That's funny. My wife accuses me of leaning into turns and accelerating through the curves in the car.
My wife doesn't accuse me of leaning and using the racing line, but I certainly do it.

That's what I said to him
Before he left I said you couldn't pick a worse day to do it and he said he had his rain gear but it didn't help
I just can't believe he did it because Chicago traffic with tornadoes in the area for the last couple of days
What is mode 2 to out of 4
Isn't that what you said you were in
It's still nowhere near as bad as coming back from the 08 moto GP
That was a major near US Minnow storm
3 and a 1/2 hours normal turned into 12 of hell
I rode through water up to my knees and all the major highways shut down and the cops were nowhere to be seen to redirect traffic
I think I 65 was shut down for like a week
David I'm glad you're back in one piece we'll talk later
Glad I didn't make it that first year.

How'd you find the instrument cluster? Like I mentioned previously, I found it a tad low. Also the black background, is there an option to change that to white? As for the wide foot-pegs there is an easy solution, you should be able to easily swap them for the shorter all metal ones from the 900.

You may be right, but since I lowered my FJ a skid plate wouldn't probably last long.
I don't have a dog in this fight but I'd think a lowered bike would need it even more.

I had 15,000 miles on my FJ09 that I traded. Stock chain with a lot of hard pulls out of a lot of curves. And lots of cleaning with a grunge brush.

Saw a low mile 15 @ 5700, add 2800 (parts only) for a flash, shock, cartridges, slipper, McCruise, lines & pads = 8500 vs 15000 = ∆ -6500
That's a metric ton of shekels! 8500 / 15000 = 56% For 6500 you could have a nice 250 ADV to plonk around on...
Yeah, but its not an 889 cc engine. Add the bore job and new pistons and everything and the labor. I said if you're going to 890 cc. Its only a thought exercise anyway.

Thanks but he was a dirty boy!
Can't see from the starboard side photo but on the portside you'll see the Razor R shock reservoir and otherwise bits. A used fastest Red 15 can be upgraded to near 21 levels for a lot less shekels!
Not too many less shekels if you're going up to 890 cc.

Givi V47 Monokey Top Case: $150
Some scuffs, inside and out. No cracks or warps, gasket is in good condition. The plastic buckle on the elastic retention straps is broken; I've been using a carabiner. I know someone is going to ask: I cannot fit two of my helmets in it, or my helmet and my wife's. I could probably fit two of my wife's helmets though. I don't know if it's classified as waterproof, but I have been through some absolutely torrential riding on tours, and everything stayed dry. Two keys with the case, for when you inevitably lock one inside it.
Givi SR2122 Top Case Rack: $50***SOLD***Obviously compatible with above case. Uses the bikes existing hardware for mounting. In good shape.Givi E22N Monokey 22L Cruiser cases: $100
Love these cases. Bought them in California for lane splitting as they don't increase the width of the bike. A few scuffs inside and out, plastic is not cracked though. Probably not waterproof as they don't really have a gasket, but I have not had problems with them. Three keys included.
Givi PLR2122 Rapid Release Side Case Racks: $100
Replaces the stock case rails with low profile mounting points on the subframe and passenger foot pegs. A little rust inside the subframe mounts. Racks are in good shape. They can be tight to fit; I suggest attaching at the foot pegs first, then the subframe. Cross brace for stabilizing cases.
Barkbuster Storm S7 Single Side Handgaurd: $60***SOLD***Replaces the stock handgaurds with something that gives you actually weather protection. Great for wind and rain. These DO NOT offer crash protection, as they only attach at the bar ends. FJ-09 specific bar end adapters included.Motion Pro PBR Chain Tool: $50
Good condition; disassembled and greased before every use. So... It's a greasy box. Have fun.
Probably a few more things to come; a windscreen or two, heated grips if anyone is interested, and flush mount turn signals if I can motivate myself to put the pumpkins back on. If any of those are of interest to you, let me know.
How much for the hand guards? Oops, see earlier post that they're sold. Thanks anyway

But a 6 year old could start it. With my Martek electronic ignition, if you give it a half kick it'll start and run BACKWARDS given it's symmetrical port timing.
Won a few bets that way that it had 6 speeds forward and 6 reverse.
Jest gotta do it carefully and slowly as the clutch basket nut and others will loosen!
True. I could start it with my hand.

I usually use Std mode. The engine is fine on this bike, the stock tires and stock suspension need to go. I can ride it fine in A mode but again, it ain't power that's the problem.

Newer tradition that sucks. Even my 15 had more, albeit cheese metal tools but my 76 RD400 has a full tool bag AND self canceling turn signals!
Porqua?
And kickstart only. I loved my RDs though.

I understood Ienatsch to say that trail braking is to load the front suspension, not to slow the bike. Better to trail brake into the corner than coast into a corner with no control over the suspension.
What I haven't seen him write about is rolling through a corner on "neutral throttle" with just enough throttle to counteract the acceleration of the curve to hold a steady speed vs go in fast then trail brake to the apex. Neutral throttle should set the suspension like trail braking. There will be more weight on the rear, but the rider will be in control. I'm guessing "neutral throttle" is what @fjray is describing.
@duckie - I think pashnit.com had a motorcycle LA TO SF route that went over some of those roads. A few of the roads were hoary, but a group of friends started a December LA to Monterey ride weekend tradition that use some of those roads. Thanks for reminding me of them.
Nick does go into that a lot actually but instead of calling it neutral throttle he calls it maintenance throttle.

The Pace is now the Pace 2.0. Really pushing the whole trail braking thing. I can trail brake but often I find I'm going the ideal speed and don't need the brakes then. After all, I'm not racing. Also, sometimes it might be nice to give the following rider a momentary brake light even if you don't need to slow down much. Especially when riding with someone new to riding or at least new to you.

Really. You think there could be bad gas in there from new after 8,000 miles? My FJ I bought was sitting on the sales floor for 17 months. Never had a bit of smells or stumbling or vibrations. I has a wise old friend of mine that was a motorcycle mechanic and me and my friends seemed to be always asking him about some noise or something. His answer was always just go ride the thing and don't worry about anything. He was never wrong as I recall.

If the injector is sticky, yes. And contrary to popular belief there is a small amount of some kind of stabilized fueling stuff in the tank from the factory. Bikes are typically run through the gears when built (not redlined on a dyno as some believe...)
That shmutz was in there for an extended period of time on the sales floor before it was sold. So yes, try some quality injector cleaner and replace the spark plugs. Throw some Ring-free plus in there for good measure.
warranty won’t usually cover a sticking injector but you can ask your dealer. You can still swap them around and see if bike running changes too if you want.

Yup. I've run Push Mountain several times, and it can be looped into the ride I did very easily. I just hadn't been on Hwy 9 in many years and wanted to get re-acquainted with that section of road. If you like Push, then you'll love the upper section of Highway 123; in my opinion, it's more demanding than Push Mountain by a wide margin!
I've ridden Push Mountains twice, in different years. I've never gotten the thrill out of it that others have.

Heck of a deal. I have a spare set of wheels and they pay for themselves in a tire change or two. Someone ought to jump on these.

Basically I just ride my Tracer in the twisties. I haul it south in my truck and ride it hard for 4-5 days. I've yet to get 2K out of a set of tires. I have a spare set of wheels with fresh rubber on and this helps me get the maximum mileage I can get out of a set of tires.

Hope I can say this without hurting the OP's feelings but with the mileage he's getting with the original tires, I don't think he's wearing one side out before the other. JMHO
