  1. Personally I like the firm bite of a well-sprung throttle, the snap is kinda like the motorcycle equivalent of a well-made Volkswagen door being firmly shut.
  2. Great idea for Virginia to get in on North Carolina's Tail of the Dragon moto-tourism action! http://www.virginia.org/listings/OutdoorsAndSports/BackoftheDragon/ Haven't been out that way yet, anyone have a ride report? I hear the terrain is very different from Tail of the Dragon, i.e., less banked corners, lots of guard rail.
  3. Haven't ridden out that way yet, good suggestion bobdog, the BRP will see a lot of me this riding season!
  4. Like Trambo said, RT 5 and Rt 10 is a popular route, it also works in reverse from the Hampton Roads area. A little further afar in NoVA, the "Leesburg Loop" is a great ride that can take all day, or be split into sections, link: http://www.sundaymorningrides.com/road/9864948/
  5. Poe's Pub in Richmond does a monthly "Bikes at the Bottom" biker breakfast meet where you'll see folks riding anything from garage-built cafe racers to (semi) street-legal KTM enduros, basically everything that isn't a cruiser or a supersport. I haven't been on one of these rides yet, but there is a group in your area called RVAMotorcycles (http://rvamotorcycles.com/), who meet every Sunday at the parking lot directly in front of Fountain Lake in Byrd Park at noon for a group ride. If you join them, be sure to post up and let us know how it goes!
  6. Sounds like it's time to go Beast Mode! (rofl)
  7. Welcome and congrats, I recently purchased mine here a little while ago, coming up on the first oil change. Interested to hear your first impressions!
  8. Wait, you weren't!?! I figured that was just the new "biker wave"!
  9. Had a great ride today with Swoody and some of his riding buddies, the group consisted of a Ducati Multistrada, a Kawasaki ZR7-S (first one I've seen) and two FJ-09's. We rode from Newport News, VA to to Richmond, VA to attend the bi-monthly "Bikes at the Bottom" biker breakfast meet at Poe's Pub. There were plenty of interesting bikes to see, despite a large sport-touring and sport-adventure turn-out, we were the only riders on FJ-09's. On the way we rode along some of SE Virginia's curviest roads, including RT 5 along the James River, on the way back, we took the longer way via RT 14, which was recently resurfaced, and has "worn itself in", with much less gravel than I remember a couple years ago when it was resurfaced--check it out if you're in the Gloucester, VA area! Snapped a few pics along the way:
  10. [/img]Modified the stock rider and passenger seats with memory foam as per California Scientific's instruction guide found here: http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Seats.html First try left some visible edges under the seat cover, so I went back and smoothed the edges with scissors and added some duct tape to the seams: http://i64.tinypic.com/b7i3wh.jpg Looks stock, but the memory foam makes a great improvement, not by adding support, but by relieving some of the pressure! Note: I'd recommend ordering the foam from Cal Sci, or another source you know, I initially ordered some from www. Foam Online. com, but they sent me extra soft tempur foam instead of extra firm.
  11. Swoody and I area headed to Poe's Pub in Richmond, VA this Sunday (June 12th) for the "Bikes at the Bottom" monthly motorcycle breakfast meet. Would be cool to see some Richmond area riders too, look for the FJ's!
  12. Alligator eye lens covers sounds bad-ass! Gotta love Colemans, I rented a Triumph Tiger 800 from them to try out before deciding on the FJ-09. They also do a good Zero electric bike demo day for anyone interested!
  13. When are most people on here doing syncs? The manual has it on the first service and pretty often after that. The service manager at cycle city told me he had never seen a yamaha street triple that needed a TB sync on the first service... Just skimmed though a thread on Throttle Body syncing, some good info here, seems some folks are going by the manual (cant argue with a Yamaha Engineer), while some are waiting to 4000 miles for first sync: http://fj-09.org/thread/1339/throttle-body-sync
  14. For sure sk8nsanta, I recently rode a single cylinder thumper down from Nova via Rt 1 and Rt 17, it's a great day trip!
  15. Way to score some free OEM luggage and touring screen! I'll likely do the first service myself too, not much experience with multi-cylinder bikes, so it will be a learning curve. This video of a FJR TB sync makes it seem like it would be straightforward enough to learn:
  16. Hey man, I thinking I passed you this afternoon on Oyster Point Blvd! Silver 2016? I'm guessing you grabbed the model that was at Casey. I looked at it before I got mine and was in there the other day and it was gone! I was on a red '15 with a white/black rev'it jacket. Hit me up if'n you want to go for a ride! edit: making assumptions here, as I haven't seen any other fj's in the area. Might not have been you Swoody, you beat me to it...Yes, that was me you just passed, congratulations on finding an FJ! Did you have to go far? You're right, I rescued the lonely Matte Silver '16 from the corner of Cycle City! We'll have to get together for an inaugural Virginia forum ride once I break it in!
  17. Hampton Roads, VA rider checking in, just picked up an eff-jay-oh-nine this weekend, also interested in the Shenandoah ride!
