Me again, more questions than a five year old. Your setup seems more professional and solid. You mentioned you bought a Garmin Drive 51LM but the cradle is for a Garmin Nuvi 50. Just wanted to make sure on the cradle before I order. Thanks.

Correct.  I modified it with a Dremel tool to fit, the power buttons are in different locations, so I had to cut a hole to fit.  It is very stable and I have used the modified cradle for 2 seasons with zero issues.

Got the cradle and the ball in the mail. Did you Mcgyver the cradle just so the power cord could plug or did you also do it for the little round power button on the back also?

I used this diamond ball mount on the back of the cradle I linked previously.

Yes, and it is relatively inexpensive.  You need a cradle for your specific model and a diamond ball base to attach to the swivel arm.

Note that cradles are not made for every GPS model and most models of the older Nuvi's have rounded corners and the newer Drive models have square corners.  I have several GPS units, Nuvi205, Nuvi 50, 2x Nuvi 55's and a newer Drive 51, I had to slightly modify the cradle with a Dremel tool when I bought the newer model to get it to fit.

Buy Ram Mount Model Specific Cradle for the Garmin nuvi 50 and 50LM:...

Thanks again. I just bought the exact GPS online for a great price. After searching for a while this seems like the easiest way. Does the back of your gps allow the Garmin Ball"?

Yes, it is the Garmin Drive 51, the basic model, attached with a ram mount hardwired to the 12v switched outlet behind the screen.  During a black friday or cyber monday sale they can be found for around $100, the motorcycle specific Zumo series are over $600.

Thanks, is there anything you have to do with a car specific GPS to mount the ram ball to the GPS? I was planning on getting this to mount it.

I am not huge into bling or decorative (carbon fiber or anodized billet aluminum) pieces but I did add a few silver accent stripes just to make it a little unique and add some contrast.

I did the same thing with my white 2017 FJ-09 the strips are gold since that matches the fairing. It was the first thing I did other than the beak. It was the two things that finished the flow of the bike, for me anyway.

I mounted my GPS above the gauges and behind the screen for better line of sight and weather protection.

Is that a GPS for a car? If so how did you mount it with a ram ball? I just use my phone now and literally have a sandwich bag if it starts to rain. It's only when I do a few trips each year that i need a GPS and did not want to spend the crazy prices they want for the motorcycle specific ones.

she may see the occasional dirt road, but nothing much more than that. i do plan on getting a skid plate for the exposed oil pan though.

That was fixed in the 2017 model so if the occasional dirt road is all you're going to do I wouldn't bother.

  8. Came across this whilst trawling another forum:
    https://www.amazon.it/CUPOLINO-CHIARO-2015-16-spessore-cod-28435/dp/B01MQVA066

Apparently made by an Italian company called FACO.  Google translate on the above page shows very favorable reviews and the price seems very reasonable compared to other offerings.  I also found it here for only €45: https://tinyurl.com/y88oehlf

    Anyone on here tried it?

Tried to buy it but won't ship to Canada. Looked like a good deal with great reviews.
