  1. Talked to Magura USA today about a setup for the Tracer GT.  They have a note on the item that it doesn't work with the GT, but no detail.

After talking to the tech for a while, we thought it might be about safety switches for the cruise control.  Anybody put one of these on the Tracer GT and have an first hand experience?  Not looking for supposition from someone who has not done the direct install on a Tracer GT.

    Thanks-

As I suffer from OCD (😉) I had to ask the local dealer if the reversal of the risers would be possible. According to his response by email, this is not allowed/adviced. I have yet to ask him why, but I will hold back on the reversal.

You can rotate the riser portion and change the distance to the rider, you can also change the top clamp with zero affect to anything other than moving the projection out of the way.

Perhaps your dealer is misunderstanding your question...

Very interesting, this!   What effect does the 'bar reversal have on reach, etc?   I'd like to try this as I note a long-standing shoulder injury (bursitis) creeping back, and I'm ready to blame the fact that 'bar width on the GT is appreciably less than Gen1 Tracers - by about 5" IIRC - and I did like to stance to the 'bars then, very reminiscent of that on my late GS.   If trying this, would my back be more or less upright?   I'll appreciate input from those who have gone before...

Zero effect on the position of the bars since this just rotates the top clamp 180 degrees.

Coincidentally, I have finished design work on a bar riser for the FJ-09 / Tracer GT that I am producing here in Upstate NY.  When anodized, it will be a good match for the stock bar clamps.  Will post some pix when they are back from the anodizer.

    Raw final prototype here:

Well, after three days of polishing, waxing, armor all-ing, and RRR of the headlight/instrument bracket, the bike looks practically new again except for a few love marks from the various roads and bugs that decided to leave their permanent mark.  The new RS IIIs feel great and the bike is ready for the next adventure.  Unfortunately, this will be with a new owner as I have made the move to an adventure bike while I am still young (49) and strong enough to handle such fun (or frustration).   This was a fun bike to ride and it re-inspired me to enjoy motorcycling again after suffering through a boring sport bike for a few years.  I managed to complete the Lake Superior Circle tour and also a 3250 mile trip to Boise Id. and back in nine days last year with the bike performing the solo runs flawlessly.  Life has changed for me and I have chosen to seek adventure in my own backyard (state) with a few select out-of-state rides here and there.  I have also joined an adventure riding group to be around more like-minded people as I miss the camaraderie of group rides.   An interested buyer has offered $5K for my 2016 with 19,850mi. with the tall touring V-Stream windscreen, Givi crash bars, Fz-6 rubberized foot pegs, new tires, new-ish chain, Beak, and pre-wired for GPS/phone.

Which ADV bike have you decided on?

I have to fill my glass more towards the top. If I don't the idiot light comes on going down the road.

Right you are, Sir.  Indeed, about 3 miles into my RTW, I got some lights.  Went off about a minute later heading up a hill.  Will top up when I get home.  Surprised that between the hash marks is not enough...

    Definitely got my attention.

  6. I have been riding for the last three days with the prototype setup.  All is good and movement and vibration is minimal.   The movement is in the entire rubber-mounted windshield assembly, not the GPS mount.

Latest version of the GPS mount as seen through the windshield.  This is mounted to a Zumo 550 cradle.  The mount has standard AMPs bolt pattern, so it will mate with most every GPS cradle or mounting system out there.  Set up for a cross bar that is 12mm or .5 inch.  Pretty standard cross bar size.  Same as the GPS mount on my Givi mount on the VStrom, windshield frame on the Africa Twin, windshield stay on the GS and many others.   Final tweaks being made, bolts being procured, etc.
