  1. Just a quick update on this matter

I have had the new seat locked in for a week now and succesfully unlocked it yesterday. I could see that the padding was about to shrink a little due to being under preassure when locked in. So I trust it that it will get better over time

  2. Hey

So as stated above,  happy owner of tracer 9 2021 Tech Camo owner.

Born and raised in the very little kingdom of Denmark in Europe :)

The Tracer 9 2021 is my first Yamaha. previous bikes were all Suzuki and for the record so far I'm very fond of the switch of brands.

English is not my native language so bare with me if the grammar/spelling is not pitch perfect :)

Don’t force the key, as it absolutely will twist off in the lock if you overdo it.  Don’t ask me how I know this… ☹️

    Two thoughts:

    1) Press down firmly on the front edge of the seat while simultaneously trying to unlock… you want to reduce any pressure you can where the lock clicks into that tab on the seat base.

    2) If you’re feeling adventurous, file a little bit of metal off the bottom edge of the cutout on that metal tab.  It shouldn’t take much to get the fit snug, but not bound-up tight.

OK I won't ask you how you know this ;) but what I will do is express my deepest sympathy with the struggle of getting the broken key out of the lock :o

Thanks for the input. It would have been easier if it had been possible to install some washers underneath the bracket. Since it is not possible maybe your idea of filing 1-2 mm off of the metal tab.

  4. Thanks all. Problem semi-solved :)

I tried using force (Sitting on the seat my self) and it locked in and was in place. However it was a struggle to unlock it afterwards. I guess it takes some practice. For a short moment I got scared that I could not unlock it :o

So..next step is to find out what options I have in case I can't unlock it and even worse if I break the key in the lock trying to unlock the seat!

The same thing happened with a Corbin seat on my VFR. I took the bracket off the seat and added a washer between the seat pan and the bracket and never had to press down hard on the seat again.

A few pictures to show the backside of the passenger seat. I can't seem to find the place to add washers between the seat pan and the bracket?

Hmm ok. Being a not very skilled person in terms of mechanics (I'm a software programmer with no crafting talent:)  ) would it be too much to ask you to make a few pictures showing what you mean?

Oh and thanks for the input

I have Topsellerie seats. The pax seat is not too big, but needs a bit of pressing to set.

Just sit on the pax seat to have it snug into place. Will get better with time, but never real easy.

Allright..so you are saying to use force by sitting on it until it clicks in?

I have bought a replacement seat from top sellerie. The seat is beautiful but too big to locate. Has anyone else had this problem?

OK so I recieved mine last week and tried to install it yesterday. Sadly it did not fit and to make matters worse, it is a custom made seat where I had to return my own :(

So now I'm without any seats at all which is a real bummer. I have emailed Topsellerie about the issue and expect an answer tomorrow about what to do.

The issue as I see it.

    • The rider seat can be installed OK
    • The passanger seat can be installed OK, but only if the rider seat is NOT installed.
    • If the rider seat is installed there doesn't seem to be enough room for the passenger seat. Not even by using force I can make it click in to the lock :)

I have noticed that when the rider seat is installed and locked in, I can barely get my finger down to the release lever now due to very little space. This was not an issue with the original seat leaving my to conclude that the issue is the rider seat being too "long" for the passenger seat to fit as well.

Hold on, let me measure the thickness of the bracket...

Thanks...and if I can ask for one more thing...

Im not very skilled in terms of mechanichs etc...I'm a software programmer just trying to make my way and learn along the way. Furthermore my native language is not english...so what I want to ask if it is not too much. Could you make a picture of what you mean when you say "bracket"...just so I know what it is :)

Ok I might have it at least partially figured out.  The bike in the video is "missing" a bracket on the left side, upon which is mounted the rear shock adjuster.  Apparently the bike in the video does not have the KYB suspension.  The bracket that mounts this suspension adjuster also apparently serves as "washer" for the larger pannier/pax footrest bracket.  Since there is no such bracket on the left side, for this particular bike, I'm guessing there is a need for a couple of washers to take its place.  One of the washers in the video appears to be a plastic, and the smaller one appears to be metal.

In fact, in the video, the guy points to the right side bracket and wags his finger, apparently saying (I can't hear his voice, only the music) since the right side has the bracket holding the rear brake master cylinder, no washers are needed there.

If the video bike had a support bracket for the rear suspension adjuster, on the left side, then no washers would be needed there, either.

I also looked into the shop manual for this bike.  No washers are indicated on either left or right side.  I suppose this is because of the small thin sandwiched brackets that hold the aforementioned devices: rear brake master cylinder on right side, and rear shock adjuster device on the left side.  Again, the bike in the video has no rear shock adjuster on the left side.  Hence the need for washers there to take up the space left by there being no sandwiched bracket in there.

Thanks. My bike is the same as the one in the video (not GT, hence no KYB suspension) so I guess I need those washers on the left side as well. Do you consider these to be standard 1-2mm washers like these?

  11. Hi

I just bought a used set of Yamaha side bags (30L) for my Tracer9. Unfortunately the manual for assembly did not come along. My first question is if anyone has the instructions??

Second question. I found a Youtube video which pretty well describes how to install the bags but at 4:45 it seems as if a set of washers are added prior to mounting the rear foot-rest/bag fittings back on the frame.

My second question is if these are normal washers or if they are some special ones?? Again if only I had the manual for assembly I believe the answer to my question would be there.

The video showing the washers (video starts at time of installing them https://youtu.be/siE6oOYqjXg?t=282

    Thanks in advance!
