  1. I think its the TPS but I'm not sure. Bike loses throttle control completely, drops to idle and I have to power cycle the whole thing to get control back. Happened 3 times a couple weeks ago. No bueno!

Had a similar issue on my FZ6, but that was way back when and I'm not even sure that bike had an APS.

Thanks for the link, i'll take a look. Also probably going to remove them both and clean the connections to see if that helps first. The old girl deserves some new parts but I'm not wanting to drop hundreds if I can avoid it.

  2. Hey y'all,

been a while since I had to take the beast apart! I'm getting loss of throttle control while riding. Time for a new TPS I suspect. I've been searching but I am having trouble finding what I am sure is the right part. Lots of links for buying parts come up in the search. Many don't have images or associated bikes even. Google really is shite these days.

Anyway, if you knw the part number for the TPS for a 2015 I would be most grateful.

This motor does not like to cruise below 5,000 rpm. Try to get into a lower gear and get the RPM up there a bit. It may sound a bit busy to you, but that's a characteristic of this engine. Check throttle cable slack etc. Exhaust other possible causes before spending the money... IMO. On earlier bikes (FJ) we could adjust the APS to smooth things out... not sure what options exist on the GT (no access to diagnostic mode). Good luck.

could also try a different sprocket ratio. Less off the line, more top end.

Then I assume you own the perfect bike and are completely 100% satisfied? I applaud you for accomplishing something that so many never find and never will. It could only mean that you will never sale the bike and no matter what change anything else about it, that’s a unicorn.

In reading through your posts all I see is someone looking to argue and troll.

Fairly sure we all get it. You buy something and then never change it. Glad everything you buy is perfect for you.

I'm never satisfied with a bike when I buy it. I like good suspension and ergos that meet my riding style. Also luggage, crash bars, wind screens, ect. Also do the same to my trucks. Are they perfect? Hell no because I ride/drive them like I stole it.

I suppose if your main concern is resale value you should put that bike in the garage and be sure to wax it every 3 months. By the time I'm done with it the farkles will be worth more than the bike.

  5. So, I started by looking at the Tenere 700 and couldn't help myself but look at the new Tracer. My FJ is just fine, so many aftermarket parts it's like a totally different bike.

Well, sort of. I have a long standing hatred of the side panels and have long schemed to remove the hideous abominations against man. Was just to lazy to fab something up. Hey, at least I'm honest. But looking at those new side panels, not quite enough to get me to buy a new bike... but that swingarm might be! That was one of the many differences between the fj my fz6. If I could have a longer swingarm the fj would be perfect! Except for those damn plastic triangles.

    Anyone try this?

  6. how do you test it? I know it turns on but will not lock the speed. Or... its trying to lock at "0"

I think I read those pages last night. Nothing fits. Im really hoping its just a broken wire connection. The worst part is the 9k rpm cutoff. Hows a brother supposed to get the front wheel up like that?
  7. well, looks like no dice. I will ride it to work and see if it resets but I think Im going to be using GPS for speed on this trip...

weird thing is now the TCS light is on but the ABS is not. I think I may have a break in the wires from installing the cruise control. Maybewhen I disassembled for the ignition switch replacement i broke a connection. Might try to redo that tonight. Anyone have the wiring instructions for the cruise we got through Cruisin?
  8. wow, thanks norcal. I will have my hands full tonight trying out all these tests. The bike is currently top disassembled and up on the c stand. I should be able to run the testing with the rear wheel spinning or is it just an electrical test? I wish the damn Yamaha tool wasnt 40 bazillion dollars.

I have a digital copy of the service manual and was searching it but I dont remember seeing what you posted. Got the page numbers now though!
  9. its a 2015. And just fyi I had to pay a ton of money to overnight this part from Georgia because there were only 2 left in the country according to 2 dealerships I spoke with. I now own one. Think this might be a common problem?

I'll see if I can finds the write-up. I have an obd scanner but its a little bluetooth one that i run form my phone.... I saw that it was possible to build a harness but I am supposed to leave in 48 hours. Hopefully this fixes the issue. If not it still runs so when I get pulled over I can honestly say I have no idea how fast I was going :)
  10. OK, here we go again. I just replaced my ignition switch but just prior to that I replaced the rear wheel, chain and sprockets so I am not sure when the code appeared. I looked it up and it says 3 possibilities.

    Rear wheel sensor
    clutch sensor
    clutch switch

I am leaning towards rear wheel sensor but it looks fine. No scratches or anything. I have disassembled the bike again and I can't see any loose connections. Anybody else get this before? I am supposed to leave town on saturday for a 1000 mile trip and I'm not to concerned about the lack of mph but if it is more significant that would suck.

    thanks
