  1. I ordered 2 screens, one is Puig 35 CM in dark smoke short screen. Another one is Givi KD2121S smoke tint, this is much larger screen. Puig will be here this weekend. Givi is coming from Italy. Givi sent tracking about week ago hopefully it will show up soon. Once I receive it I will post my personal opinion on both.

I was out on a run yesterday 250 plus miles and my pillion complained that the wind noise was the worst she had encountered on any bike as pillion .I decided to the remove the gt screen and the wind noise for the pillion disappeared .

Did you replace it with different kind of windshield?

  3. Thanks for the excellent feed back. I do have the Clip on Windshield but doing 70-80 mph it shakes so bad, that my OEM windshield cracked tad bit. If I take the clip on off buffeting is so bad,  I can't even hear myself talking. When I do stand up on the pegs noise disappears. I think I will order  Give KD2121S as per jetpilot5's suggestion. I will up date once I receive the new windshield.

  4. I have Helite Mesh Jacket  and Hit Air Vest love both of them. Use to have the Helite Vest hit a deer on Blue ridge parkway total my HD and I walked away scratch free. It is simply the best investment for any rider. If this airbag jeans every becomes production I will buy one regardless of its price.

  5. Let me chime in, I have 2019 Niken GT and my previous bikes were BMW R1200 GSA and HD Ultra Limited yes I have dropped both BMW and HD. It was much easier to pick up BMW then HD. As far as Niken my brother and I lay the Niken down in my garage. I want to see if I can pick the bike up by myself. Bike was fully loaded with fuel camping gear everything I need for 6 week trip. Of-course I put layers of protection so there won't be any damage. As compare to BMW, Niken was bit easy to pick up mostly because it has 3 contact points to the ground once its up. Reason for this exercise, I am planning trip to Alaska, I want make sure I can pick this thing up fully loaded. In 2019 I did cross country trip on my BMW one of the photo stops on CA highway 1 wind blow the  bike over. Bike was fully loaded I couldn't pickup, had to unload everything then was able to.

These engines don't burn down or suffer any ill effects from using 87 octane.  If they did you'd see threads and pictures of destroyed engines and burnt pistons.  Where are the dead engines?  There are none.

If your engine doesn't knock, then you don't need higher octane, regardless of what the owners manual says.  It's that simple.

And high octane gasoline doesn't help your engine last any longer.  Not one mile longer.  If there's no knocking then you're getting a normal combustion event.

I've got 13,000 miles on my FJ-09, mostly using 87 octane.  I use non-ethonol premium gasoline late season to run the ethanol out of the tank so it's ready for winter storage.

The added benefit of using 87 octane is that it saves me about $0.80 per gallon.  I can use that savings to buy premium beer instead.

Thanks for the reinsurance. I did use 87 on all of my BMW's and owner manual did say 91 is required. I am sure I will not have problem with Yamaha using 87. In spring I will test out using 87 just to make sure I don't hear any pinging. If I do hear it, I pack some octane booster.

So now my next challenge is trying to figure out a good mounting bracket to use on my incoming crash guards. Problem is, the crash guards aren't quite exactly horizontal or vertical. The one small part that is horizontal happens to be directly behind the front suspension forks so that's not ideal for auxiliary light position since part of the lights will be blocked by the shock tubes.

SW Motech crash bars are 27mm/1 inch diameter steel weighing about 4.5 lbs each. The mounting bolt for my auxiliary lights are 10mm (3/8 inch) in size, so the mounting bracket must have a mounting bolt hole this size.

If I try a horizontal bracket, it appears I'm forced to get some kind of adjustable bracket in order to try and make it work, however a good number of reviews of the adjustable brackets seem to indicate a high failure rate because of the movable design ex. PIAA L Mounts or Denali mounts.

If I try a vertical bracket, the only places I have a pseudo vertical bar don't generally have a long enough mounting bracket for my lights to clear the crash bars and aim them where I want them. If I had picked a smaller light then the clearance issues wouldn't have been a problem.

Looks like I'll have to wait to get the crash bars installed until I can figure out the right mounting bracket to use.

Very good idea - just wasn't sure if these  connectors were a proprietary kind specifically engineered for Baja Designs (which they do not appear to sell separately on their site).

I've never seen these kinds of connectors before. Anyone know the name for them?

Those are waterproof connectors. You can also get them from Amazon for cheap. What you can do is cut the middle out use the 2 ends so you can still have the connectors.

Did you get TPMS for your Niken? Which one did you get? I was going to ask Santa to get me one. I do have Garmin 395LM that I can pair with their TPMS, but after researching a bit found out, you have to have metal valve stem. I know my GT has plastic valve stem.

  10. Good evening you all, I am planning to ride my Niken GT from NJ to Alaska, if all goes as plan this summer. Question for you all,  have you used regular 87 octane on your bike? I am asking because on my cross country trip last year and year before, in some parts of the country you can only get 87 octane. You really had to look for specific gas station to find 91 octane. I never had to worry about this before because my BMW R1200 GSA only requires regular 87 octane gasoline, but Yamaha want 91 or better.  Since space is tight on the bike really don't want carry or try to look for octane booster while on the road.

Do you have pictures of your setup that you can share please? I need to see how you did it such that the lights don't bump into the wheels or suspension.

I will take some pictures tomorrow and post it here. Way it is mounted it doesn't bump into anything at all.
