  1. The clutch "judder" spring 11 is facing outward (as it helps to disengage the clutch pack when the clutch is released). I watched nearly all the videos and read your very well written posts! Seriously, much appreciated that you took the time to make those posts and to respond to mine. I agree with you that the free play is the issue. Will work on this tonight or in the AM and respond back. Thank you!
  2. @dazzler24 decided to step back and remeasure all the plates before moving on to the clutch case. The stack measured 43.21 which is in line with original measurement of 43.31. Within range. So moving onto the clutch case. When you installed your own clutch case, is there any freeplay in the rod movement before the gears engage? What were your own tips and trick to getting the engagement right on the clutch case rod?
  3. @betoney and @dazzler24 here is a sum-up. Having trouble getting the new slipper clutch (PartShark kit) to release on my 2015 FJ09. Here are the details on my install: - Clutch pack width measured 43.31 mm which is within the allowed range - Clutch pack order (from engine): o Spring seat o Judder spring (raised edge facing outward as in Yamaha manual) o New friction plate 1 o Old Clutch plate 2 o Old friction plate 2 o Old Clutch plate 2 o Old friction plate 2 o Old Clutch plate 2 o Old friction plate 2 o Old Clutch plate 2 o Old friction plate 2 o Old Clutch plate 2 o Old friction plate 2 o Old Clutch plate 2 o Old friction plate 2 o Old Clutch plate 2 o New friction plate 1 o New clutch plate 1 o New friction plate 1 - total of 3 new friction plates, 1 new clutch plate, 6 old friction plates and 7 old clutch plates - New clutch spring bolts torqued to 7 ft pounds When I install the clutch cover, with the pull rod turned to 4 o’clock position, I can engage it with the pull rod shaft. But with the cover on, there is free play in the rotation of the pull rod shaft before it actually begins to release the clutch (see video). I suspect this is my problem as it seems like the pull rod is not engaging far enough. Is this free play normal or not? If not, what is the best way to address it as I suspect this is why the clutch does not release? Here are some images and a very short video: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1cp5z15LuIq_CdBDKcbRHCJgPlpMfUB_3?usp=sharing What are your thoughts?
  4. Thanks guys. The pull arm is too loose. I will try your suggestions.
  5. @betoney I am encountering the problem that you describe with the push lever assembly. What did you do to solve this? -The push lever assembly (where the clutch cable connects to) gets aligned triangle to dot when there is tension on the arm, if you align the two marks when there is free play, you will adjust your lever all the way out and will have zero clutch cable pull.
  6. No it does not take 4 hours. Use a dowel when you push out the axle so the wheel doesn't drop. Then push out the dowel when you put the axle back on. Seriously, this can be done easily in 1 to 1.5 hours.
  7. The Black Pearl is da one! The paint is a lot cheaper at Auto Zone if I remember right.
  8. Can you repost photos as I'm interested in the GPI triple tree stand and would like to see that it can lift the bike without using blocks of wood. The pin is 19 mm (loose fit) or 20 mm (tight fit). If the group knows which brands of triple tree stands will work with the Tracer without blocks of wood that would be appreciated.
  9. The OEM Yamaha headed grips are the hottest of any motorcycle I have owned, including BMW. The grips are also integrated into the main controls in a cool way. If yours are not getting H O T then something is wrong.
  10. Here is the link Mobil 1 Extended Performance, High Efficiency, High Capacity Oil Filter | 565897 | Pep Boys WWW.PEPBOYS.COM
  11. Mobil 1 has a motorcycle specific oil filter for many Yamaha models, it is part number M1MC-134. This is a motorcycle specific filter made by Champ Labs and sold as a Mobil 1 filter. It has correct M20 x 1.5 threads (confirmed with Steve at Champ Labs) and is specified in their catalog for the FJ-09 / FZ-09 models. These filters are on sale now at Pep Boys online in the US for $7.84 each, which is about half of what the dealers charge for the OEM filter. I bought a couple and they look very well made, with a lot of media, straight pleats and solid construction. The Mobil 1 filters are a couple millimeters longer than the OEM Yamaha 5GH-13440-50-00 or 5GH-13440-60-00 filters but that does not create any fitment issue at all as there is still a lot of clearance for getting a cap wrench on the filter. The base plate on the Mobil 1 filter is very stout and it is correctly made as concave just as the OEM filter so it does not contact the base on the engine.
  12. The reason why oils with high zinc additive are deemed "bad" for vehicles with catalytic converters is because if you burn oil, the catalytic converter can be damaged. Firstly, the Yamaha engines do not burn oil, so this should not happen. Secondly, the Rotella T6 does not have any more ZDDP (zinc) than most of the better motorcycle oils, so using T6 is not a greater risk for damaging your catalytic converter. As a quick comparison, Mobil 1 10W40 motorcycle oil has 1200 PPM of zinc while Shell Rotella T6 5W40 has 1095 ppm in the current formulation.
  13. Not sure why someone would use an automotive oil filter on their Tracer as the OEM filter (5GH-13440-50-00, now 5GH-13440-60-00) is available online for 10-12 USD and sometimes cheaper at Yamaha boat shops (this filter is also used for many Yamaha boat engines). The Wix 51358 (also available from NAPA as NAPA Gold 1358 ) is also specified directly for the Yamaha FJ-09 / MT09 and is a well made motorcycle filter (NAPA has them on sale every 3 months for less than 6 bucks). There is not a lot of clearance between the pipes and the end of the filter with the tiny factory filter, so the discussion about using a longer filter sounds like it would create a lot of fun when changing the filter. No need to make changing your filter a science project.
  14. When Yamaha factory heated hand grips are added, the right hand bar end is changed in the kit. Will The Barkbuster kit work with FJ-09s that have factory heated hand grips? If yes, how?
