@BVEBRAD Did you figure out the issue with the lurching forward? Once off-throttle I get a lurch too.

Unfortunately no, I've just learned to live with it.  That and the slight hesitation when accelerating hard out of second gear.  I'm hoping it will all be gone after I get it reflashed from 2 Wheeled Dyno Works.

Glad you got it fixed.  Not criticizing but just a suggestion, get yourself a Dremel tool, its amazing what you can do with grinding, cutting, shaping etc. you are limited only by your imagination.

Hey Betoney, I do have a Dremel and Iove it.  What I didn't have was a vice so I went lazy and let the shop grind it.  It definitely saved me a bunch of time.  It took them about 2 minutes.

These look great, definitely agree the gold color makes it pop and matching the forks!

So only the clutch lever needed grinding, right? No modifications needed on the brake lever?

Also I'm curious if you reached out to ASV on this? I know it was easy to just grind the extra material down but it could be a manufacturing defect so might be worth pinging them.

Will add this to my spring farkle list anyways! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Robzilla, yes only the bracket for the clutch lever needed grinded down.  Hopefully the picture made it clear what to remove.  It cost me $10 for them to do.

I did reach out to ASV.  I spoke to one of their support techs who stated they would update their Fitment chart.  I was hoping for a better response but hey........

  4. I installed the ASV F3 series Clutch and Brake levers on my 2021 Tracer 9 GT today.  I changed the levers so I could have more adjustability on the clutch lever plus the gold color looks pretty cool.

The levers themselves fit perfectly.  When it came time to reinstall the bottom bracket for the hand guards on the clutch side things went wrong.  Even though the website indicated that the levers would fit, there was no way the bottom bracket would clear the housing on the new lever.  My solution was to take the bracket to a metal fab shop to grind away almost all the metal on the part.  It ended up fitting perfectly afterwards.

These are very nice levers and were worth the hassle IMHO.  I was wondering if anyone else has installed them and if so what do you think of them?  I will be adding a few pictures.

News to me...  really, no 2023 Tracer for us?

"Yamaha will offer its most sophisticated Tracer to date for 2023 with the new Tracer 9 GT+. The revised sport-touring machine gets numerous electronic upgrades augmenting engine, suspension, and braking performance along with a few creature comfort enhancements. As of this writing, Yamaha has no plans to release the 2023 model in the States; riders outside the USA can expect to see the machine in dealerships starting in May 2023."

This really sucks!  I wonder if it's based on sales numbers?

There's a big difference between whining and voicing a legitimate complaint about the bike not running correctly even after Yamaha's failed attempts at fixing the issues.

Hey FarmForce, why don't you go plant some corn or screw a sheep.  Read the entire post.

@BVEBRAD - I don't see an update in this thread (which we've admitted hijacked with a lot of EV banter), but I recall you getting your issues with the T9 resolved... is that correct?   Software update, or throttle bodies, or something similar?   Hoping that Yamaha got it sorted for you, and the ownership experience has been more pleasant of late.

Hey Scott, yes the bike was finally fixed in February 2022.  They also replaced my entire front brake assembly due to the fact my brake rotors were seriously warped.  The bike runs great and I love it.  Still has the flat spot in second but I've learned to live with it.  I will say the 2023 looks interesting.

On a different note I am seeing responses to this post that I've never noticed before.  I did update the history of my experiences.

When you say that you had your ECU reflashed are you referring to Yamahas reflash or some aftermarket shop?  All Yamahas reflash did was make my bike less smooth and the throttle a bit choppy.  Once my warranty is up (Yamaha extended my warranty for the time it was down, over 6 months) I plan on sending the ECU out to @ Wheeled Dyno works.  They did a nice job on my FJ09.

  9. I know windscreens are a well discussed topic so I thought I'd add my two cents worth on the Madstad.  I am 6'1" with a 30 inch inseam.  Based on the chart on Madstads website I went with a 24" screen.  There are times when I wish that I would have gotten a 26" but the 24 does work fine.  The screen will provide nice results whether you ride with it straight up or leaned back.  I ride with it leaned back which allows for a bit more air to reach me.  Noise with the screen is not an issue.  I do use the "wings" that are included with the screen.  I have no idea if they improve the ride but they do look cool.

I initially was hoping to get another Parabellum screen since the one I had on my FJ09 worked perfectly however they had not created a screen for the Tracer 9.

Bottom line, if you have been searching for a decent screen for your T9 Madstad may be the one for you.  I find it to work excellent on the T9GT.

Hi Scott, yes they got my bike fixed and I'm back in love with it.  I'm still waiting for Yamaha to make accessories available here in the USA.

  11. I agree with your assessment of the dashes.  The only time I can read my dash is once the sun starts to set.  Even then the text is usually to small to read.  It's funny, the old LCD dash on my FJ09 was perfect, clear, legible and everything you needed to see.  I wish they would have made a TFT version of that.

  12. This is an update on my Tracer 9 GT, it's been several months now since the dealer has replaced both the throttle body assemblies and the front brakes.  I am happy to report that the bike has been trouble free since then.  When it's right I can't imagine a better bike for the price along with all it offers.  It still has a few quirks that I have learned to live with the main one being the flat spot while accelerating hard in second gear.

I feel that if you can only own one bike (like me) this could be considered the perfect choice.  I'm still pissed at Yamaha since hardly any accessories are yet available.  I want the heated comfort seat.

Looks like the 2023 will offer active cruise control along with a proper TFT.  I'm hoping they will include blind spot monitoring as well but that appears questionable.  Now if they would only give us a shaft drive option.  Ride safe all!

I have similar problem on my Tracer 9 2021. It started after 18.000 km. When starting the engine in cold weather about 15 °C and slightly open the throttle the engine has tendency to stall. The other issue is when slowly accelerating and closing throttle a bit it jerks or vibrate.
And yesterday I lost the throttle during ride. I had to stop turn the engine off. After few minutes it was ok.

The fact that you lost your throttle probably means you need the throttle body assembly replaced.  That's what solved my problem.  Good luck!

  14. I bought my Tracer 9 GT in July of 2021.  After several issues which had the bike laid up for over 6 months they finally have it right, well almost.  I find their latest ECU reflash to suck, you know, the one from the recall.  The bike runs terrible when cold and there's a flat spot in the powerband that's very noticeable when accelerating hard from second gear at low revs.  I would tell you at what RPM's but I can't begin to see that sorry ass TFT that Yamaha decided to give the bike. The bike also has a strange trait when engine braking.  It will slow down as expected but then the compression just seems to release itself causing the bike to lurch forward just a bit.    My latest complaint is that Yamaha has made hardly any accessories available for the bike.  I want the heated comfort seat but it isn't available in the states.  While I find the Tracer 9 GT to be a great bike I must say that I enjoyed my 2015 FJ09 a lot more.  I was just more fun.  I'm not sure how long I'll keep the Tracer, this one has just left me with a bad taste, especially the way Yamaha has decided to run their enterprise.

I'm waiting til the new Honda NT1100 becomes available.  Hopefully I'll find that more to my liking.  Sorry for the negativity but my latest attempt to get the seat mentioned earlier has me pissed.

If anyone else is experiencing the flatspot in the powerband or the lurching when engine braking please let me know.

Just wanted to update with the latest issue I've been experiencing with my T9.  I have been noticing a "lunging" on the bike when coming to a gradual stop while applying a light front brake.  I had the dealer check it while performing my ECU reflash from the recall.  They found both front rotors warped.  New rotors have been ordered.  I hate to be so negative but this bike has been nothing but a PITA since the first week of ownership.  Hopefully once the rotors are replaced this will be it for a while as far as problems go.

Final Update, in regards to my brake issues, Yamaha replaced my rotors, brake pads and brake assembly (?????) under warranty.  The bike is now the way it should be and I'm loving it.

I have noticed one thing since the reflash from the recall.  While engine braking the bike shows down as you expect it to then all of a sudden the compression seems to "let go" causing a slight surge.  Nothing I'm concerned about but once the warranty expires I will be getting a reflash by 2 Wheel Dyno Works.  They did a great job with my old FJ09.

I posted elsewhere on this. The way OP describes it as a “lunging” as the bike slows in-gear. I feel this too. I don’t see how this could be caused by warped rotor(s). Warped rotor would cause a rhythmic pulsing I think. Not a sudden “lunge”.

Assuming we’re talking about the same thing. I’ve noticed it in particular since the recall flash. Not sure I recall it before the flash. It isn’t alarming in any sense. I suspect it is a result of ecu programming.

Ok I re-read the OP. I think he may be describing a warped rotor IF the lunging is also a pulse. The pulse slows frequency as the bike slows under light braking. Just a rotor problem. No biggie. Very common.

Hey guys, I'm the "OP" from the original post (BVEBRAD).  As far as the "lunging" goes, it's as if I were very gently squeezing the brake lever on and off in a constant rhythm.  As previously mentioned the dealer also experienced the problem and their corrective action is to replace the rotors.  I'm now waiting for them to come in.  Hopefully this will be the end of my problems with the bike, it is a fantastic machine.
