About every six months, I check the prices of tires/tyres to see what changes are happening, and if I can discern any trends. With the supply chain broken, tires are the weakest link to any travel I'd like to do.

I also like to watch for rebates. What I feel is an overpriced tire at the normal price, can be a bargain when a rebate is applied. Michelin has a $50 rebate currently till March 7th. On March 8th, the Michelin tires will move from the middle of the list to the bottom where the most expensive tires are sorted. FWIW, in the past, Dunlop had a rebate starting around April I think and lasting through the summer. Continental has a rebate in May/June. What will happen this year, is unknown.

Tire prices below are for my BMW F800GT.  120/70-17 and 180/55-17.

It is worthwhile to shop around. I included prices from two sources this time. Dennis Kirk and Revzilla. I used to think all the online tire prices were the same. Not true. I purchased my last tires from Dennis Kirk at a nice discount from the Revzilla price.

My personal belief is that the tires on the chart above are very close in actual performance. The Owner Rating from Revzilla buyers is a reflection of what owners feel about the tire. The least expensive tires, seem to have a loyal following that like those tires. So buying a premium priced tire, doesn't necessarily mean you'll get any better performance.

One "bargain" I'm seeing is the Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE from Dennis Kirk. The Revzilla price makes it a very pricey tire. The Dennis Kirk price makes it a very tempting opportunity to buy a tire that is supposedly far better than the older model.

I feel like I just got a good deal but it's  from the Amaconn who I dumped a couple years ago because of their political beliefs and free speech suppression of Parler so I got a friend to check and he found this for 135 shipped. Hey, you got to save however you can these days.

There is a LOT of difference loudness-wise between the 2 end pipes, I have the Scorpion and it is noticeably deeper tone than stock but not appreciably louder, a buddy has the Competition Werks pipe and it is LOUD, after a short period it could easily be considered obnoxious or annoying.  Just my opinion.

Maybe try to hear one in the flesh before making it permanent.

I got the Baffle and  still had to wrap it but it's perfect for me now...  It's much better eye candy too...

I'm going to need some more pictures of that werks muffler setup :)

I used the stock header and painted it black because some surface rust was impossible to get off for me. It wasn't as hard to do as I thought but still took me about 4 hrs, not rushing it. I'll do some more pics

It LOOKS loud but photos can be deceiving...

Relative to stock how "bad" is it decibel wise?

It's very loud even if you get the $40 Baffle so I  wrapped it with fiberglass cloth and it's still loud but not too bad. It sounds great!

  5. I also enjoyed the write up Mark. Wow,what a first ride. I got my 2015 FJ-09 last July and my first ride was in 92° heat for about 100 miles. After about 20 minutes my right hand went numb and my butt hurt already. So I've fixed that stuff with a new Sargent seat and a ECU flash that totally transformed my bike, even fixed the handle bar vibration. I've done a lot to it, Galfer rotors, Competition Werkes Slip-on, K-Tech rear shock, Andreani cartridges in the front that I haven't installed yet.

Why didn't you just install the slip assist clutch?

Partshark.com has a complete kit including the hub, dampers, springs and plates for maybe less than what you paid for just the stock friction plates & springs from Partzilla...

Oh really. I'll check into that. The cheapest slipper clutch that I've found is $780 https://biohazardcycles.com/yoyodyne-t22503-mt09-slipper-clutch-kit-mt-09-fz09-14-21/

I purchased my 2015 fj-09 in July and from then I've put a BMC airfilter in and cut the snorkel half way up in the air intake box. Then replaced the seat, Sargent seat an the rear shock with a K-Tech and cut off the muffler and slipped on a Competition Werkes. Now I've replaced the rotors with Galfer wave and HH Sintered pads front and back. I also put a sump guard on it.

Next is Andreani fork cartridges and ECU flash.

Also, my clutch was slipping so I ordered the OEM plates and springs off Partzilla. $250. Watched a couple YouTube videos and tackled it myself. The old plates were fine so it must have been the springs but I put the new  in anyway and it works great. Sometime in the  summer  I might do the  slipper clutch. I need a new rear for the summer so there's one on Amazon, Pirelli Angel ST $125. Going with a 190/ 55-17. Good looking tire and great price. I only got 4 to 5000 miles out of a Shinko Raven but I only payed $97 for it on Amazon. I really don't like buying off of that site because they are anti free speech and pro Communist but they have great deals.

  9. Hello, so I purchased a 2015 fj09 about 3 weeks ago. It had a wore out rear tire when I got it so I went up a size and did a 190/50 17 Shinko 009 Raven.

It rides great but the bars have vibration that makes my thumb, index and middle fingers on my right hand go numb after 20 minutes of riding.

I'm thinking about going up on the front to a 130/80. I'm kind of a taller guy and have the seat up also
