Hi everyone, new on the forums here.  Just picked up a 2019 Tracer 900 GT.  I'll have to do an introduction thread soon, but in the meantime something in the manual caught my eye and wanted to run it past you all...

The DC outlet on the left side of the headlight...the manual says don't exceed  24W (2A).

Every time I find a decent charger for my phone and want to stay under the manuals limits, say a 18W charger, it's always over 2 Amps.

I don't want to be blowing fuses, so can you guys tell me what you have successfully plugged in for long distances without any issues?

I can't seem to fine any 2 Amp chargers worth buying.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    - Paul

Burned the fuse as soon as I connected my 40W heated vest. Replaced with 5A and all is OK.

To be honest it is with in .5mph or my GPS.  1/2 the time they match and the other half they are 1 mph off.  Going down the road on cruise control they switch back and forth quite often.  Before these tires, I ran Dunlops, Bridgestones, PR-2, PR-3, PR-4s and now these Road 5s.  All the other would show a 2-3 mph difference in speed.

That is interesting, I would never expect a same size tire of different brand/make to be that larger. Is your Road 5 tire 120/70-17 in size?

I installed Michelin Road 5 tires and because of their profile, it corrected the Speedo error.  Don't waste money on a gizmo.  Buy a good tire, as in Road 5s.

If the tire was to correct the speed reading, it would have to have 9% larger circumference than OEM...

  4. Similarly as others commented, I got used to the OEM seat, mind you, I lowered its rear by shortening the rubber bumpers by about 7 mm. This seat in combination with rather backwards positioned foot pegs actually makes sense. If nothing, it is fairly forgiving for the men's reproductive organs...😁

  5. I guess, I will never have high speed wobble as I never go over 120 km/h 😁. However I experienced similar problem after I hit a bad pothole. After that I got handlebars wobble around 70 km/h only. Checked the bike front and rear, no damage/bend to rims. Interestingly the problem kind of "healed" itself, after I rebalanced front wheel and found it needed additional 15 gr weight, next to existing 30 gr. The tires have 3500 kms on them.

  6. As I mentioned elsewhere, the fuel gauge and consumption readings are about 10%+ inaccurate/optimistic. Meaning with 4 l/100kms indicated the actual is 4.4 and when display indicates 10 liters of fuel used, the actual is more like 11.5 used. I wish it was correctable through ECU by dealer...

I think you are mixing up 10k km with 6k miles. Mine printed manual states both

No, I am not, exactly as I stated. The downloaded version I have is for MTT850D, 1st edition from January 2018. The printed version is for MTT09DK from March 2018. As per pictures and description identical Tracer GT bikes.

I have a GT and a '16 Super Tenere that I bought new. The Tenere has better suspension, much smoother ride on rough roads and more adjustments to accommodate loads and conditions, also 2 inches more travel front and rear.

How is the ST for overall riding comfort. Seating position, leg room, is it much higher than GT to reach the ground? I was seriously looking into ST, but then I sold my 2016 Africa Twin last February and being "bikeless" I bought the GT without test riding it, based on reviews, features and mainly the weight. I am 72 so handling a heavy bike might be an issue.

Proper spring rate is important but the important part is the internal valving, it can make or break the way a bike rides and handles.  I once asked a suspension builder what was so special about Ohlins suspension, he said "bling and marketing, - ANYONE can make suspension that rides like Ohlins, - the magic is the internals!".

I live near Riverglade, NB motocross race track and there is a local guy here who does suspensions, I understand  mostly for dirt bikes and quads. Will talk to him and see if he can help me somehow...

  10. I wonder if somebody could compare the GT or Tracer/FJ vs Super Tenere suspension in terms of softness/handling on rough roads. Some 90% of my riding is on secondary backroads where the pavement is usually very rough, lots of frost heaves and poorly repaired potholes. I do enjoy the GT, but the suspension, both front and rear is killing me.

However regarding your gps it’s the tft display that’s interfering with it, see my post sat nav mount sorted and the link to some photographs of how I have resolved the issue.

I have repositioned my Oregon gps, it is installed now horizontally about 1" above handlebars clamp. No more interference, full signal.

  12. Just wanted to reconfirm that with milleage the whine is diminishing. I have now close to 3k kms on the bike and past the first oil change. I can still hear the whine in 6th, it is now limited to about 80 to 95 km/h range (going by gps) only under load and it doesn't bother me any more. So for me the problem is solved.

^^^Exactly This^^^   Here are some of the benefits - listed on 2WDW website

    – Disable Injector Decel Cut
    – Professional fuel map modification to suit stock exhaust
    – Removal of all gear based or speed dependent restrictions, TRE
    – Optimized timing maps for 91+ octane
    – Disable AIS valve (always closed)
    – Reduce Fan Temps 205°F
    – Speedometer Calibration
    – Default to A-mode (If requested)
    – ECU Based Quickshifter

I think the speedometer calibration and improved quickshifter would be the only items of interest to me... I wonder if speedometer could be adjusted by some standalone method.

Thanks for the link to these pegs. I looked at the auction, and they mention there being interlocking teeth to hold them in position, but the photos don't show them. Can you tell me if they actually have the locking teeth, or if they're just held in place by bolt tension?

There are interlocking pins on the joint where you adjust the peg position/angle. The other joint is just a bolt tension. I used a bit of thread locker on both joints and they hold just fine
