Well I ordered a set of thread files and they should be here by Tuesday. I’m going to order a extra countershaft nut too just in case. Will update my progress then.

I believe it is 1.0. I have a spare and had a look.
Copy that, thank you.

thread file and a small triangle file...take your time and make sure to be using the right thread pitch on the thread file.
Do you happen to know the thread pitch by chance?
Thanks

@whitecrow - Relax, breathe... you’re going to be fine. Since you got the nut off, it already cleaned up the threads and fixed part of the problem. Do you have a new countershaft nut to use? If you lubricate it and thread it back on, you may find that it goes on just fine.
If not, don’t force the issue, and clean up as described above. Patience is your friend... The important threads at the bottom are fine, so it’s just the ones out there by the staking recess that need a little TLC.
And enjoy your trip!
Thanks for your reply. Yes I do have a new countershaft nut, but when I went to thread it back on it bound up so I stopped and backed it off so I didn’t hurt the threads on the nut. I thought by taking the old nut off that it would clean up the threads but the nut is a very soft metal so I don’t think it did much in the way of cleaning up the damaged threads. If I can find out the thread size and pitch of the countershaftI can get a die or a thread file and go to work on the threads but I can’t find the size.

While taking off the front sprocket nut I screwed up some of the threads on the countershaft trying to bend out the two stalked tabs. So now I need to find a die or a thread file to clean up the threads. I need to know the thread size and pitch of the counter shaft. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’m really just dejected about the whole dang thing. I’m supposed to be leaving on the 10th for a 6 day trip up thru Northern California along the coast and don’t want to have to cancel it. Taking time off work this week to get the problem fixed is a no go which is adding to my stress.

If you don't like the sound you could JB Weld a coin of the appropriate size to the back side of the baffle.
Did you ride it out on the road? What was your impression after drilling the holes?
Yes I took it for out for 180 mile ride and it was definitely louder. I rode with and without ear plugs as a test and sounded louder for sure. The bike did seem to run smoother in the higher rpms and was a little more peppy at higher speeds. I’ll probably just fill one or two holes at time till I feel like I can find the balance of peppy and not stupid loud.
-
Well I drilled 10 3/16 size holes in my baffle and it definitely is louder. So my question is would JB weld hold up to the heat if I wanted to fill a few holes?
-
Me too. I just installed a set of givi crash bars for highway pegs but not sure what people are running.

Here you go. Drilling seems to make the overall throttle response smoother as the exhaust breathes easier.
I drilled out my baffle and it seemed to smooth out the throttle as well.

Plus 1 for the scorpion as well, I love mine.

Not motorcycle related but I like to watch Cleetus McFarland on the YouTube, he actually just bought a abandoned race track in Florida and will be producing some really awesome content this year. Old Cleetus is kinda a goofball but his Chanel is always super positive. He made his name and channel with his twin turbo corvette named Leroy and his love of all things Dale Earnhardt.
I also like FTA (forty times around) adventures, this dude quit his job sold all his stuff and is full time traveling on his motorcycle. The channel cover gear reviews, camping gear, apps related free camping and some really cool riding and scenery type stuff.
two wheel obsession is good as well, lots of great maintenance info on his channel.

I stole this photo from @BBB - I drilled mine the same but a slightly larger drill bit.
If you had to guess, what size drill bit do you think you used?

No, nothing that I noticed. Even before drilling the holes, I didn't find the Scorpion necessarily 'louder' but it is definitely a deeper sound, like turning up the subwoofer on your stereo. If you were to completely remove the baffle then it is indeed louder.
I have the carbon version and yes it’s deeper, not louder that’s what I liked about this exhaust. Looks like I will be drilling out my baffle as well and see what I notice.

I couldn't stand the cabin fever any more, I had to get out and shake the cobwebs off even if it was a very short ride. I went out through some fast flowing sweepers, keeping the revs over 6k and leaving it in 3rd just to run the motor through its paces, one thing that kept popping into my mind was how smooth the bike felt. I have it flashed to A-mode and keeping the rpm's up in the sweet spot and just barely rolling the throttle through the turns was absolutely butter smooth and pulled nice and hard. I'm not going to claim that the extra holes are a miracle cure but... the only thing I did different was drill about 7 holes... draw your own conclusions. 👍
Did you notice any change in the way your bike sounds? Did it get louder?

Please, do not use Hydrofluoric acid. It is truly nasty stuff that can penetrate deeply into human tissue upon contact exposure resulting in liquefaction necrosis and very painful burns with deep tissue loss. It can even cause metabolic abnormalities that can be life threatening. Even with gloves, a tear, especially when using an abrasive pad, will result in serious injury. It is certainly not worth the risk to clean an exhaust pipe.
I work at a chemical company and this is by far the scariest chemical we have, and we have some gnarly chemicals. Kingfisher put it mildly, this shit will eat your skin all the way down to your bone and then eat your bones it seeks the calcium in your bones. We have a special cream fortified with with calcium that we are supposed to apply in case of accidental contact it’s supposed to pull the hydrofluoric towards the cream and hopefully you’ll be under a safety shower by that time rinsing yourself off till the ambulance gets there but your still F’d at that point. Pretty sure this is what the stew maker who worked for the cartels in Mexico used to dissolve all the body’s in.

I kinda feel like you should let us know the name of the shop, so at the very least if someone does go there for service or whatever at least they will have a heads up to thoroughly inspect their bike before leaving.

YAMAHA FJ-09 Tracer 2015-2017.I bought that same rack, was great and very stout. I never mounted a top case to it, I used as an extension of my pillion seat to hold my dry bag and sleeping pad.

That whole area from Mt. Shasta to Lake Tahoe is AMAZING. I have been through that area several times but on the main roads, 49/70/89/139/395 etc.
Even when I ride a familiar area, I always try to add a new section that Ive never ridden before. When I go back I specifically want to ride between Quincy and Oroville on a loop - Bucks Lake Rd/ Oro Quincy Highway and then La Porte Rd/Quincy Laporte Rd. Any feedback on this specific loop?
Lets see if this link works...
No I only have experience on the main roads. I’m thinking I’m gonna go back first week June and spend a few days riding out of Quincy.

That is saying a lot, I try to get down to California at least once a season and never get tired of the riding you have. Last season I discovered the Lake Berryessa/Calistoga area and will definitely be back for more.
This Spring I plan on exploring the roads between Quincy and Oroville for the first time, want to make a loop from Quincy to Bucks Lake to Oroville then to La Porte and back to Quincy. - Is that area worth the trip? any seasonal snow closures?
Yes the roads thru you planned route are amazing! Last year I rode the 36 from the coast all the way into Westwood where I got a Airbnb. The next day I road the 147 next to Lake Almanor to the 89 to 70 back to the 89 all the way down thru Truckee and down around Lake Tahoe to the 395 down to Bishop. The roads were damn near perfect, smooth as glass and grippy like riding on Velcro. My route took me thru Quincy and a few other small towns. Amazing is all I can say, definitely going back this summer or late spring. If I could figure out how to post pictures I would because some of the meadows you pop out in were breathtaking. Childs meadow in Mill Creek is just so dang beautiful I pulled over at the one convenience store got a Red Bull and just sat on a rock for a bit and just took it all in.

The first section of hwy 36 from red bluff is like a paved motor cross track! I tried to get a pic in front of the famous sign but there was literally a line of bikers lol

I just bought the Givi trekker outback 42 liter and the panniers and love how well built everything is. I can fit my helmet and a jacket in the 42 liter outback. With Givi topcases your gonna want to get the Monokey type as they are built much stronger for motorcycles, they Monolock is for scooters.

I pretty much always stand on my left peg then swing my leg over the bike, i hardly ever use the center stand. I have short legs so this helps me from kicking the back of my bike.

I had the x grip and hated it and bought a quad lock and will never have anything else. The x grip always hit the volume or power button on my iPhone and it was a pain to take a quick picture. The quad lock is super fast on and off the bike and I don’t even have to take my gloves off which is nice.

Not sure if it the same but I have used plasti dip on a lower aftermarket cowl on an older FZ09 I had and it held up great. I never removed it. I did have several coats on it and applied it when it was clean.
I’ve dipped multiple cars with plasti dip and they’ve all held up great. I have a 78 Yamaha xs650 and currently have the tank and side covers and wheels dipped as well its held up great for the last year and a half. Definitely worth checking out if you can get your hands on some. Check out dipyourcar.com for everything plasti dip, including a multitude of tutorials.

Thread pitch was indeed 1.0. Thank you very much for the help. I was able to clean up the threads and get the nut started and just tightened it slowly. Bike is all back together now.
