Hello you helpful lot. I'm prepping my 2020 900 GT for a 3 month cross country trip so farkles are all about practicality and comfort. I'd like the riding position to be a little more upright and feel like the bars need to come and inch or two closer to me. Has anyone installed barbacks? If so, which ones and what's your verdict?
Cheers!

thank you. also just found a helpful photo guide on here about how to remove fuel tank, so i guess i'm going to give this a go!!!

Thanks. I guess this is as detailed as their model specific install instructions get. Is removing the tank and getting to those vacuum spigots relatively straightforward for someone (me!) that isn't very confident with tools?! tempted to retun it to swap for the X system so i don't have to worry about the vacuum hose, but that's another $100...

It's a good observation, but I think that would be problematic for city riding with a lot of stop and go traffic. Otherwise, when you're going over 20mph/ 30km/h the air current under the bike is strong enough so that the chain is not affected by the exhaust heat.
I just mounted a Scottoiler Vsystem on my Tracer (I'm using the vaccumatic system for some time now, already had it on my previous 2 bikes). The Scottoiler oil (I use the red one - around here gets quite hot around the summer) is basically like gear oil. Yes, if you don't set it up right it will make a lot of mess, but the oil washes off the bike quite easily with a soft degreaser (that's not attacking the O-rings and bikes surfaces) and soap compared to chain spray (especially those "white" ones which collect a lot of mess around the front sprocket and chain guard).
Hi @Schumy and @keithu I just bought a Scotttoiler V system but am a little nervous about the install as can't find any model-specific install instructions on the scottoil website, this forum or youtube I have a 2020 Tracer. Can you give me some tips on how to get to the vacuum point? And where you decided was best for mounting the reservoir? Thanks!

Hi guys
Bought a Scottolier V-system but can't find any model-specific info on how to install on my 2020 Tracer GT. I'm a little daunted by trying to find the vacuum point to connect it to. Can anyone help? Happy to also get tips on best mounting place for the resevoir but I did notice a couple of other topics on that.
Thanks!

Wow, thanks Chris! Really appreciate the offer, and the tips. And your pics are spectacular!
I marked up a map with general direction of travel (clockwise route starting from NY). Then I overlaid a to-scale map of the UK and only then did I realise quite how big the US is (you can see it inside of Montana!) 🤪

Thanks, I'll let you know if/when I'm in your neighborhood! 👍 70s bikes sound interesting...!

Thanks. What do you mean by calling audibles?

Thanks. It's the one thing I've been debating. I normally go old school and use paper maps (as I don't usually plan specific routes, just do it on the fly) with smartphone GPS as a backup. I suspect I'll be relying on GPS more than normal on this trip because of the huge distances, but was still toying with the idea of just using my phone. Will do some more research on this forum about it - thanks!

Thanks Rob, that's fortunate as that's the one I already ordered 👌 pile of goodies should be arriving soon!

Thanks for the welcome! I've not planned routes, but have collected a long list of places I want to go to so guess I will link them up. I've done a few 3-4 week trips before in Europe and the Himalayas but nothing this long! Will gratefully receive and tips for touring, routes, etc (thanks already for those) 👍
I also hope to be able to soon contribute to the forum based on my experience on such a mammoth adventure on the Tracer!
Cheers

Great idea - I will plan to do a couple of weekend trips before I set off on the long haul! It's one of the reasons I didn't leave it to the last minute to swap bikes, and with that stock seat and windshield, I'm glad I didn't! 😁

Thanks! That's the plan, going to head west out of NYC to hit up CO, UT, CA, all the national parks, up through OR, WA then maybe a bit around BC and Alberta, drop down to MO and WY then home again. But we'll see, anything could happen! Leaving on 1 June. Cant wait!

Hi all
Aaron here, from the UK, living in NYC. Bought a 2020 Tracer 900 GT yesterday and been getting lots of tips from this forum (thanks!). Traded in my BMW r Nine T as it's not the right bike for an upcoming 3 month road trip around the US and maybe Canada!
Luckily topbox was already fitted so top priorities are seat, windshield, auto chain oiler, rad guard, tankbag, crash protection, additional power socket, maybe do something with those pumpkin blinkers. Any other tips for what would be on your list?!
Cheers
Aaron

Barbacks advice

Thanks guys! Looks like the Motopump gives 20mm pullback and 25mm rise. The Heli's give 29mm both up and back. Think I'll go for the Heli's. Thanks for advice
