  1. After trying to get the comfort seat from Canada with no luck, I ordered one off eBay coming from England. 
    Just silly that Yamaha USA doesn’t sell them especially since the dealer I worked at for 15 years still gives me a discount. 
    If I don’t like it I’ll list it here for sale.

  2. Others will dissuade you from lowering your bike and that’s fine, as for me I’ve lowered both my FZ1s, my FJR13, and now my Tracer 9. Do both the front & rear, get the adjustable kickstand and be more confident on your bike. In my experience your cornering & bottom clearance (carefully slow over speed bumps) is reduced; FZ1s were fine, FJR scraped some parts and now the center stand foot on my Tracer. Trimming the rubber stopper fixed that. Or slow down🤣!

  3. I also would appreciate a little bit more sound, given my road racing background. There’s a nice reasonably priced Akro system with cat on eBay that I contacted the seller about. He said he ships to the US often however being that I’m in Kalifornia and any aftermarket exhaust is not able to be shipped to my state I’m hesitant to order. Plus the possible unknown duty fees…I should ask if he’ll ship to Kali.

  4. When I did my Extenda I opted to unclip the clamps and pull the hoses off. Since the hoses hug the fender so close it’s tough to get underneath the fender to release the clamp unless the front wheel is off. 
    Once finished the center clamp no longer locks well into the fender, the clamps are “new design”, seem disposable to me (15-yr Yamaha Tech decades ago). 
     

    For many of my recent bikes I’ve successfully installed the front Extendas using only black ABS pipe cement & spring clamps till dry, don’t care for drilling holes & using the included push rivets. 
    Front Extenda is solid as in the past however the rear failed to adhere since it is a different material. Had to drill & pin it, with the double sided mounting pads.

    Yes, the boom box cat/muff bottomed over harsh speed humps (which was worse stock), up my driveway gutter, and going up the ramp of my Handy Lift. So that’s when I started adjusting it back higher from where Soupy’s had it set.

    I haven’t had a chance to test cornering clearance yet, need to go for a spirited ride. I feel the pegs won’t touch down on sane street rides however track days are another story😉!

    You solved your issue congrats, I thought I’d share my experience with a Soupy’s lowering link.

     I also got a failed “SUS CAL” result when I tried the calibration after installing the link as delivered at 150 mm eye-to-eye length (stock is 146 mm). Bike was waay too low, great for flat-footing my 30” inseam however the big boom box exhaust underneath would bottom out, even going up my driveway gutter along with my Handy bike lift. And the side & centerstands were almost useless (no surprise, not my first rodeo with lowering bikes).

    In the progress of adjusting the Soupy’s link a bit shorter (for higher ride-height) I thought I’d dig into this failed calibration crap. I discovered with the service manual’s help that when I installed the link I FAILED to notice the correct orientation of the angular position sensor arm, I had it 180 degrees out. Corrected that and SUSCAL is a success!

    It took a couple of adjustments with the link to get the compromise correct between ride height, stand usage, comfy foot touching, & ground clearance. Ended up with 147 mm, amazing how much ride height changes with just 1 mm of link length. Unfortunately the link needs to come off the bike to adjust & measure it properly. Not easy like the Soupy’s I put on my FJR1300!

    I did TB syncs on my FJ-09 every 7-8000 miles or so, but I'm not really keen on having to delve into the guts of my new bike yet.

    FWIW, with my FJ-09 the first one needed minor adjustment.  Every time after that I still touched them a little, but it was because I had already torn apart half the bike just to check them; they realistically didn't need any adjustment.

    More out of curiosity (I was a Yamaha Tech-many years ago) I checked my ‘21 Tracer 9 TB sync at 600 miles. Most work is taking all the plastic & fuel tank off for the first time. I found that it was within spec but tightened it up while I was in there.

    Didn’t really need to be done oh well, now I know how to do it.

  8. Ok…here’s my opinion. Coming from a roadracing background with years of nice sounding modified exhausts I must admit the stock Tracer 9 sounds pretty good - on the pipe. What bothers me is how low it sits. With my lowering link and fork tubes raised (30” inseam🙄) the muffler/cat drags over all speed bumps and even pulling up my driveway gutter, and onto my Handy lift. 
    Hoping that an aftermarket pipe would have more clearance and personally I would bond with a little more sound (like Moto2 Triumph engines😆).

  9. So I had my appointment for the throttle tube recall inspection today. I did disassemble the throttle last night to check for myself if the tube was cracked. No crashes or lift ups on the tube so all was good. Naturally the dealer inspected it, all good so he replaced the bar end weight with the new improved one with the retaining flange on it. Hopefully no more recalls🤨!

    Go off throttle above 3k RPM and let the bike engine brake below 3k RPM, do you also get a small "jerk" in the drivetrain, almost as if engine braking cuts off then cuts in again? 
    Never had this kind of issue with any bike owned. Its just not a good feeling, not a big problem per say. 

    I have felt what you’re experiencing with my ‘21 9 GT, and I believe both before the reflash & after.
    Feels to me like modern electronics/fuel injection/engine braking blah blah…however I’ve been wrong before. 😉

    My bike also fails the calibration test after I installed a Soupy’s adjustable lowering link myself (former Yamaha Tech of 15 years).
    Removing the link and going back to stock is not an option for my 30” inseam & 53+ years of riding (meaning I’m old😆), just wasn’t comfortable with the original height of the bike. Accordingly I raised the forks in the clamps 5 mm. 
    I did the cali test a few times, on the centerstand, and gave up, just riding it. 
    Even with it failed it is still much more supple than my ‘85 RZ500😁!

  13. Good results at the dealer today, got me right in at 0900 and was done with the reflash in about 30 minutes. They ordered the upgraded bar end weight and will call me for an appointment when it arrives. I thought they would also inspect the throttle tube today then proceed accordingly but…I’m not the Service Manager anymore lol.

    Test ride home was uneventful, bike seemed the same, I made sure to use the quickshifter but it was only a 5 mile ride. Time will tell…the mechanic who did the reflash asked how I liked the electronic suspension. I said I wished it had more settings…

  14. I went to my dealer today with both recall letters. As I used to work for this store as a Tech many many years ago (and Service Manger for a time) I went to the boss and he looked my stuff up. Called over to Service and set me up for a reflash at 0900 tomorrow😳. Throttle tube will be inspected and if not cracked (I don’t feel it is but haven’t checked) they’ll order the new improved bar end weight with a flange on it to prevent lateral stress on the tube.
