Measure the resting voltage of your battery with a voltmeter and post the number here. Switch key on, count to 30 seconds and measure the number again (should be less), post the number here

replace (don’t clean) your spark plugs. Use stock plugs, not iridium.

what’s the outside temperature where your bike is stored? How old is the gas? When’s the last time that it ran?

    -Skip

I would say the temperature has nothing to do. I store it in a heated shed and the temperature is always around 15*Celsius (60*F).

As for the battery, I'll try with a new one and see... do you think one of those jump start kits would help?

Spark plugs: Could be that, but like I mentioned in the first post, the bike started after trying for a while... would I change them because they're flooded? How would they get damaged?

Gas: It's been there for a while, but I have started it every week, every 2 weeks with no issue. It also started once after changing the exhaust...

I have a feeling that if I bring it to the shop, they'll tell me it was something really stupid lol

I don't agree that it sounds flooded, it is firing.

Sounds sort of like an old carbureted engine trying to start up in the cold without choke.  Meaning too lean for the temp (you are in new england, right).  Oxygen sensor does have an impact on your mixture.  So does the back pressure of your exhaust of which you just drastically reduced.   I would try the old fashioned choke method if possible, put your hand over the air intake.  Or maybe even exhaust (I suggest something not directly connected to your nervous system for that one).

See if either of those make any difference.  What exhaust did you install?

What would you use for covering the air intake or the exhaust?

As for the exhaust, I was going to go for the Scorpion (you have to cut the original exhaust right next to the oxygen sensor), but instead decided to "build my own".

I welded a connection pipe and then attached and end pipe I found on Amazon...

In your video, the bike sounds flooded to me.

Charge your battery overnight. Make sure you didn’t disconnect the extra connector on the black wire that is down a bit from where it connects to the neg battery terminal. Make sure the terminal connections are tight and you haven’t accidentally installed the part of the plastic boot underneath the harness terminals.

Your buddy is right, Bike should start without the O2 sensor connected but this will turn on the FI light.

Follow the procedure in this post:

Do you mind sharing the post link? :D

Bike being flooded makes sense, at one point someone suggested opening the throttle while starting it... maybe made it worse... lol

    Thanks for your help Skip!

Did you unplug the o2 sensor from the wiring harness before you unbolted it so that the wire loom turned with the sensor?

If not you may have damaged the wires going into it.

If you did unplug it first then re-check that it's been plugged back in securely and fully.

    My two bobs worth FWIW.

PS if you'd been trying for 30mins I'd make sure that the battery gets a good recharge before trying again JIC it's now on the threshold of 'good' voltage for starting and running the bike.

    Good luck.

Actually... I didn't unplug it from the harness :X. Do you think it's the O2 sensor? Someone told me the bike should start even without it (according to him, the sensor only works once it's been on for a while...)

    Thank you for your help!

  6. Hello everyone! Long story short: I just changed the exhaust in my 2019 Tracer 900 and the bike won't start. I have uploaded this video so you can see exactly what happens and how it sounds:

Things worth mentioning, just in case it helps:

    - Forgot to plug the O2 sensor the first time I tried starting it.

    - After 30 minutes of trying, it started (yay). I left it on for 10 seconds, thinking I was all set, only to try after 15 minutes, and back to the same issue (boo).

Would the O2 sensor mistake have caused this issue? Flashing or updating the ECU would work? Could it be the starter?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Yes, ANY footpeg option for a Yamaha FJR (and other Yamaha motorcycles) will fit. And most come with the hardware as well. ONLY caution is you have to drill out the oem pin on one side. Do a search on this (excellent) website and it will be explained in detail.

This was one of the first things I did on my Tracer and also the FZ-10 I owned before. Well worth the time and a little money!👍

Same for the passenger pegs? Thank you!

Just wondering what the  consensus is on raising  the front of the seat to stop the continual slide forward. This is my biggest comfort issue as I'm sliding my rear back every five minutes on my Tracer.  Everything else seems well thought out..

In my case, the riding position is uncomfortable (for my back at least) when riding in the low position. I wish the tank was a bit taller so my belly could rest on it lol

  9. Hello everyone! I was just wondering; would it be possible to, somehow, increase the ground clearance on my Tracer 900? Besides adjusting the preload, what are my options? Changing the front fork and rear shock altogether? I saw a video on YouTube where some guy in india added 2 machined cilinders to the stock forks and raised the handlebar...

I'd love to turn it into a "proper adventure / trail bike" of sorts...

Thoughts and tips please? Thank you!
