Why are you getting the risers replaced?
-
Scorpion EXO-AT950
How's the wind noise? Any whistling at speed?
-
You all need to stop getting the recall work done. My part has been on order for about 3 weeks, still waiting!
-
You are missing my point. ABS makes practicing hard braking, right up to the point of locking up the brakes, much easier and safer. I used ABS to improve my braking skills, if you don't practice at finding the limit, you cannot improve your braking skills. Locking up rear ABS is easy, NOT locking it up takes a lot more practice. I consider use of rear brake vital to maximize control and minimizing braking distance.I'm just shocked that so many people use the rear brake to the point where ABS kicks in.
I guess I worded my last statement incorrectly.
I'm surprised people use the rear brake at all. I haven't used mine on any of the bikes I've owned.

@jjm In what way are the tubes misaligned?
An easy test for axle/fork bottom alignment is to install the axle into the fork bottoms without the wheel. If it's a little off in length you can adjust one of the upper tubes in the triple clamp so the fork bottoms are the same 'height'. It makes us feel better, and installs go easier, but in reality, a small differential in length is no big deal as the longer of the two fork tubes just gets a hair more preload than the other.
As piotrek pointed out, the right side fork bottom can move left/right. The no-wheel axle install test should highlight any tendency for bind.
The handlebars are tilted to the left (the right side being farther from the tank than the right) while the bike is tracking straight.

Have you dropped the bike, or could your bars be bent from something else? Also, are your risers straight? If they aren't, your bars won't be aligned with the forks. I was shocked when I replaced my bars to find that my right riser was so loose that I could turn it by hand.So then how do we align the forks/bars?
Mine are still a bit off despite my efforts to align them.
Haven't dropped it. They've been slightly crooked since I brought it home from the dealer with .3 miles on it.
Not sure about the risers as I haven't messed with them. I did follow some steps that were given to try to straighten them out which involved loosening the lower axle pinch bolt and the upper fork clamps followed by a couple of bounces. Still crooked.

But... (and it's a big but) loosening the axle, pinch bolt, etc has NO effect on fork alignment on a fork of this design. There, I said it. This whole 'bouncing thing' is from the days of 'conventional' forks with twin pinch bolts on each fork bottom, (such as an FJR or Honda ST1300) not upside-down forks with the type of axle that the FJ has. Look at the axle closely; it's a shouldered bolt with an integral nut that has no option of position -it's either tight or it's not. It's so idiot proof, even I can do it. You can leave it loose, bounce the front end, but as soon as you tighten the axle, the fork tubes are going to move (or not) to their 'installed' position -there's nothing you can do to change that. The single pinch bolt on the right leg is merely a safety-pin to keep the axle from turning out "just in case".That is the part that I am confused about. When I do this procedure, I don't remove or even loosen the axle, therefore it would be impossible to alter the wheel/ABS sensor alignment. All I am doing is effectively extending or compressing each fork leg by a few millimeters. Now, if I remove the wheel for any reason, I always use the procedure that Bruce described.
If it makes you feel better to bounce the front end with all the bolts and the axle loose, by all means, enjoy. But your efforts will be for naught as soon as you tighten the axle.
So then how do we align the forks/bars?
Mine are still a bit off despite my efforts to align them.

Well after an almost 800 mile ride this past weekend, I changed the oil at 1000 miles. Also found out that I need to angle my DIY windscreen back a bit as the air is hitting just under my helmet and causing noise. Should be an easy fix.
-
Some may say I"m nit picking but within a year of installing the orange ones they have faded to the point of looking almost white. Let me add my bike is stored indoors and I work a midnight shift so bike only sees sunlight on weekend rides and 30 min commute home from work in the morning. As far as function no issues at all. I did feel more visible especially at night.
I have since taken off my hand guards for better high speed stability on the freeway around large vehicles.
Mine sits outside in the sun so I guess I'll find out how "fast" they can fade haha

I was thinking about that as a project that would be too big to undertake any time soon. Now you may have cost me lot of hours and cash, since this seems just right and very much possible... So... Thanks, I guess?May I make a suggestion if you need a lot of switches?
Feniex 4200 mini controller. It's waterproof too
You're welcome.
Haha it also comes with a ram style ball mount so all you'd have to supply is the actual u-bolt that goes around your handle bars. It works really well. Just put one in my truck to activate LED pod lights. Super easy to install.
If I had more lights on my bike or atv I would not hesitate to use this item for those as well.

A little bit of back log here, starting at this point:
I first rode the bike about four weeks ago, and could hardly think about anything else, my only real complaint was the buffeting from the stock screen that made me unable to hear the engine.
Four days later, it was time to deliver it for the 1000 km initial service, and while it was there they added the large OEM top box (great product, nice to have the same key for ignition and luggage, and to be able to quickly remove it when I want to ride without or take the whole thing up to my hotel room).
They also attached this bad boy.
Yes, those are open Akrapovic pipes. Now I could hear the engine again over the wind induced noise, but ear plugs are absolutely necessary. Also, I tend to leave a trail of annoyed car alarms.
After that I mounted white Dzell knuckle guard lights with blinker modules (but still have not got the right connectors so no light yet...) and a Puig racing screen. The turbulence now hits my shoulders (I'm 193, that's 6'4 for the metrically challenged), and it's quiet again. Since I will be doing more city riding and I will be able to hear the engine again, I guess it makes sense for me to insert the muffler...
Now I am thinking about the following:
Light and appearance
[ul type=disc][*]OEM LED Flashers Plus Front or Custom LED Universal LED Flushmount Blinker [*]Custom LED BlasterX tail light[*]Powerbronze tail tidy, removing rear blinkers, I guess. (The alternative is the OEM rear blinkers with running and break lights, but not sure if it will look good or just stupid.)
[*] The poser in me also wants this but in all black or the bike's grey, backlit when ignition is on and engine is off: YAMAHA MT09 TRACER FRONT WINDSCREEN BRACKET [/ul]
Protection
[ul type=disc][*]OEM Engine protectors[*]Powerbronze Belly Pan[*]A radiator cover, not decided which yet[/ul]
Comfort[ul type=disc][*]OEM Heated Grips, ordered, should be on the bike in a couple of weeks
[*]OEM Passenger Backrest, same[*]More screens for various conditions... thinking about the short Powerbronze screen (I like the look) plus a really large touring screen
[*]A seat, a seat, my kingdom for a seat (that doesn't make me unable to walk after a couple of days of hard riding). But I have no clue which, most of them seem to lower the seat height, which for me is not a good idea.
[/ul]
Other
[ul type=disc][*]The Garmin VIRB XE is arriving today... so more adventure documentation!
[*]I assume I will be tempted to add more silly stuff
[*]Maybe a horn, but I want to be able to both beep and BOOOOOOOOOOP, so it will have a separate button.[*]Fog lights? May happen.[*]GPS tracker.[*]Tank bag(s).
[*]OEM Side Cases may happen if I decide to go on a long trip next year.
[*]A twenty button bespoke switch panel to control all my farkles.
[/ul]
[ul type=disc]

Thanks, I am going hunting for that Yellow/brown wire. So where do I put the Red wire from the relay to low beam? Its hotter that Hates in the garage!
If it's for power then run it to the battery.

Anyone in the US have Matt gray with the blue folk tubes? Or is that a unicorn?
I think those are only available overseas? Mine has gold forks.

McAllen/Rio Grande City, TX
As about as far south as you can get!

Made my own. Had it up to 80 mph with no complaints. No strong pressure that causes fatigue. I'm coming off of a Harley sportster that didn't have one. I had to literally hold on to the bars to keep the wind from pushing me off.
-
QR?? Please explain..Seriously? Is it QR? If it is, take it off until you need it!
QR = quick release

I've decided to wire mine to only be used as turn signals. Not really liking how they look constantly on.
-
Adjust chain tension, attempted to install the vista cruise throttle lock, and installed the knuckle guard lights in amber. Not sure if I'm sold on em yet.
-
Dammit... they aren't available any more
Amber are available. Search for this item number on eBay: 172204004944

Just received my kit. It came with red washers instead of gold. Bummer. Had to paint them black.
-
Any new feelings about these? I'm thinking I might order them. Appreciate the photos and reviews guys!
-
I cleaned the exhaust for the first time.
Look nice. How'd you do it?
What Helmet do you ride in?
