  1. Yes, that would be the one. I am 6' and I needed to be at least a couple inches shorter for it to work well for me so I sold it. Just installed a Madstad 20" screen yesterday and went for a ride. Seems to work really well, no buffeting like the stocker or the VStream. I might still mess with the angle and height but I think it's a keeper. 56054977158_99_AFA4_DB-_CBFC-4569-9_A3_E-_AC3_F70_D4890_C.jpg

Same setup as mine. All the way up and cocked forward works best for me. Seems to push the air up a little higher.

  2. You should use separated pipe clamp on each fork and point it out so it clear the fender.Something like that but bigger

OK here is the next iteration. Thinking about ditching the bar altogether and mounting each light to each fork clamp. Don't nobody worry about where they are aimed at since I haven't gotten that far yet.

Here's the final. Mounted them directly to the fork clamps. No bar is certainly better. Have to wire them up and see how they work. I know they put out a good amount of light.

  4. What do you think of this aux light setup? I could bring them in narrower and/or up or down a little.

So Patonme is correct. That’s not going to work. Look at the forks and realize the front fender tire will travel as high as the exposed silver fork piston has room to travel. As a guy with a cracked front fender from not taking that clearance into account, your setup is definitely not going to work.

Aha missed that obvious one. I'll try with the bar up high bring the lights in and hang them off the bottom of the bar next. Just playing around with a lightbar a guy had on a Vstrom.

  5. Exactly! Which makes this accessory the toughest of all to choose. I'm okay with wind being present (not trying to turn it into a Goldwing), it's just a question of directing it away from the head and shoulder area that's the holy grail we look for.
@joeldude and @patkin - I know the Madstad is well-engineered, got the best reviews and guess it's the only fully adjustable aftermarket one, but that design and size are a deal-breaker for me. It's overbearing size looks like a riot shield on the bike (and the fact that the FJ has this narrow, pointy front end doesn't help) so it's not my 1st choice right now.

I'll take function over something that just looks "cool" anyday course I'm 64 yo and definitely beyond the "cool" days anyway lol.

No way you're going to get the air over your head with anything shorter or being able to change the angle more upright.

Hope you don't spend too much $$ in your quest.

  6. My Fj09 friends, So far anything stock or named Yamaha has not been of much value to us Riders, just a Barn Door effect windshields which really do nothing but block the wind at lower speeds will all Buffett at higher speeds all of them. My firm recommendation is to use the "Madstad" windshield and it is the only one which directs the airflow beneath the windshield and above the windshield and can be directed over your head, it is not a barn door style windshield it is a aerodynamic design piece of technology that I will vouch for does work and there is no buffeting up to 100 miles an hour.

I agree totally. Mine works so well. I found the best position for me is all the way up and forward. That will deflect the airstream up and over your helmet. I'm 5'8" and bought the 20" shield and can see over the top no problem. Clean air and no buffetting at 80 mph go buy it.

  7. Now if mine came with the pretty blue finish that comes on the Euro bikes I wouldn't have had to cover them up.  8-)
I very rarely respond to posts like this that are so clearly highly subjective - but I gotta say that personally I greatly dislike the blue finished forks.   The colour appears to be very unbike-like to me!   But... FWIW and as always YMMV... :(
Me thinks they would look stunning on my 17 model blue one.
I'd even take the blue wheels to go with it.
  8. I too have been considering a Black Widow exhaust but the low 400mm unit (http://www.blackwidowexhausts.co.uk/fz09-fz-09-tracer-2013-2017-low-level-de-cat-exhaust-system-with-400mm-oval-carbon-fibre-silencer--carbon-tip-14642-p.asp) because to the human ear every 10db increase equates to 10 times louder. So at idle your'e 10 times louder than OEM, less so apparently at say 8, 000 rpm. Maybe the 350mm would be OK...http://www.blackwidowexhausts.co.uk/fz09-fz-09-tracer-2013-2017-low-level-de-cat-exhaust-system-with-300mm-oval-carbon-fibre-silencer--carbon-tip-14614-p.asp
Afraid you've got the understanding a bit off on the decibel effect. For every increase of 10dB on the scale is equivalent to a 10-fold increase in sound intensity (which broadly corresponds with a doubling in loudness). Sound intensity is not the same as what is being perceived by the human ear.

This system is by no means obnoxious even inside the garage. Now if my ear was down by where that meter was positioned then yes but if the bike was outside I don't see me getting any complaints from anyone.

I think the 350mm can would stick out about 2 inches further which I wouldn't care for.

  9. OK guys got the exhaust in today and got it installed. The build quality is very nice. The instructions were pretty good. You need to fit the header pipes to the collector before installing on your bike. The video does not do enough justice as to the quality of the sound. It is much deeper sounding live. It's really not that much louder as you can see by the readings.
