate my wrist on this but by just leaving the throttle wherever it might be at that moment and shifting; instantly, you are in the next gear.

And a few of you mentioned using the clutch, per the manual (page 4-24), "It does not operate when the clutch lever is pulled." So, your "help" is actually just a normal shift.
