I gave mine a bath...
So everyone, what do you use to get the chain lube/crud off of the rear wheel?
-
@kik thanks for the updated (and verified) parts list.. I'm considering doing this in the future.
-
Don't know why I couldn't find them... oh well.. the more expensive ones are already on the way.
Cheap ones are a fLeaBay item.Got my Conti RoadAttack 2 EVO tires installed (haven't ridden on them yet).. ordered some FZ-09 bar ends for the summer and some new chain adjusters (gilles tooling...pricey, but i couldn't find the cheap ones that people have linked before) due to the fact that I could see where the axle had started to dig into the soft OEM chain adjuster block.

@Wiggin did you have to adjust your brake and gear pedals when you installed the new footpegs?

Edit.. @piotrek.. I think you found the right one. The one I was looking at is for the upper shock mount.

The black stuff on the muffler tip is very common. Nothing to worry about there..My bike has only 30 miles on it now and this afternoon I took her out for a short spin. The oil light came on and I returned home right away. The bike ran fine but there was some black residue on the tip of the muffler. I waited 10 minutes and checked the oil level with bike on the center stand. It wasn't up to the higher mark so I added a little bit more oil to it. Cleaned up the tip of the exhaust and took her for another ride and no oil light came on this time. I Jiust don't know what the black stuff were. Am I supposed to check the oil level with it being on the center stand?
The service manual says to "Place the vehicle on the centerstand" when checking engine oil. (P. 3-23)

I've had my touring windscreen for about a week now and I really wanted to like it but the buffeting is more than my oem with the Puig deflector. I'm 6'0 and tried all positions including seat positions. Pretty quiet in mid position with the seat in high but just can't get rid of the buffeting. Not bad looking either for a tall windscreen. I think I'm going to just have to go back to the oem with Puig deflector.
Maybe it's me because I'm sure I'm not the only 6'0 person with the windscreen. Has anyone tried the Puig deflector with the oem screen? Curious to know your thoughts about the two. The combination smooths out the air eliminating the buffeting.
I use the Puig Touring Screen with the Puig Deflector. I'm 5'11" (Over 6'0 with my boots on). I keep it in the middle position. No buffeting, very quiet. I am able to ride with my visor open pretty much all of the time, even on the highway at 80+ MPH (although I dont recommend doing that regularly).
I hope you find a solution that works for you.

We need to add some color options to the voting in this thread..

Most exhausts will perform better with a reflashed ECU. Even the akrapovic titanium which is advertised to work great with the stock tune runs better after flashing the ECU... So to answer the question, you probably don't "need" to flash it, but it will almost definitely run better if you do.

That looks nice...

...I will probably need to buy a new charger for the new battery...
Do they require a different charger than a regular battery tender?
-
I would be interested... let us know if/when you print and test it.
-
@Sheridan ... looks good. I might have to find someone to do this for me. I wondered from the beginning why SHAD decided to make the brackets so wide. Overall great system though.
-
I don't recommend to do this to Tracers with tiny tail - no room enough for blinkers.
Just cut and welded this part and bended a little where arrow is.
We were lucky. Cutted, welded two dots (not final), tried on bike and get the right size from the first cut To put sidecase is a little tricky now cause of passenger's holders (whats in English for it...), but bike is narrower with sidecases.
Will post photos tomorrow with ruler placed. I promise
I figured that is where you cut it... I may do the same thing in the future. Would like to see what it looks like in the pictures when you get a chance.
-
No photos yet. If someone interested - I'll post later. And sorry for my English
0. Replaced the frame which holds the headlight and front plastics. Tracer was hit in front by previous owner and this frame was not straight enough.
1. 2004 ZX6R shock swap. Spring powdercoated in red
2. Shad 39 top case + 36 side cases installed. Rewelded side brackets - minus 7 cm wide. Much better for line splitting!
3. Puig Touring bought. Stock screen cutted almost in a half from the bottom side, holes drilled, installed. Now its Sport Stock Screen
4. Mirrors extenders installed, hanguards removed, bar ends installed, aliexpress levers installed.
5. Yamalube 10w40, original oil filter, low profile VW knob, handmade skid plate in process
6. Was too lazy to cut and weld exhaust to remove S tube. So, said phuck off and drilled it and second chamber through outer tube with 12 mm huge drill Now I hear my exhaust! And I like it
7. Got HJC RPHA 11 Roberto, Dainese Super Rider Ddry Jacket (all in Tracer's colors), Givi 602 tankbag
8. Need to clean and lube chain and open the season this Friday. Its +11 in Kiev!
Hell Yeah! Well done sir.
Can you add some pictures or start a thread to show how you modified the side brackets? I can imagine what you did, but would like to see it.

@piotrek I will be in that position in a few weeks... ordered my suspension from @pattonme so whenever that arrives I will be out of commission for a few days. I will be sending my ECU off to Vcyclenut at the same time. Also hoping my tires last until then as well. Already ordered replacements but want to wait since I will have them off for the suspension anyway.

They look like a pretty good quality product.... they better be for $385!!!PIAA now makes a light kit for the FJ 09! Just ordered these LEDs - will let you know how they work once installed. http://www.piaa.com/store/p/901-Yamaha-LP530-LED-Driving-Light-Kit.aspx

115 mph indicated is where the speed limiter stops my bike from accelerating. Considering that you can hit 115 mph in 4th gear, I would bet that the transmission will get you to the 140-150 mph range top speed.
Anybody tried a top speed run without the limiter?

No worries...Ah, my apologies...I didn't check the actual images! Thank you.
The TSB says that they will only replace the units that exhibit the noise. However, most dealers will replace it if you mention it to them. I would ask them to replace it prior to purchasing the bike because it's basically free to the dealer.

It's not a recall.. it's a TSB (technical service bulletin). Was there ever a formal recall on this or VIN numbers identified or is this still one of those "address it when they complain" deals? (Sorry, I couldn't read through over 17 pages of content but I did check the first and last few pgs) There's a used '15 for sale that I may inquire about and it would be helpful to know if this impacts that bike.
There is a range of VINs affected. They are listed in the 1st post of this thread.
