Hah I was going to upgrade my suspension with this spare bit of cash, but this post inspired me.  I hadn't really thought of the decision in this framing before, but basically:

I'm aware having the bike sprung for my weight will be a huge improvement, but only academically. I've *never* had a bike sprung for my weight, and from my perspective the Tracer has the best suspension I've ever used, so while I'm aware of problems, I don't know what I'm missing, not really.  And those problems are really only an issue at edge cases (hard performance riding) which while very important to me, only affects me sometimes.

But my sore butt affects me every time I ride, be it performance or just riding to work.

So a new Bagster Ready Luxe is on its way :)

I know what you mean about not knowing what you're  missing,  if anything. I rode for years with  mostly the same set of friends and we all thrashed our Goldwings  down in the  mountains.  Most of their  bikes  had upgraded suspension ( Traxxion Dynamics ) and for years they  hounded me about upgrading my bike too.  I wondered why I needed it as being a Flatlander I was  mostly keeping up with them.  Finally I found a super deal on a refreshed set of forks and bought them and put them on and it certainly  made a difference right from the  first ride out my driveway.  But, after a few rides it seemed like it used to.  It was the new normal and I felt like I'd thrown away  my money.  I let a friend ride my Wing once and  he noticed right away that it felt better than his did.  Having grown up riding around with clapped out bikes I just  learned how to ride with what I have.

    Gorgeous country and bike...

I may get to ride tomorrow in our "twisties", a left, right, left series of sweepers every few miles with maybe 45 foot elevation changs, with a hairpin maybe every 30 miles.

    Sigh...

You still have more curves than I have I bet.

Fjray was nice enough to swing by and help me bleed my brakes then we went out to ride some of his favorite Michigan roads.

Had a ball and have some news too.  Traded my FJ in on a 2019 Tracer.  That's right, I got a Goo.  Probably should have gotten the GT but this is almost exactly what I had and that was good enough.  I would have been on the FJ in the photo if not for me bringing a few things to help with the brake bleeding.  So naturally I took the pack mule.

If you flush & fill the coolant at the same time and don't use a vacuum tool, you can remove the radiator altogether and have maximum access!

It still would probably be faster than pulling all the bodywork, tank, air box, etc..

But I couldn't  get to the  air filter  that way.  Good to know  though.

  5. I've had my Aerostich one piece Roadcrafter since 1993!  It keeps you dry if you remember to close the front flaps good.  I also have a two piece Darien set that I like for the convenience but I'd rather go with the one pc.  It has a messed up zipper now and so the Darien gets all the work now.  Most of my friends are all Klim'ed up and that's probably the way I would go now.  But back in 1993, there wasn't Klim gear or good BMW gear.

  6. I've been lucky enough to go to Europe for one week with the Motorcyclist magazine Alps Challenge tour.  It was great fun but like has been pointed out here many times, there's a bunch of roads around here to ride that are damn good too.  I disagree with the Natchez Trace Parkway being a good road to ride.  I think I'd rather take a beating than ride that again.  There's lots of good roads in the Smokies that don't involve flying across the pond.

I go to a gas station that sells 100% gas. If you get that and add any of these solutions you should have a normal start up in the spring.  100% burns better, stores better, smells better.

You need this non ethanol gas for your snowblowers, mowers, chain saws, etc.  I don't add stabilizer when I use the good gas.  No problems, ever.  Usually start first pull on the starter rope.

When you have the right tool for the job (not a street bike), riding off road is a blast.  In my area we have almost as many forest roads or non-paved access roads as paved roads, the amount of the areas that you can access and explore is mind boggling, especially since so much of the area is forested and mountainous.

Hundred percent agree with you, dirt bike is the way to go on the trails.  I've raced MX, done some local enduros, but I was on a group ride with some guys and I didn't have a GPS yet, so I had to follow.  I go there to ride asphalt is what I should have said.
