  1. Ok I'm ordering a light tint Madstad. Probably 20" but I'll do the measuring thing to be sure. :)
Make sure you post here what you think of it when you get it. I think you will be quite satisfied.
I haven't ordered the Madstad yet. Shipped to me in AZ from FL is $266. That is steep. If I don't like it and send it back I will lose at least $60. I lost $50 reselling a CalSci. This game sucks! kinda' lol
  2. Basstodave,
Just look at my post a bit earlier on this thread with some photos. I look over the shield. On Madstad website it tells you how to pick screen size. I think about 7 posts up.
I also have more photos of it on my " farkling the FJ 09 by rszk thread in accessories reviews.

I got the light grey tint. For me this is great system.

    Cheers
I'm 5' 7" and installed a 20" Madstad today. It works really well, and is *very* adjustable. I bought the clear shield. It's a bit expensive, but seems worth it for me.
Glad it came with good instructions, because the 2 slider brackets were pre-assembled incorrectly.

  3. Just a quick rant. The stock windscreen makes high speed riding miserable and I'm 5'6". It's as if Ferrari contracted the defunct Yugo factory to design and build a windshield.
Get the Madstad system. We are basically the same height. 20 inch screen is perfect for you.

Can you tell me a little more about the Madstad? I had their system on my VStrom 650 but that bike had an enormously strange front end and buffeting was terrible. Does the Madstad work in more than one position for you?
Are you looking over the top or through it?
Is it quiet behind the screen? Because air flow is directed over the top of your helmet?
I believe function over form but does it make the bike look 'clunky' or something like that. Like a square tacked onto a circle.
Did you get the clear or which tint? Would you change that if you could?
    Thanks

  4. I emailed Parabellum to find out the length of their touring windscreen from the center of the top screws to the top middle edge of the screen. The 22" touring Parabellum screen is 14.5". The flyscreen is 9".

If the manufacturer lists an overall length for the screen it doesn't tell you what the actual height will be mounted. All manufacturer's should list this measurement for their screens on their websites.

I am thinking about trying one of these on the OEM windshield. I am 5'6".
Leaning toward the Givi. The MRA clamps may be too wide for the OEM.

  6. Just got a new FJ-09 and tried the windscreen at its highest and lowest, but there was a lot of buffeting in both positions. I took off the screen and the noise is gone, and am now just looking for the smallest screen possible that is curved and makes the front look more like other sportbikes.
I read this whole thread and the best looking ones to me are the CalSci dark shorty, but it requires taking off the hand guards which I want to keep for now, and I really like the look of this MRA screen but it isn't available yet - http://www.bs-motoparts.com/en/wind-protection/double-bubble-screen-mra-yamaha-mt-09-tracer-2015-clear-i674-56989-0.htm

Can anyone recommend the smallest screen possible that might offer minimal protection, but finishes off the front end with a nice curved sporty look?
The hand guards do not interfere with the CalSci shorty windshield. I have one. If you want to buy my week old shorty send me a message. It looks good but doesn't work for me.

  7. More time with the CalSci. A big Meh. Bobble head effect. I'm 5'6". I'll have to switch between OEM and the shorty to see which works better. I did however change to using foam earplugs and the Moldex Meteor earplugs #6630 NRR28 work great for me. I was using silicone re-useable before and should have gone disposable sooner.
Which Calsci screen?  The tall touring?
    The Shorty.
  8. More time with the Shorty CalSci. A big Meh. Bobble head effect. I'm 5'6". I'll have to switch between OEM and the shorty to see which works better. 9. Installed the CalSci shorty windscreen. I'm 5'6" wearing a Shoei rf1000 or Rf1100. It works about 'OK' for me in one position only. Not a vast improvement over stock. More saddle time may change my opinion. I wear earplugs. The stock was just too noisy in any position.
I installed a MRA with spoiler on my 2009 Versys. It was such a pleasurable and dramatic improvement over stock on the bike. I never expected such calm at highway speeds from such a simple set-up even when passing multiple 18 wheelers.
I will be disappointed if at some point I don't find a shield that works as well for the FJ09. Change bike disappointed? I can't say right now. But this could be the FJ09 Achilles heel!?
  10. How does anyone get a socket into the well on the mirror mounting post? I think it is 10mm but there isn't any clearance to fit a 1/4" drive socket into.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to adjust the mirror and would like to understand how this assembly is pieced together.

  11. This is from my inquiry into MRA windshields for the 09. I had their screen on my Versys and the adj spoiler was the bomb!

    Hello David,

Thanks for your Email. Unfortunately, we have no windshields for this bike
available and no plans for producing windshields for this bike. Sorry.

    Best regards

  12. Is there a laminar lip that can be clamped or screwed to the OEM screen? Someone selling them stateside? That for me might be an option other than trying different helmets and screen sizes/manufacturers.
Is my thinking somewhat correct that controlling the air hitting and flowing over the top of the shield is as important, or more so, than the height of the shield? Or....is the height paramount to lessen buffeting and noise and the lip just gives the rider the ability to fine tune the airflow?

Also. Will cutting the OEM screen down about 3" do for a rider the same as buying a shorty windshield?

  13. I was able to get out yesterday with my new ermax touring windscreen. I am not at all impressed. I am 5'8" and got buffing at the high setting with alot of noise. Middle setting not much buffing but still noisey. Low better but still not impressed. I also bought the short ermax sport screen and tried it out on a short run. I like it much better but will see how it does on the freeway.

How tall are you and what is your impression about the shorty Ermax?
