  1. I'm working some long shifts the next few days. So unfortunately there probably won't be an update until Thurs eve.

Plan is to pull the wheel off and reassemble slowly and triple check everything again. With pics!

But thanks gang for all the ideas so far.

This is the confusing part, the wheel is hard to turn yet you have zero brake pedal feel.

With the bike up on the center stand can you move the wheel by hand?  If you remove the caliper from the brake carrier does the wheel suddenly free up or is it still hard to rotate?

So, I had to back paddle out of a parking spot yesterday, it's was stupid hard. Bike on centre, the tire will move, with considerable effort. As soon as the caliper comes off, it's all price is right bonus round spinning freely. Riding there is no rear brake at all.

I was getting fluid and bubbles near the end of every cycle. When I removed the lid off the res, the internal bladder (not sure the actual name) was fully extended.

I was able to push the piston back to flat without issue when I removed it (15th time) this am.

Tire looks to be centre. Axel spacers are in, and in the correct spot.

Brake pads were properly lined up in the front edge of the system....

I cant understand how bumping the pedal or even pumping it several times deliberately would result in zero pedal feel.  How is the fluid level in the reservoir?

Like I said, a quick bleed to check for air bubbles just takes a minute.  Are you familiar with the procedure?

Yeah, I have done it before.

Fluid level is tits full. Backed off the cap when I pushed the piston out...sigh. I should be riding, not wrenching... Such is life

Not true, the only way that could happen is if you pumped the brake pedal enough to eject the piston and the system filled with air.

When you pump the brakes, the fluid from the reservoir fills the caliper, when you push the piston back into the caliper the fluid returns to the reservoir, its a closed system.

EDIT **additionally** how does the pedal feel? is it firm or spongey?  A quick bleed (not a flush) literally takes a minute to check for air bubbles and wont hurt to verify.

Brake is non-existent. When riding today, I bottomed out and there was no grab at all.

I think I was looking at the rear when everything was off and leaned and hit the brake pedal. After some swearing, ii was able to push the pistons out... Blah blah blah.

So a brake bleed, (not a flush) is in order?

  5. Hey gang,

I'm stumped. Changed out the rear tire, chain, and both sprockets. All that went fine...until it came to mounting tire.

The rear brake is grabbing enough that walking the bike is a chore, but when riding, I have no rear brake at all. I didn't change the pads, or touch anything back there at all. Fellow rider said to ride it and it will sort itself out..but it didn't.

The pads are in the correct position, so I'm at a loss. What am I missing/did wrong?

  6. Hey guys,

Looking for some reviews on the Yamaha comfort seat. I'm riding a '15 with oem seat, and although good, I am looking for better without breaking the bank. Also NOT looking for a skin and padding to make my own like some companies are doing. Looking at riding from Toronto to Seattle (and back!) in July and am looking to make the experience a little better/more fun.

Dealer can't find them anywhere, but I found one for around the $400 range.

Is it worth it? Is it actually comfortable? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Yeah i catch it from buds on rides for leaving the blinker going, LOL!I had a good habit of turning them off till I owned 3 VMaxes. They have auto cancelers. So I'm trying to get it back, old dog old tricks. Must Make Mind Work, MUST.

I barely use my signals on the bike. That's what my left arm is for. I have followed too many people who are going on a trip making left turns all the time (forgets to cancel his signal). Drives me up the wall! Lol

  8. I am reluctantly looking at a GPS, and this has made my list. Good reviews on YouTube so far.

Can GPS' be run off the cigarette lighter plug during a riding day without issue?

Just found a dealer in Canada...Wow! $700 Cdn?!? Might just have to stick with paper maps

  9. I did this exact job yesterday. Impact gun with 30mm socket definitely helps with front sprocket. Manual doesn't say to add loctite to the rear sprocket, but to each their own.

The hardest part will probably getting the chain rivet just right. Other than that, take your time and have fun with it.

Just curious but can we (USA) order from Yamaha canada?

    Hey,

I'm not sure. When I order (ordered my sprockets today) I pay in full in advance. Then I go pick up when I get the call. Not sure if they would ship. Best to do is call your nearest Cdn dealer. Not sure of your location, so I can't help ya find one. If you're too far for a drive over the border, I'm sure I could ship the parts to you.

We have options... but we naturally end up gravitating to places with best prices and service, and so FortNine wins almost every time... for me anyway. We also have (some local to GTA for walk-in) Royal Distributing, GP Bikes, Parts Canada, Kimpex etc. Twisted Throttle gouges and no longer offers free local pickup... but sometimes there may be no better choice.

Out your way, you have Motostarz and Bayside Performance just to the west. I've ordered from both, but shipping is usually pretty expensive. There are probably other options.

Kind of hijacking here but: I was in talks with Bayside re: suspension upgrades, but he would never give me a straight answer. He lost my business because of that.

@hammer... FortNine is a good source. I bought DID 525VX and sprockets from them.

I have looked there, the "problem" is that you have the find the gear yourself. Chain and sprockets aren't coming up in my "garage" (unless I'm doing it wrong?)

But they are my go to for tires, so it would be nice to get it all at once.
