  1. It's by Lightech.  It has a very precise scale and the adjusters at the end have detents when you spin them so it's very easy to align the rear tire.  It also positively locates the rear axle so you don't have to worry about it moving on you as you tighten the axle nut back up.

I'm looking into going with these off of eBay, very similar to the LighTech adjusters:

thetruck454, do the LighTech adjusters fit tight against the "flats" on the other end of the axle?

From the picture online it appears the eBay adjusters have some generous tolerances between the axle nut and adjuster.

  2. Installed a Fenda Extenda Hugger Extension.  It's a little pricey for what it is, although still cheaper than most alternatives.  It extends the hugger another 4.5 inches, so should provide better protection now from road grime on my shock and such.

Tried using the provided glue with 6 clamps and waited the recommended 24 hours to cure, but apparently the glue beads were too thick and the bond failed before I went for a ride.

Ended up using 2-sided carpet tape to hold it together while I drilled 4 holes and used Nylon push rivets pilfered from a BMW (car) fastener kit.  Not likely to fall off now.

Although the color is a little off from the hugger (varies depending on viewing angle/lighting), I'm probably not going to repaint them to match exactly.

  3. Installed some Shogun rear Spools/Sliders so my new MotoCentric M-9 rear stand works it's best.

Then I installed my SW Motech Blaze saddlebags found on my porch today - thanks again to WallyCycle!

My smaller than stock LED blinkers work as I had hoped as there is plenty of clearance between the blinkers and bags.

  4. I finally got rid of those giant pumpkins on all four corners.  Decided on these for the task: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Stalk-Navajo-LED-Turn-Signals-Adapter-Plate-Kit-Yamaha-FZ8-FZ09-/400733168672?hash=item5d4d8ee420:g:mzMAAOSw8lBTrI0n&vxp=mtr

They are made in Taiwan, seem well built though, nice rubber bases, and mounting adapter plates are included. Oh, and they are bright.  They are 2-wire lights, so unless/until I get a Blinker-Genie there are no front running lights, and they blink fast (but I like the quick rate).  From base to tip they measure 3-1/4 inches, so they are flush with the rear side rails allowing for some soft luggage use without issues.  I like them.

  5. I have been riding/commuting/filtering in the greater San Francisco Bay Area for 16 years.  It is not legal, but I do it anyway.  Why?  Saves time.  Saves me from getting rear-ended by distracted drivers.  It's way more fun to ride.

If living in another state I would do the same thing, legal or not, for the same reasons.  My view is this: No injured person or property = no crime!

Here's a recent clip of my filtering through the "Novato Narrows" on a Saturday afternoon.

  6. The benefits of the Shorai batteries are many. Googling will bring you the answers you seek.
That's no joke.  I replaced the battery in my other bike last spring with a Shorai, the weight difference alone is worth it - felt like 4-5 lbs.  Also, my bike would eat batteries - one per year - trickle-charged or not.  I haven't ridden it much since the swap, have never charged it, and it still cranks my 1200 V-Twin like new.  If it were a lead/acid battery - it would be dead.
I will replace the FJ's battery with a Shorai when the time comes.
