Finally done.... between the kit and the sport seat I am now able to touch the ground with my small legs (jean legs size: 30), now if there is a way to shave 50 pounds of the weight? Welder humor: a key holder made with the cut off part from the side-stand!

A question for people who have installed shorter fork springs and rear link arm: does the springs can be changed without taking the cowl(s) away, is there enough space to pass with only turning the fork ? To change the rear link is there an easier way than to take the rear wheel/mudguard off? Thanks!

I finally decided to install some old Vmax, black, mirrors on my GT, ordered the blanking anodized parts for the stock mirrors and some hand guards with turn signals... guards are touching the fairing when turning, so I cannot install them. Any idea for turn signals in place of the stock mirrors?Thks

Does anyone know what could be the max watts available from the 12v plug off the dashboard? After changing my windshield I, kind of, decided that the wires to this would be a great way to plug some extra lights (fog etc); the lights I am looking at are 10w each (x2). Thoughts?

I just installed the SW Motech ones and used the same torque value as I used my torque wrench to unscrew the stock bolts and I needed around 42nm to do it.

Has anyone changed the location of the license plate? Any options to relocate it (not on the swing arm!) and take off the mini fender etc?

Thanks for the answers. One of the solutions was right in front of me: we bought some Coleman (Maddog!) ATV seat covers for our XTs years ago and even moved one to my wife’s KTM. These little pads help a lot: we went for long days on our XTs and were able to sit after! Amazon is selling them for $19.88!!!

I am completely aware of the saddle height!! Instant cramps in both calves when I reach for the ground… does not help that all my “bikes” are 3 wheelers (Spyder/ sidecars) and that I have to remember having a foot on the ground. I am afraid that an Airhawk or something similar will increase seat height. I’ll start looking for some local upholstery shop…

Adding miles to my GT, it feels like I could use a more comfy seat! An email to SeatConcept has not been answered; I have one of their seat in my S10 and really like… is there any choice around for the GT?? Bonus question: is there a kind of “assistance” in the throttle when starting from a stop? I have the feeling, when starting, that the throttle automatically raise… like it could be impossible to stall? I discovered this while making a slow u-turn: did not have to apply throttle and the bike did not die on me…

Mr. Yamaha please! Even if it looks like you are abandoning the current Niken, could you please put your R&D guys at work in the next Niken(s) generation ? I think 2 different models should be in the work: -A adventure one based on the current model but with larger front wheels (19in minimum), smaller front cowl, engine (same size etc) protection. -A real GT one with real bags, shaft drive, biggest dash board (analog tach please) with radio WIFI, GPS, paddle shifter (I.e automatic clutch), comfy seats. Engine could be a V4 (not another 4 in line please), Vmax engines (GEN1 or…. GEN2) would be perfect. Linked brakes with only one pedal, cruise control as now… maybe a reverse?? Don’t do the same mistake you did with the GTS 1000, XTZ 550, TX750 in abandoning them, persevere and the Niken will be a cult bike like the Vmax, XT500/225, TDM (in Europe) and every bikes you’ve been producing for more than 10 years! Please, please, please!!

I am so weak... a 20 minutes ride on a used Niken GT(3900 miles) and I bought it! I only rode an handful of bikes for the last 10 years, riding/driving mainly a Spyder and some sidecars and I am surprised by the lightness of the Yamaha: despite the extra weight on the front the bike is well balanced and apart of almost putting my foot on the ground when stopping I had no difficulties at all. Front brakes have to be the most powerful I ever tried!!!! Even with my arm problem and only 2 fingers on the brake lever I scarred myself with the stopping power! Mirrors are not that practical. No self cancelling blinkers??? Guess I have to get used to the speed shifting.... or maybe it has been deactivated on mine? Bike seems to be comfy even if the windshield creates a little buffeting over 85mph. 3 cylinders are definitively my favorites engines! Can't wait for longer rides!!!

Speaking of Niken accessories, how come no one came with a lock system which could able the bike to stay upright when stop or when neutral is selected or manually a la Piggio MP3?
