I have a 2015 model and just picked up GT bags in the Gloss Black at 1/3rd price of new. Problem for me is my bike doesn't have a spec of gloss black on it. My plan is to give PlastiDip a whirl to put them to a similar Flat Black found on the "City Bags" that they sold for my particular MY. Also wouldn't fear knocks/bumps that way. 🤷

Thanks Wanderer - that's exactly the kind of 1st hand know-how on this topic I was looking for. That matches with my research as well. The bags appear to be identical besides gloss vs matte black paint, and that makes sense given the cross compatibility with the FJR that it's a standard design. The mounting bracket has different part numbers for FJ vs Tracer and you've likely provided the answer why - Different passenger foot peg designs. I pulled the trigger on the GT Bags and mounting brackets from another member here and they're enroute to me now. When they get here I'll post further details for the record for the forum. Further for the record and FYI David S - The FJ-09 definitely does come as stock with mounting positions for Hard Bags, but you'd be forgiven for not recognizing that as they do appear to be a tacked on after thought as far as design is concerned, whereas on the Tracer GT models they actually bothered to style the tail section.

Anyone know for sure what the compatibility is for Tracer 900 GT hardbags for mounting on an older FJ-09? Just bought a new-to-me FJ-09, and I have a line on some hardbags/panniers for my '15 model coming off of a' 19 GT. I originally thought this to be a no-brainer, as the appearance of the bags to the accessory City Bags was identical, and I assumed it was the same bag with a painted lid. Now I'm not so sure, and I have scoured the Internet and this Forum with no concrete success. Yamaha Website lists different part numbers for the mounting/stabilization brackets for FJ-09 vs Tracer GT and doesn't list a '15 model under "fitment" for the Tracer GT parts, but we all know sometimes these things mount up anyway or with slight modification. Even if I can run the newer bag but need to purchase the older P/N mounting bracket etc? I figure this is good established info for the site for future searches as well. Anybody try this? Thoughts?
