The difference between the cost of upgrading the suspension on the FJ and buying a brand new Tracer GT is more than "a bit", its more like $11,000.

You can get PREMIUM direct replacement suspension parts for $1,800-$2,000 or you can get the factory parts modified.  At a minimum you will need heavier rate springs.  The same would go for the new 2020 GT.

Does the FJ do everything else to suit your needs?  Save the money and get the suspension set up properly for your weight and riding style.

What @betoney said... and even if you have new. bike fever and want a newer Tracer, no bike out of the box is going to have suspension spec'd for a 300 # rider, so if you get a new bike, you're going to want to upgrade the suspension and the very least have a spring rated for your weight. I'd save my money and just go with the best suspension you can afford spec'd to your weight.

Thanks Beyoney and Mingo, this was the answer I was looking for. Currently the FJ is my daily commuter, for which it does a great job. I do tend to do long rides, so there are a few other things that I'm looking at for the FJ other than suspension, namely cruise control and vibration reduction.

  2. Ok, so I've been debating this for a bit. I have a 2016 fj06 with 16k miles on it and as a heavy rider (300lbs) it is in dire need of better suspension.

The question is, do I spend the money and get new internals for the 2016, or do I spend a bit more and get the 2020 Tracer 900 GT and swap what parts will swap over?

If I get the new 2020 GT, is the suspension going to handle my weight or will I be looking at doing an upgrade anyway?
