  1. $200.00 shipped to lower 48. Screen is clear. Used for a few weeks. It works, just don't like the look. Dropped two washers into black hole in front of the dash. Replaced with different color washers.

    Edit - found 1 washer

    Bike is a 2016.

So this weekend my Madstad 24" screen came in and I installed it yesterday without issue.  For reference, I am 5'11" and have a 32" inseam so I opted for the 24" screen.  After I installed it I went on a good test ride and tried every height and angle that I could and with great disappointment, I just couldn't get it to work.  It cut the noise down by maybe 50% but I experienced buffeting at anything over 65 mph and it was a calm day.  I use a Shoei GT Air II helmet.  Bottom line is I didn't really like it and the benefit versus how it looked was not worth it to me.

So....I took it off and went back to the stock screen with the puig wind deflector and I am gonna call it done.  With this set up I actually get ZERO buffeting but a fair amount of wind noise above 65mph.  However with ear plugs its actually very very liveable and I like the way it looks.  Guess I must be one of the few who don't like thei'm  madstad but that's ok by me.  I had to try it and see....

My experience is similar to yours. I'm 5'11" and went with the 20" screen. I didn't want a larger one, so if this didn't work, oh well. Cut down the noise where I don't need ear plugs and can listen to music. Still some buffeting. We get get our fair share of wind here which doesn't help.

Anyway, went back to the Cal Sci TS today. Don't like the look of the Madstad. When the weather cools down, maybe I'll try the wind deflector.

Ordered my Seat Concepts touring seat in early March - just chatted with my local distributor who tells me SC is having a bit of trouble with material suppliers - so it's still at least a week away.

I was looking to get one a few months ago. They were about 30 days out. I passed. I still want one. Now they say 8 to 10 weeks. I'm 10 miles away from them.

You live in a great area for riding. Highways 20&26 are great. I particularly like the stretch over to John Day. I've looked at the route to Idaho City, but never got a chance to ride it. Looks great!

Here we've had a mild warm up. I got the FJ09 out for about 100 miles the other day to pick up some carbs for my BMW project. Figured why not ride?

Seeing as it's a pic thread - one carb mounted -

Lots of good roads that way that I haven't explored yet. Nice bike!

Not far as the crow flies but beautiful

It took a hard day in a stage of saddle to get there in 1864!

I'm sure you made it a lot faster with a better saddle

I'm a transplant here. A coworker says there was a lot of mining in the area back in the day. Idaho City still looks like an old western town. Dirt streets, wooden sidewalks and old western style storefronts. Also, a lot of people are packing.

On the google map attachment you can see a popular ride here called "the loop". Keep heading north to Lowman, head over to Garden Valley and back down to Boise or wherever you started from. No loop yesterday. Elevation climbs to 6k on the way to Lowman. Roads are icy in places and sketchy. Rode it last year when we first moved here. Puckered me up a bit.

Just to add to this thread - I've ordered a Seat Concepts Sport Touring cover & foam today from a local distributor.  ETA about a month - should arrive just in time for spring, hopefully.

This is despite some of the negative reviews - but my reasons for wanting one are different - I've researched other options.

SC is the only one (aside from a custom seat, but that's WAY more $) that increases height, something I do want and would benefit from.  I'm 6', lanky, and inflexible.  I don't mind putting one foot down at a stop, in fact, that's how I was trained - so it's habit (come to rest in first gear with right foot on the peg, clutch in = ready for anything).

The other reason is a bit more ...personal.  When I first got the FJ, I found I was scooting my butt back a bit.  Some trial and error after several short and long rides later, I find that ergonomics are FAR better (hips and knees  - shoulders to a lesser extent) if I scoot forward as close as possible to the tank.  This works great for me, biomechanically, but...after about an hour, this mans berries get sooo bloody sore but somehow also numb (cue the obvious jokes) that is is beyond uncomfortable.  It's like a looong slooow kick to the nards that takes about an hour or more to notice.

So, I want a taller seat (check), a bit softer would be nice (check) and a flatter, more even profile close to the tank (check).

A friend got a Seat Concepts for his KTM and loves it.

Price / benefit ratio seems reasonable to me - when considering a custom seat, that is.

I opted to leave the pillion seat as-is - she owns more bikes than me, so I doubt I'd have many passengers, if any at all.

Let us know how you like it. I've been considering one. I'm about 20 minutes away from them. They make them as you order, so the only advantages to being local are shipping costs and they'll install for 25.00 per seat. Price is right.

I was intrigued by the specs of the new Ducati Multistrada V4 when it was announced. Ride reports are starting to appear and it sounds like a pretty damn good sport touring bike with a little capability off pavement:

    21005-Ducati-Multistrada-7491_feature.jp

The much-hyped 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4 is finally here and it...

It looks like a V4S with the stuff I would want is around $25k. I know it's not as rational as the S1000XR ($21-23k) or the Tracer 9GT ($15k), but man it sounds like a lot of fun. Talk me down from the cliff.

They'll be no talking you off of the ledge. If you're able, just run towards it, or ride off of it. Ha.

I've ridden two Ducs. My friend's 900 SS and my son's 950 Multi. Both were great. The handling of the SS was crazy good. The Multi is a little top heavy, but I could get used to it. My son said he thinks the FJ handles better than the Multi. I agree. 50 lbs. lighter and not top heavy.

No dealer here in Boise and they are kind of pricey. I actually have a soft spot for the air cooled multis. I hear they turn you into a mechanic.

I think the new engine should cut down on the cost of ownership. The attention to detail is incredible. Should be for that kind of money.

    Do it.

Todd has been shown the door for violating rules of the forum. He was walking the fine line for a long while and I think we gave him plenty of chances to behave and let it go.

From line item #7 in our moderator instructions: "...being mean to another poster, harassing, & trying to argue..."

Hard to believe we use words like "behave". Cracks me up. You have to go out of your way to be like that on this forum. So much helpful information. Good riddance.

I never did hear how @betoney messed up his piece of aluminum. I know how I trashed mine. Probably shouldn't be wrenching on my scooter. Ha.

I'd be surprised if Dave Moss was moving the forks in the clamps in a Cycle Gear suspension adjustment but I suppose it's possible.

In general, raising the rear or lowering the front will make the bike turn in quicker and put more weight on the front wheel, at the expense of stability. Raising or lowering the entire bike a fixed amount mostly impacts anti-squat geometry, a higher bike will squat less on the gas and therefore be less inclined to run wide, but at the expense of some rear tire traction.

I'm not new to riding or suspension (I race supermoto, obviously different bikes), but different bikes want different changes and I figured asking is easier than making the adjustments and testing myself.

I wasn't too clear. Dave said he owns a Tracer (maybe he said MT or FZ, not sure) and moved the forks in the clamps. Said he wanted the bike to turn in quicker.

At Cycle Gear I received the the normal adjustment you receive for $40.00 which included questions on style of riding, sag adjustment then test ride and adjust again if necessary.. He was pretty thorough. Adjustment/Test Ride three times. He had a steady flow of bikes to adjust all day.

I watched him adjust three Ducatis. Not sure what was up (I didn't ask), but he took a hammer to the shock on all three. Shock adjustment on those were intense.

The forum is very informative. Someone will probably respond with a more helpful response than I gave you.

Just got it back from 52,000 mile service.

Oil, brakes all around, and a DID chain, air filter.

My service guy was talking about a gold chain, and I was like just the basic color. Now looking at it. I shoulda got the gold chain. With the forks and pinstriping it would've looked pretty good. Next time I guess. *Sigh*

I think it would look good. I think I'll do the same.

I was thinking of powder coating my wheels gold. I've seen pics if gold spoke wheels. Can't tell if it would be too much bling. Mine is black, kind of a blank canvas.

  11. I wouldn't mess with the geometry on my bike. If I could, I guess I would be a suspension guy or work for Yamaha. I think at least a few minutes goes into the development of the suspension of our bikes by the Yamaha people.

Don't mean to sound snarky, but I would imagine a lot of math is involved. I'm not smart enough to design my own bike.

I had my suspension adjusted by Dave Moss one day at Cycle Gear. He said he moved his forks up or down a few mm, I'm not sure, but I think it's a feel thing. Said it turned in quicker.

I've seen lowering links, and not sure if that changes the stock geometry for better, worse or no change?

For tall guys? Maybe seat height, lower pegs?

If I were to move anywhere it would be Boise. My company has a big campus there and it wouldn't be hard to get a transfer. How realistic is year-round riding there?

For me, year round riding isn't realistic. Could be different for you since you're in Oregon.

I don't ride in the rain, unless caught in a shower or something. I can ride in sub 40 temps, but good riding requires heading to higher elevations, which are colder. I worry about ice when heading higher up.

I haven't ventured into Oregon from here yet. Supposed to be some good roads. Just takes a while to get to the good stuff.

I think this area is ideal for a dual sport. I've thought about a T7.

We moved here from NorCal. Winters are mild. I was 20 minutes away from 49 and good roads any way you went. I rode daily. The downside was no rain at all, bad water policies, water rationing, home prices, high taxes and a bad political environment.

Boise home prices are skyrocketing. Not a big deal if you have equity in the one you're selling.

The bike sat for 2 weeks recently. I can see more time on the tender until March. I ride when I can, even if it's to work or a quick ride around town.

    Hope this helps, Dan.

Glad the weather cooperated and you were able to get out for a ride, we had torrential rains on and off today but it should clear up Tuesday - Thursday so I hope to get out for a ride as well.

I have heard great things about NorWest Suspension, I'm sure the forks will feel just a good as the shock when he is done.  Its such a great feeling once you get the suspension dialed in!  👍

Terry is very good at responding to questions and has a wealth of knowledge. I'm pretty close to being dialed in.

  14. Bike has been on a tender for close to two weeks. I know, stop whining. Some of you put the bikes away for months. I'm used to riding daily.

Went for a spin up to Idaho City. Temps were mid 40's starting out. Down in the 30's once I was closer to IC.

Roads were in great shape. Snow was plowed and roads were dry. Had a sandwich at the Sinclair in IC and filled up with non ethanol gas.

I'm still amazed how good the rebuilt OEM shock is from Terry at Norwest. Gonna send my forks up to him to fix my lack of rebound adjustment problem. He'll check to see if anything else was assembled incorrectly. Maybe new seals too.

No pics. Not much of a picture taker. The views were stunning. Crystal clear day and some snow on the peaks.

Boy, caught this amidst a "whata-I-do?" moment.

I was curious just how high a Pitbull triple tree pin lift jack would raise the bike. 'Specially after seeing a video of Moss saying one HAD to have a rear stand if using a front stand:

    1:23 timestamp.

I have the Pitbull stand. Just did a bunch of work. Stand under the front, rear wheel off on centerstand the bike was stable.

  16. I have a new rotor and bolts on order. Won't be here for a few weeks. I had the rear tire off doing other stuff and tried to remove one of the bolts just to see how tight they were. The bolts are on there pretty good. I couldn't loosen it up. Didn't want to risk stripping it.

    Any ideas? Impact driver?
