  1. That makes sense. I've been waiting for whatever that electrical power on sound is to stop (I thought it was the fuel pump) before trying to turn it over. But I have NOT been waiting for the screen to fully boot. I had last taken it out about 6 hours ago, and I just went out there and waited for the screen to fully boot, and it fired up absolutely fine. I'll try it again tomorrow morning once it's sat a little longer, waiting a little longer before turning it over. Thanks for the heads up team.

I've had my new Tracer for about three weeks now (about 200 miles total) and I've been observing that it takes about 2-3 seconds of starter for the engine to come to life when the bike has been sitting overnight, and even them I sometimes I have to hit the starter a second time. The bike doesn't do this when warm. it starts right up without issue. I haven't noticed any other issues with how she runs. Is this normal or should I have it checked out?

  3. The copper red, or "Dull Yellowish Red Cocktail 4 (DYRC4)" as Yamaha calls it, has actually grown on me. I took the suggestion of kilo3 and have started adding some gold accents and it's really starting to look sharp. But if that really wasn't your thing, the panels come off SO easily and can be very easily plasti-dipped.

    Indeed. My previous experience with a Madstad screen on the Africa Twin showed that their sizing recommendations were just a tad on the short side, so I opted for the larger of their two recommendations for my 6'3" self. I really wanted to go with a tinted shield, but I thought that would throw off the looks too much. I'm happy with my choice from an aesthetics standpoint, but I haven't taken it out yet.

    It's inevitable. Anytime I take pictures in my garage, someone ALWAYS asks about that money pit in the corner. LOL. That, friend, is a Superlite Roadster from Race Car Replicas. It's a project that I started about 9 years ago and never completed. It runs, but still needs some work before I would consider it finished.

  6. Installed a set, front and rear, of 12oClockLabs Programmable Advanced Animated Turn Signals. Boy are these things cool! While I was at it, installed a Blaster-X brake light, but chose NOT to integrate the turn signals into it. And if that wasn't enough, the Madstad and Engage tank bag came in the mail today as well. It was like Christmas! Now I'm just waiting on the GPS mount.

  7. I've been using the XT on my 'wing for the past two months and it's pretty cool. I'm not saying it's irreplaceable, because many of its functions can be duplicated using your smart phone, but the fact that it's all packaged together makes for a very clean and easy to use product. My only two complaints thus far are the split keyboard (the buttons are made big enough to allow the use of gloves, but this limits the number of keyboard characters on the screen at one time), and the fact that it doesn't support speech recognition for address entry. This is a feature that is easily accomplished with modern smartphones and their assistant integration. I'm particularly fond of the Smart Notifications, and Alerts, as well as the Music/Navigation integration. The screen is brilliant. I have no problems seeing the screen in even the sunniest of days.

    I often use MRA to create my routes and then export/import them into Garmin Explore. The routes will then automatically sync to the GPS via the Garmin Drive smartphone app. Rather brilliant, and you don't have to ever remove the unit from the motorcycle.

As someone who currently rides a 'Wing and previously owned an FJR (2007), and just purchased a Tracer, I can say that the Wing is the most comfortable one of the bunch as long as you buy an aftermarket seat (the factory one is an embarrassment). The FJR is definitely sporty and great for touring, but I still found its screen to be on the small side. +1 for the shaft drive, though. Can't argue with that. But the Tracer so far wins for the most fun to ride. It doesn't have the comfort and wind protection of the Wing, or the shaft drive and fuel capacity of the FJR, but it puts the biggest smile on my face at the end of the day. Now, day 6? Hehe, maybe not. 

    Oh, almost forgot to add, +1 for Madstad as well. Great company and great product. Had one of their shields on an Africa Twin. It was fantastic. I love that it offers both height and angle adjustment.

  9. Greetings everyone. I've been perusing this forum for a couple of months now as I've been shopping for a Tracer. Decided to bite the bullet and not only join the forum, but also make my purchase of a new 2020 GT today. I had been negotiating with various dealers close by on both new and used 2019 non-GTs, but I guess they just weren't willing to let them go at a price that made sense not to upgrade to a new GT. I have to say I'm not completely sold on Yamaha's Reddish Copper, but it might grow on me over time. I much preferred the 2019 GT color, but I couldn't find any of those close by. I've ridden a number of bikes over the past 14 years, with my very first one being an FJR1300, if you can believe that. Much more bike than I needed and sold it within about a year. I rode a Burgman 650 for a few years before giving up riding altogether while rearing my two children. Now that they're older and well on their way, i decided to pick up riding again about 4 years ago and rode an Africa Twin for a while before finally moving on to the bike that I had wanted my entire life, a Gold Wing!. That bike has really spoiled me with its fancy dancy DCT transmissions and I've been missing the joy of shifting and hitting the curves on a lighter ride. So now I'm fortunate enough to have one for TRIPS and one for TRIPPIN' !!!
