The 30L top case arrived a few days ago. As mentioned before it will be going on a FZ09 if it doesn't fit my bike.

Well, we didn't know it requires a separate bracket to mount to the FZ09 so it is now ordered and should arrive on Tuesday 9/17.

So far it does fit the OEM Tracer 900 rear rack but it does not have the rear latch like the 39L or 50L cases. I'm hoping the bracket for the FZ09 will also fit the Tracer 900. If not, it wouldn't be difficult to fabricate one. Basically it is an aluminum plate with a threaded hole that a threaded knob screws into from inside the 30L case. Not as quick to remove as the latch, but not a big deal either.

I will update and add some photos if it fits later next week.

IT FITS!   The mounting plate for the FZ09 works on the Tracer 900 rear rack. I will take some photos and add some part numbers later.

Some might ask "why would you want the 30L case and not the 39L?"...

    1. 39L cases are backordered

    2. 30L case is available!

    3. 30L case looks good on the bike (not saying the 39L doesn't)

    4. 30L case is less than 1/2 the cost of the 39L case.

    Thanks,

    Dan

  3. The OEM 39L top cases are on backorder. The 50L top case is bigger than I want. Yamaha has a 30L top case that is compatible with the FZ-09 and MT-10 and a few other bikes... the FZ-09 rack will also accept the 39L top case so common sense would say that the 30L would probably also fit the tracer rear rack... right? Does anyone know if it will work or not? I'm talking straight mount to rear rack, no adapters, etc. Are there any aftermarket cases that will fit the OEM rear rack without adapters or mods?

    Thanks,

    Dan

Thanks, I just ordered one. I checked Amazon a week or so ago and none were available.

I ordered the one on Amazon from the seller named Boating Accessories. It never shipped and they didn't contact me to let me know it wasn't available! Beware of this seller on Amazon!

I guess I'll just get one backordered.

    Shows available on Amazon. $228.02

I have both. The 50l is huge and looks a bit out of place. Can hold 2 full face helmets. I made a plate to mount it on my ST1100.

The 39l looks better and unless you have a giant laptop, should work to haul it.

Thanks, I just ordered one. I checked Amazon a week or so ago and none were available.

  6. I had fork mounted leds on my '12 V-Strom and then on the engine guards on my '14 Strom. I haven't added them to my Tracer yet, but I'm considering it. AdventureTech is in the works on a led mount kit similar to the one they make for the FJ. I'll see how that turns out and then decide where I want to mount my leds.

  7. I haven't added LEDs to my Tracer yet but I had some 2" 10w Cree lights mounted on the bracket that held the front fender to the forks on my 2012 V-Strom. I never had any issues at all and they really lit up the road. They were too bright to use anywhere in traffic when pointed straight ahead. I offset them about 5* to each side and just a couple of degrees down. This did not bother oncoming traffic and I still had a HUGE improvement in visibility, especially ditches and treelines where  critters like to appear from at night. Hope this helps.

I would think that any tuner would insist on protecting their investment.  Knowing human nature, if its unlocked and free to steal, someone will just take it and give it away to their riding buddy.

I understand what you mean. I offer some items that are 3d printed and I have been asked if I offer the file for sale so they can print their own. The answer of course is no.

Ivan may have his flash protected in some other way, it's his software so he would be the one to ask.

It isn't licensing. There are two reasons why they lock your ecu.

First, to protect their canned tunes. If they don't lock them, someone can download your tune and chuck it on other bikes.

Other reason is if you need adjustments in future, you're locked in to using the same tuner.

Looking at Ivan's site, it looks like he doesn't adjust the qs cuts, nor offer downshift auto blips on older models which other software can offer.

When I mentioned licensing, I simply meant that the flash is written to the specific serial # of the ecu and can't be copied to others. I might have used the wrong terminology but I think we're on the same page.

One of the reasons I chose is because I don't want to be locked into using the same tuner or having to buy a new ecu so I could use another tuner. I've had tuners in the past that did a poor job on Power Commander tunes, I would have hated to be "locked" into using them. I'm sure there are other good tuners, but I've always had good results with Ivan.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe there is provision for tuning quickfhift cuts for the GT yet. Do you know what software Ivan uses?

Ivan has his own software which is one of the reasons I chose to use his service. He does not password protect the ECU when flashed. I've been told other tuners usually use password protection for licensing reasons from Flashtune, Woolich, etc.

I am with @runnerhiker on down QS.  I am riding a rental Multistrada at the moment on holidays and the all gears up and down QS is magic in the hills.

My KTM has a Rekluse so I can see where the up/down would be nice at times but mostly for off road rides. I might ask Ivan about it.

It feels to me that the qs works a little smoother with Ivan's ecu flash or maybe it's just the "placebo effect" ?

I am very interested in the cruise control mod where it works in all gears.  What about modifying the quick shifter to work on downshifts also? Does anybody know if this is possible?  Or done by Ivan or anyone else?

I haven't tried to downshift with the quick shifter and I don't see a need for it... just my opinion. You could ask Ivan about it.

  12. Sorry if this has been covered already...

All posts I found for 15t front sprocket were for FJ-09's. The new Tracers have a longer swingarm than the FJ (2.4" or 6cm longer). I have ridden a '16 model FJ09 and the front wheel would float up with a little effort on the throttle, my new Tracer seems more tame in comparison and I'm certain the longer swingarm plays a big part in that result. I was wondering if anyone has switched the front sprocket from the factory 16t to a 15t ?  I've went one tooth down in the front on bikes in the past and the result usually put a big stupid grin above my chin.

  13. The ECU flash from Ivan's Performance did not disappoint!

I re-installed my ECU this weekend and although I didn't get to ride as much as planned I did get a few hundred miles in. I paid close attention to how the bike performed at all speeds and functions as best as I could before I got the ECU flash and then did the same after the ECU flash. I did not do any top speed tests or run each gear to redline or anything of that nature but I did ride aggressively at times, though I wasn't trying to outrun any MotoGP racers.

    Here are my observations...

The bike feels smoother now in all rpm ranges, noticeably smoother. If you think you're happy with the bike as it is from the showroom don't ride one that has Ivan's flash, it will change your opinion.

I can easily stroll through low speed areas (25-35 mph) without the bike feeling like it is searching for the correct fueling. Before the ECU flash the bike ran almost like it had bad gas when trying to maintain a steady low speed (2nd or 3rd gear in school zones, downtown areas, etc). You may not notice this much with the stock exhaust, but with a aftermarket pipe you will hear and feel this much more.

The throttle cut is no longer an issue. I tried like hell to feel a throttle jerk and I failed miserably (yeah!)

Normally my hands get numb after about 30-45 minutes, I rode 1.5 hours straight with no issues.

Cruise control now works in every gear which is nice when cruising through state parks and other long stretches of low speed areas. (oem settings for cruise only work in 4th, 5th and 6th gear)

I did not try using cruise control over 100 mph yet, but I'm sure it would work fine. Did someone say Autobahn??

Other than the ECU flash, the only other engine/performance mod I have done is a full exhaust. I rode with the baffle/db killer installed, have not ridden with it removed yet (very loud). I will probably try it soon just to see if there's any noticeable differences.

I highly recommend Ivan's ECU flash. I believe he is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable tuners available. I was willing to pay the extra $ for his services. I have nothing against other tuners, I just have no experience with them and don't know how knowledgeable they are . Ivan has been around a while and he has never steered me wrong. This was not my first time purchasing from Ivan and I doubt it's the last time. I have never met the guy in person but he was very polite and answered all my questions and concerns.

I hope this is helpful, feel free to ask questions and keep the rubber side down,

TorqWrench…..please post a new thread with your thought on Ivans flash for the GT once you have had the opportunity to road test.

I will be picking it up tomorrow at my local FedEx hub. Due to the flooding in my area, I'm not sure that FedEx would deliver to me. I should have it back on the bike tomorrow afternoon and do some road testing this weekend. I will do a post with my thoughts soon after.

  16. Hello everyone,

I've had my 900GT for about a month now. Here are my mods so far...

Puig short windscreen - less turbulence but sill noisy around my helmet

Proton 500 led turn signals from High Speed Tech - VERY bright!, love 'em. Installed on front and rear. Wire was too short on rear so I used a y-splitter from Custom LED to make up the difference. I could have spliced in some wire but I like the oem plugnplay convenience.

R&G fender elminator (tail tidy) - nicely made but I wish Vagabond made one for this bike

Black Widow 300mm oval exhaust, full system - sounds great with or without db killer. a little too loud (imo) with db killer out. Works with centerstand in place.

T-Rex racing radiator guard - works fine

Ram ball mount on handlebar clamp

Fuel tank mount for SW Motech Ion tank bags

Brake light flasher/modulator from Custom LED - works great

LED flasher relay from Custom LED - works great

    Removed the "Tracer" logo

R&G footstand enlarger - works great, use them on my last 3 bikes, prevent sinking into hot pavement or soft ground

ECU flash in progress - mailed it in to Ivan's performance, should have it back in a day or two.

Morimoto Pindicators running light/turn signals - to be added very soon, will use y-splitters and custom 3d printed mounts to place them on the forks. These little guys are bright.

That's it for now. Will hopefully find a better solution for the windscreen, I am currently working on my own mod so I'll see how this goes. Might try a Seat Concepts seat once it is available, or maybe another brand.

Thanks and keep the rubber side down,

    Dan
