  1. Doubt it if it’s chain oil. Mine also has an odour when first parked which I assumed was more to do with the exhaust then anything else. The emission controls they put in these exhausts today probably get pretty hot and emit the smell even after parked. At least that’s what I believe....

Fender extender R&G received and installed.  The fit is ok.  Not perfect.  But it is sturdy and does not move.  The plastic connectors seem to be doing the job.  I have not ridden the bike yet however, so no comment if it rattles or not.

To install, you have to drill holes (9/64") in the fender and fender extender, and snap small connectors that come with the extender.  Since I found it inconvenient to do under the bike, I removed the fender.  It was much easier to drill it this way.

How was it "not a perfect fit"? Can you share a photo with more detail about what your talking about? Is there another option for the install other then drilling holes in the fender?

thx in advance from your neighbor in Laval :)

I renewed my registration today, $78 for two years, which means I'm coming up on six years of FJ-09 ownership. I know this may seem cheap to some of you, but it wasn't all that long ago it was just $12 for two years! If only my salary had increased at that pace during the last 20 years.

Here in Quebec our registration is yearly. Our registration costs are classified according to the bike "style" you ride. Sport, standard and 400cc or less. The rates include a "no-fault insurance" element that covers you personally (medical, i.e. disability etc) even if your the responsible driver in an accident. The rates even for the 400cc bikes are astronomical compared to most places I know. To register my GT yearly its a whooping $680. This doesn't cover your actual bike insurance. I often think they are just trying to get motorcycles off the road here. Gixers and R1's cost north of $1,500 to register each year

I added a new tank bag. I've been using an Enduristan 4S bag, which is waterproof, but the waterproof zipper is a royal PITA. The Mosko Hood bag is a little smaller, but so easy to open and close. I like that it is not black (why do so many motorcycle things come only in black?!). I really want to wrap my bike to get rid of the grey. I don't understand why so many people think clear-coated primer grey is so attractive...

I have the same colour...IMO it wouldn’t have been my first choice either but since getting the bike I find it growing on me. There’s a possibility I’ll try getting it wrapped down the road but I’m in no rush.

I do.  From Ontario, this feb.   no extra fees for me but I got the pillion for the tracer and the pillion seat for a Kawasaki.  After a couple emails and a phone call they agreed it was a screw up and said they were out of stock so I should return for a refund.  Haven’t seen the money yet, hoping it shows up in next couple weeks.

That sucks! keep us posted how it turns out. I'm thinking of going for it in the next month. Hopefully they will have stock by then....

  6. I'm surprised to hear a dent could cause this pulsating. They way people play (i.e. shortening their mufflers, putting/taking out the db inserts play with a motors back pressure) with their exhaust these days would cause horror scenarios if that was the case....of course if the dent is huge that might be different...

I also have the Chinese knock-offs........

Would you recommend these knock-offs considering the price savings?

I also have the Chinese knock-offs I bought in early 2017 but other than a little slop between the bolt and integral stop (I shim with some aluminum), it's worked as expected.  I think there are at least 2 or 3 outfits knocking off these things, maybe some better than others.  Mine does not have an open end on the adjuster hex but I'll have to check if it's cross-pinned (and ensure it stays put).  The bottom nuts that employs the ball detents does not stick out as far as some I've seen.

I think the high torque on the axle nut is to being the swing arm sides into contact with the wheel spacers.  I too do not use spec #', lowered it to 85 but clean threads every time with a bit of moly grease.  Maybe I'll try 80 or even 75...
