  1. So I got new tires, broke my chain,  a lotta work, but i got em on myself, balanced very nicely.

Went to put the chain back together and the master link I ordered didn't fit, the pins are slightly wider than the ones on the stock chain , by only 0.2mm, but no way it will fit into the chain. (I didn't realize masterlinks were chain specific)

Are there any masterlink options for the stock chain? It's a DID 525V11.

DID doesn't even list the chain on it's website and I can't find a masterlink for it. I'm sure there's a masterlink thet's compatible but they don't list pin diameters on their website either.

Bike only has 6.5k miles so I don't think I wanna swap the chain yet if I don't have to.

I wanted to see if anyone here has ridden 2 up on the 900 GT and if so how was it ?  My wife would like to ride with me from time to time, but I am not sure if the 900 GT is the right bike for that..

All the time.  To put this in perspective im 5'5" 160 lbs, 28 inch inseam (the Tracer's seat height is 31.5") so even with no passenger im tippy toe.

My regular passenger up until about 3 months ago was my son (he recently got his learner's permit so he now prefers to drive for the practice)

My son is about 5'8ish 180 lbs. When I first got the Tracer one of his immediate comments was how much more comfortable it was, how much more leg room,  and the fact he wasn't leaned up directly on my back vs my shadow (at that time he was about 5'6" 160 lbs)

The GT's preload adjust knob is a godsend. Makes it so easy,  especially since for me my passenger actually weighs more than me. The bike  handles extremely well with a passenger both at low and interstate speeds.

    Hello All,

I just sold my 2018 Africa Twin Adventure Sports and I am currently looking at a new leftover 2019 Tracer 900 GT.

Dealer is offering me a price of $13,600 OTD which includes all fees and tax.

First off is that a decent price and 2nd is there any updates to the 2020 model I should be aware of?

    Thanks,

I bought my 2019 tracer 900 GT in Nov 2018 for 14000 out the door

  4. 5'5" , 28" inseam.  I use the foot pegs. Not bad one you get used to it. I can barely tippy toe when I stop.

I refuse to lower it 😛🥰. I often have a 175 lb. Passenger too. Never have any issues.

I do have to stretch those hips once in a while though.  Getting my legs over those side cases feel like a gymnastics routine sometimes.

Today was my second ride with a Denali Sound Bomb installed on my bike. (I'll have to do a post on the install because it worked out pretty slick. The pump is mounted to the under side of the metal bracket with the seat lock.) Anyway, I was plugging along a really nice country road and out in front of me about 40 or 50 yards, a woman started to pull out of her driveway. She just flat didn't see me. I blasted my horn, she slammed on her brakes and stopped and I was able to go around her. It wasn't that close a call but if she'd pulled out all the way and crossed into the oncoming lane like so many do, I wouldn't have had much place to go. It definitely got my heart racing though.

I hate to resurrect a dead post but I just bought one and i'm racking my brain trying to figure out where to mount the 2 halves. I've seen a few videos but now realizing most of the videos have more 'empty space' to mount things than my tracer does.

I am only a week into owning the Tracer, but I;ve noticed that 1->2 shifts are better if I do them traditionally with the clutch, then after that I can use QS.  The 1 to 2 otherwise is pretty violent and I dont like that kind of shock to the driveline.   Other than that its a nice-to-have feature that when it works well, its super fun.

It's not that violent if your going 45-50 mph in first gear. Lol.

    That being said don't

Can you go over the speed bumps at an angle instead of straight on?

Not where i need it most of course. I can actually avoid all of the speedbumps in the neighborhood except the one at the gate entrance. Of course it's single lane and I actually have to straddle the speedbump to be next to the reciever box to be in range of the key fob.

I don't think your rear preload is useful in this regard. You need to adjust your front forks. They are bottoming out causing you to hit (and not the rear suspension). i.e. front wheel goes over the bump and it bottoms out before the rear wheel touches the speed bump.

.......unless you are riding in reverse ;)

Thank's Buggie, I'll bump up the front preload.

I'm looking for a longer range key fob also. If I can find one thats longer range it's possible to drive past it by going the into the exit gate lane and stopping at the u-turn spot but currently my fob won't reach the antenna from there.

  8. I have a 2019 Tracer 900 GT.

On certain speedbumps in my neighborhood my frame/exhaust bottoms hits the speedbump pretty hard whenever I have a passenger. Pretty scary (especially with a passenger and I'm imagining it isn't doing my bike any favors). My rear preset (Knob) is set to max.

I drop off my son daily (I have found ways to avoid speed bumps leaving but coming in there are 2 speedbumps I can't avoid) but other than that I would say I am on the bike solo 95% of the time.

    What do you guys suggest?

Damn, I was at that website the other day and couldn't get the website to work. I finally found a work-around and got it in my cart.

£90 for the windshield + £67 for shipping to the US. :(

It really sucks because I was in the UK looking for a windscreen a few months ago on the internet and decided to buy it when I got back to the US. Had I known I would have such a hard time getting it I would have bought it somewhere while I was there and carried it on the flight back!

Hang in there.  It is worth it.  I have tried the VStream Sport Touring and the VStream Touring and the MRA Vario Touring and I think the MRA is the best of the bunch.  It doesn't provide quite as much coverage as the VStream Touring, but it is smoother and quieter than either one.

    Rob

Thanks for the heads up- the VStream was my second choice!

Got the MRA  vario touring screen and I have to say I am extremely pleased with it.

I was running the MRA short sport one which is also good for the last 4500 miles but This vario touring screen seems to be very effective, more protection than the sport but still in clean smooth air. Hard to quantify how much difference the vario bit makes but the screen is a massive improvement on the Yamaha screen.

I did try the big Yamaha touring screen but it’s a bit of a barn door and spoils the look of the bike.

How long did it take for you to get yours? I ordered a MRA Vario Touring from a site I'll just call TT on 6 June and am still waiting. I've been extremely patient, only because I'm pretty set on it (I did lots of homework before buying it) but I'm losing patience. It's almost been 3 months and they are seemingly unable to give updates.

Images of the 2020?  Sorry to divert the thread.

    @Bimbim18 :

I've seen pics of the 2020 tracer. I'm not as fond of it vs the 2019, but have not yet seen what improvements over the '19 there are so not sure to expect.

Ditto, I don't like the look of the 2020, but am interested in the changes coming. I'd change my '19 for a '20 though if there was a driveshaft option lol

  13. FWIW, $5200, I think even KBB is lowballing a bit. I got my 2019 Tracer 900 GT for 14.5 OTD (Homestead, FL) back in November (After a $500 discount). After watching many tutorials and videos I feel that was a fair price as bike dealerships don't have near the same markup as car dealerships (they seem to focus more on community, services and repeat sales)

I think you may be better selling your bike either soon (while it's still 'riding season), or next April ( after people start getting their tax returns and riding season begins again, and after the 2020 Tracer is released, leading to 'lefteover' 2019s being discounted.... although its eerie so little has been said the 2020 U.S. version Tracers) I'll be honest If I didn't have it already I would definitely get the 2019 next season, the improvements they made on the 2019 GT are outstanding compared to previous years, especially the GT versions. I've seen pics of the 2020 tracer. I'm not as fond of it vs the 2019, but have not yet seen what improvements over the '19 there are so not sure to expect.

edit: The GT is definitely worth the extra price. I just wish there were more color options......

  14. Great testing, Lots of detail.

I personally prefer earplugs with sound filters that filter out highs and lows. When it comes to hearing protection there are so many variables to take into consideration, and one thing many forget is that 1 db is more of an exponential growth as opposed to a linear growth. For the few db lower protection in the mids and much higher protection in low (ie wind and engine noises) and high frequencies (mostly whistling and turbulance) it just seems more practical than one that blocks (or muffles) all frequencies as in the midrange I can still hear even the sound of the tires of car around me, have conversation with people, and listen to my radio.

There is also a phenomenon where after exposed noise (or blockage of) your ears acclimatize and adjust to make you hear noises easier, especially if all ranges are dampened.

Try out some of the attenuating noise filters like eargasms, no-noise, or alpine MotoSafe noise filters. I use them any time I am going over 45 mph more than 5 mins or ANY time I hit the intersate. and yes I hear my music great even with them in (Cardo Packtalk)

10 years Industrial Hygiene (including conducting lots of noise dosimetry surveys and testing) in the US Army.

a nice read if you have the patience to read it. It seems most of the data was collected for other reasons but the background and results of the baseline data are still interesting to read as a biker (noise effects us all):

edit: NRR are not a good way to measure effectiveness. It's like vehicle manufacturers saying something has 500 hp but leaves out the disclaimer that the 500 hp only happens in a 200 rpm range and the rest of the range is unusable. all earplugs filter different amount of frequencies at different volumes. but at the end of the day, it comes down to try out a bunch and use what works for you :)

  15. When I moved for a new job after 4 months of paperwork BS just to move in I was reading the fineprint and they had a 'No motorcycle clause' When I explained it was a dealbreaker and let them know if they dont allow my daily form of transportation (since I don't own a car) then we would back out immediately and demand all deposits returned for various reasons they changed their tune. I think they should have a no @**hole cagers clause instead.

  16. I will be skinning my lids soon (to cover a nasty gouge/scrape I did when I first got the bike in November). But recently I have noticed the main body of my GT Paniers are fading pretty bad (The main body, not the lids) . I am guessing it is the UV rays from the sun possibly? The bike isn't even a year old but its starting to look less matte black and very matte grey. Is there something I should be doing to prevent this fading? It's starting to look pretty bad. Not something I expected from a bike less than a year old.
